It’s so unfortunate how people overlook Patrick Ewing today. He finished an MVP voting top 5 6 times in his career. The MVP voting is a better system to determine who were the top five players that season and not the whole NBA team that’s position base. This is a fact Ewing is the most underrated player on both sides of the court in nba history!

Patrick was dominant that game. He outplayed Jordan and that's a rarity. 😮 He attacked their interior defense and didn't settle for long perimeter shots.👌I remember Chamberlain saying Ewing bails out the defense constantly settling for jumpers. If Patrick played like this more often against the Bulls, they would've had more success.👍 Imagine that?!😏

This is exactly why some feel the championship Rockets team would've been a huge problem for the Bulls. The Knicks didn't have the shooters or athleticism they did and were a pretty tough matchup, imagine the Rockets who were a more versatile version of the Knicks.

We all know how historically great Michael Jordan is. I heard from some players around the league. There was only one player who put a level of trepidation, if not a sense of doubt and concern in him. That one player was Hakeem Olajuwon. I'll add this, had Jordan not retired the first time, the Bulls would've won 4 straight titles. They would've beaten Houston in the 94 Finals. However, the Rockets in 95, with the addition of Clyde Drexler would've dethroned the Bulls. That would happen due to the inability to guard Hakeem and all the perimeter shooting that they had. It would've been a pick your poison kind of scenario. That's how good the Rockets were in 1995.👍

The Brilliance of MJ still astounds me! On DEFENSE, MJ is all over Greg Anthony and John Starks who are attacking all night. That must be exhausting even if he is peak prime age. On OFFENSE, Anthony, Starks are as aggressive and as physical as it can ever get without going into beat down territory of Bad Boys, the patience in MJs offensive game and decision making is 2nd to none. MJs supreme offensive skillset created insane angles for him and not rushing the moves is eclipcing and challenging NYKs insane physical and extremely quick defense led by young guns on perimeter anthony, starks etc. Notice, how Pippen in again no where to be found. When defense got crazy physical, just like kobe and lebron, pippen often got intimidated and fell thru. Its the likes of Magic, Bird and MJ that surivived and had the counter punch be it Phillys defense on Magic and Bird or Bad Boys defense on Magic and Bird amd MJ or NYK and bad boys defense on MJ.

Looking back despite the Pacers going up 12 - 0 against the Bulls to start the game, there was no concern about the Pacers beating the Bulls in that 1998 ECF. The only thing I will say which is true, only the 1992 NY Knicks, 1998 Indiana Pacers & the 1998 Utah Jazz were the only teams that seriously challenged the Chicago Bulls during their back-to-back three-peats. I think game 5 of the 1993 ECF was the most intense game I've ever watched in the 1990's playoffs. I watched that game in a sports bar and Bulls & Knicks fans were on edge throughout that entire game.

It's crazy how we overlook and label Ewing as failure because of no championship. Many people talk about him like he was a complete bust like a Kwame Brown or Greg Oden when he was the complete opposite. As an 11 time All-Star he literally had the entire package and everything that makes a great center/player. Scoring. Rebounding. Defense. Tough. Mean. Was able to bang downlow but also had a sweet touch from the mid range. Talk about underrated and underappreciated! As others have mentioned of course he didn't win an MVP award but from 90-94 he was the top center in the league and was always in the running as a top MVP candidate as he should've been. While every other superstar had decent help and a second scorer Ewing had himself. And while yes Jordan got the best of him it wasn't like it was completely lopsided and a total blowout. Many times it was the Knicks vs. Bulls in a decisive close game 7 so it wasn't a walk in the park for Jordan and the Bulls. Each and every one of those series was a dog fight. Championship or no championship Ewing deserves his flowers!
