Man..How great was it when Wfan was in there glory days and Every weekday at 1pm when Mike and Mike came on, it was just electric.I still miss it even 10 years later.
Francesca is basically a god to NY sports fans. You either love him or hate him, but either way you listen. i dont care for him BUT damn it is hard to turn off Mike Francesca's show!!

He is an idiot and a bufoon. And very provincial, he makes Stephen A Smith look neutral. The best thing about the WFAN over the last year is no Sports Dope!
I'm a Boston guy unfortunately Boston sports radio sucks kawk. Francesca is the best and even at 90 years old eats Michael kay show for lunch. I've missed him can't wait tell his return.
Russo's logic is indisputable...love how he put those three on the spot and flipped the script with pointed questions of his own...made them look silly and schooled them....like a skilled prosecutor...bet the Kay crew is feeling like a death row inmate on the eve of execution.
Kay is a great interviewer especially like center stage but not crazy about his radio show. La greca is very good. But yeah i listened to this cause of the Dog.
This was must listen radio. Rosenberg knocked this interview outta the park. And I love Russo. He's so much fun. Contemplating diet Coke mans return and the shafting of Carlin Bart and Maggie. I just heard on WFAN the new show will be Mike Francesa will be teaming up with Maggie Gray from 1pm to 7pm. The new show will be called Mike and Mag Dog.

The WFAN has to have Francesa on the air waves due to crazy high revenues from advertisers,Mike needed the WFAN's comfortable pay check and breezy management treatment towards him. It's a perfect marriage! Perfect.
Its all about money and ratings (which draws money). Francesa is money. To be honest, the CMB show is terrible. Joe & Evan should have gotten that afternoon drive spot.
Joe and Evan should have gotten that spot and they wouldn have gotten at least a year to get that train rolling. That being said, I am happy they didn't get the spot because Mike would have just did what he did anyway and Joe and Evan would have been out in a bad spot. I don't want to see that happen. Especially to Joe who has been number 1 in every spot he has occupied. Joe has been there close to 25 years now. He is an instiuttion at WFAN himself.
Unreal how everyone talks about giving MBS show on WFAN a chance. It’s not about whether they are good or not, it’s about seniority. I can give you 10 hosts starting with Benigno & Roberts that should have had that slot. I dare anyone to tell me what the credentials are of MBS that they deserve such a coveted slot!
Most people shared your point but in fairness, those were impossible shoes to fill which is why so many people passed it over. The only logical people that would have fill those shoes without WFAN missing a beeat is Joe and Evan but even they did not want it because they love their time slot.
bigbullbk Youre right and i get that. I do feel sorry for them because they were given the opportunity of a lifetime and couldn't pass it up. Anyone could have predicted the flop was coming, though. The CMB trio, to me at least, screams of ham handed corporate decision making with no regard for reality. Like their only reasoning for this show was "diversity!" This sort of rationale is likely why Mike decided to leave in the first place, knowing a new and faceless corporate overseer would make bad decisions like this and a nightmare to deal with for any long experienced broadcaster who values their creative freedom.
Kaye is a tad bit dishonest. Chris answered all of their questions. Then he asks them what they thought of the show and they say “oh I never heard it”. Your direct competition and never listened or checked some highlights to see what’s what???
I said it to others before Russo said it, and I'm sure a ton of others saw it too, but Scott's inability to talk about baseball and his terrible habit of taking anything baseball and turning it into a football analogy killed it for me. This inability lessened the in depth discussion about baseball and I couldn't help but feel the others might have stayed away just a bit from delving into subjects concerning baseball because they may have felt Scott couldn't "hang" with it - again, just my thoughts. Baseball will ALWAYS be KING in the city and having a voice who was obviously uncomfortable and let's admit it - Scott lacked a true knowledge of its intricacies and history with the Mets and Yankees turned a lot listeners who grew up on the FAN to ESPN because whether you like Kay or not, he and his crew know baseball. And if anyone on the Kay show reads this - you might keep me if you do this one little thing: Make taking calls from the fans the top priority. Enough with the entertainment, the side stories, the jokes, etc. That's the one element that Mike did well and will still do - it was all about the calls. He'll go a whole segment getting in 7 - 12 calls. Kay and his crew might get in 4 - the rest of the time in general is wasted with the BS side stories. Listeners could care less just as you might care less that I'm telling you what I think. Stick with the calls and you might just give Francessa a run for his money.
TheWheels777 Absolutely dreadful. Chris Carton started off bashing LT who despite his actions is still considered a God in NYC. I'm pretty sure that helped their ratings with half the city being Giants fans.
Carlin is pretty distasteful with the text to Russo and Francesca, but that's chris for you. End of the day, WFAN needed him back and it will be good for the greatest listening market in the world

His point was that Wfan management put together CMB so they could look progressive with a chick, a black guy, and a bald fat white guy together. Since CMB sucks now management is throwing the social experiment out and bringing back the Pope. Rosenberg never said anything about it being racist. He is saying that wfan management is clueless.
I always thought Joe and Evan should have gotten the afternoon drive. Both are very good. I also liked Maluses and Kim Jones when they would fill in on various spots. But I heard they turned down the drive.
Joe said point blank last week he wanted No part of the afternoon - He was very clear. I imagine once his contract is up, which I believe is within 3 years - he plans on retiring - At least from what he says I gather that. Outside of Joe and Evan, it disappointing to me the way just about how everyone has acted in this situation. I want to listen to them all talk about Sports - Not all this Drama with each other - which is getting embarrassing. Once Mike is back, and will have to address some things about all of this - I hope from that point on, it will be over - though when certain contracts are about to expire - It will no doubt come up again.
Boomer and Gio are terrible. You need a Carton type to keep it interesting instead of two wet towels. Joe and Evan I like and I think they do a solid job. CMB is the worst of the worst. The station needed Francesa back regardless of the circumstances.
the problem is that Carton led the show, and Boomer supported it. Now the dynamic is that Boomer leads, and Gio supports, but that doesnt work, and their ratings speak to that. for the winter they performed a 4.8ish which right before carton resigned, was a 7.0 aka #1
Wonder what's the real reason he's coming back? A farewell retirement then a few months later a sudden return? Bored? He even took a pay cut!! Don't get it!!
Not that the NHL is Francesa's passion (but he does try during the playoffs). However, on NHL trade deadline day, his replacements on WFAN spent about three minutes the entire afternoon discussing the Rangers dismantling of their perennial playoff team. And during those three minutes they managed to call Ryan McDonagh Sean McDonough and declare that the Rangers should cut Lundqvist. I'm being a little arch here, but did FAN bring back Francesa to solidify their NHL coverage?
I am new to this show the Michael Kay Show.........in South Jersey, i don't get it locally and my car no longer has satellite. But is this the show up against Mike's replacement show, with Bart Maggie and Scott? and isn't that PETER Rosenberg????? I love him! He does work for WWE - he's great!

I love pete and thinks he brings something great to this show, but as someone below mentioned, him bringing racial comments into this interview made him look like an idiot. I'm sure most of you already think he is an idiot so relax. Chris was fantastic in this interview.
bottom line is there was no reason for francesa to leave the FAN and no one knows why he did it. he certainly let his ego get the better of him..cause there was no way anyone else was going to pay him 5 million a year to do a local show....and there isnt a better station to go to anyways! russo is being really honest here..but this guy claiming it is a bad move long term..is TOTALLY WRONG..there are only a few places to go...and NO ONE will remember this move when offered a job....i agree the diversity is good...but the people were never going to support CMB...because half the audience would not have been lost if that were true....FRANCESA was brought back...because he is the ONLY GUY that can bring back the cash..(ads)..to the station...and that IS ALL that counts in todays world.
Carlin and co. Is weaker than Michael Kay. That says a lot since Kay’s show is poor. The Pope will regain his well deserved spot at the top. Plain and simple, rest of the stuff surrounded this is soap opera crap.
Kay is great. He'd be great alone - good with Don - but need to lose any third guy. Peter can hold his own on the weekend shows but the three of them do not work as a team. Three voices a la Carlin et al. does not work.
He thought it was Craig Carton that got fired from WFAN morning show that is currently facing charges of securities fraud and wire fraud for allegedly running a concert ticket Ponzi scheme.
Mike's act is tired. He's the old "get off my lawn" guy on the radio. Always grumpy, doesn't welcome any opinions that oppose his own, Mr. Conservative. Now he's back because he wasn't really missed and was quickly becoming irrelevant, so he comes back. He looks really petty, imo.
I used to call all of these clowns in the early 2000's.....Carlin was the phone screener for mike and the mad dog...he used to hang up on me and not put me thru .....Mike and mad dog used to make little jokes about Kay...like he was of no consequence....Kay had a vendetta ripping on both of them for years...now he and russo are pals....what a joke....one things for sure....I'm glad Francessa is back....carlin and the other two are an abomination...3 people on a talk show sucks...kay...lose the peter guy...are you kidding me....why...why...why...????? Russo telling them 3 people on a show is no good....not just the carlin show..haha
