BDSP have one advantage, none of the other games have: Being developed in the unity engine. Which at first was horrible, but it has the huge advantage that it's easier to mod than any other game in the series so far. People have done some insane stuff for this game already.
I don’t think anyone has ever acknowledged with these memes just how unhealthy it must be to drink syrup as is. Like that is pure sugar, you are drinking pure sugar.
Same. Pokemania was a wonderful thing to live through. Lots of kiddos don't respect the origins of their own favorite franchise in the comments it literally confuses me.
Looking back at it, it was a crazy time - the entire schoolyard was playing Red & Blue, trading and collecting the cards and stickers, talking about yesterdays episode of the show...Pokemon was everything back then. Awesome childhood memories!
@@mr.hatchet3682 i feel like your nostalgia is blinding you a bit. gen 1 is only considered good because it was the 1st generation. there are loads of issues and flaws with it, same with gen 2. i wouldn't pass off someone not liking the first 2 generations as just them having started with newer games
Personally I don’t think that Gen 1 is bad… it’s just fundamentally worse. Every revision that was after Gen 1 was built off of the groundwork that it laid out, but was improved or tweaked in ways that just made the games better. That doesn’t make it bad, just not as good
I loved them at the time, I loved every generation of Pokemon except Black and White. (Black and White were fine, but I didn't love them.) But I have to admit, Gen 1 aged horribly. Half the game didn't work the way it should. There's no point to ever play them these days since there are far superior remakes available.
i know we gotta respect the classics and i do, without them we wouldnt have the games we do now, but damn have you tried playing red or blue nowdays, it just feels so basic its pretty boring imo
I replayed all the pokemon games a few years ago (some of them for the first time not having those rose tinted glasses) and if we're being completely honest Gen 1 did not age very well. It has it's charm sure but it was extremely frustrating to me.
Gen 8 is like having a crappy day at your usually pretty decent job, followed by getting into a car crash, and finally ending up having a nice dinner with your family.
I'd say it's more like having a regular run of the mill day with a few annoyances, then when driving home you get into a car crash but once you get home there is a surprise party for you.
Legends was honestly a good thing to have happened. Game freak got to shake up the formula in a new way, they got to get some new ideas for the main mechanics, everyone absolutely loved the new direction as well. It was just a good thing to have happened for the series all around
I'm someone who's been with the Pokemon franchise around 2 decades ago from Gen 3, and yeah I honestly loved Gen 7. The feel of the games was just so relaxing and fun (love me some good Hawaiian/Polynesian vibes), the new mons were cool and some of my personal favorites came from Alola, the story wasn't that bad it was quite enjoyable imo, and my lord the available mon lineup which was only improved upon in USUM was great. So many mons to choose from to have many potential teams by the end. Plus I honestly liked the challenge both games had, especially USUM, there were some genuinely tough challenges that felt great to get past in them. I could do with a cutscene skip for future playthroughs, that bogs the game down a bit, but otherwise great games.
I've been playing gen 1 on my phone at work on an emulator. Tbh they're still awesome games, just from a different and simpler time period. The beginning of the game is by far the most fun and is such a great example of Rpg game design.
@@CronicasDeGisthia I don't know if blinded by nostalgia is accurate. I was like 12 when the original red and blue came out. and there wasn't much like it at the time, it was really cool. Sure it doesn't hold up well today but at the time it was amazing and it's the reason there's so many generations after it, have to atleast give it credit where it is due.
@@Ghost-Mom I agree with you, the first generation of Pokémon were super important and great at the time, however that does not mean, at all, that I should LIKE the games. I can, by all means, understand the importance of something without actually liking that something.
2:35 I was honestly expecting BDSP to get the "This isn’t peach syrup!" line, due to how many people were begging for gen 4 remakes only to be disappointed by the low quality of the game.
As a diehard Sinnoh fan, I have to agree. BDSP equals an insult to the region as a whole. It's like giving a tea lover a cup of piss and still expect them to like it.
It was definitely a red flag when Game Freak gave the DP remakes to a smaller studio. Yeah, they were working on legends, but I think it would have been ideal if Game Freak proper worked on it, and delayed Arceus to the end of this year, and push back Scarlett and Violet to next year. We'd have to wait longer for Arceus but it still would have been a good product
Legends Arceus has actually stolen bits from concept art from brilliant and shining. And then Gamefreak limited brilliant and shining until it was the same game but with exp. Share.
I agree with a lot of these. I guess I have a bit of bias towards the first two gens but I see a lot of the problems with the screwed up level curve in gen 2. (I love hgss but damn they did not fix the level curve and grinding is a bitch) Gen 1 is a lot of fun if you know how to abuse the broken stuff and just blitz through the game.
@Plain Water I did that by accident in Silver because the pokemon choices were awful and ended up beating the game with just 3 because nothing was worth catching or evolving to me
I actually prefer the level curve in the older Pokemon games. I don't like how easy they are now. Beating gym leaders and elite 4 on the first try is just not satisfying to me. I want to feel like I've earned it and proved myself through hard work and ingenuity.
Not liking Gen 1 and calling Gen 2 just “all right” is unthinkable to me. They laid the foundations for the entire series. The later gens had far less innovations and mostly relied on game specific gimmicks. That being said, Pokémon Black and White were the high note of the series and I don’t think we’ve gotten a better game after those ones.
I know these games established the formula but playing them nowadays the games just feel dated and slow given all the features added to the later games.
I don't see where you're coming from on that. The newer games add so much more to do than just catching Pokemon. Seriously, the first gen and maybe the second gen haven't really aged all that well considering how big and vast the content of the newer titles are.
There's really no reason to play Gen 1/2 in it's original release, barring nostalgia, and hasn't been for almost 18 years in Gen 1's case, and 13 in Gen 2's case. The remakes of Gen 1/2 outright replace the originals.
I can't tell if the reaction for the ultra games was good or bad. I personally adore the games and consider them my favorite main line game while Legends sits at the top overall
These are my people. I find it utterly annoying that they'd bring back Ruby & Sapphire or Diamond & Pearl but forget to include the games that were basically the upgraded versions. If anything they should've just released Emerald & Platinum instead of the other 4 but I get it. Money is the priority
"MoNeY iS tHe PrIoRiTy" why does everyone keep saying this like it's anthing valuable. Like wow, it's a business, they are working for money 😃 who would have thought??? But seriously, now, is FRLG a yellow remake? No. Is the reason for that money? No, the reason is they wanted red and green remakes. I really can't take the "waah I hate money" comments mature at all
The difference between ORAS and BDSP is that ORAS is a completely new game while build on top of the original While BDSP has little to no innovation what so ever, making Platinum even better
Yeah you can tell that, usually you don't mock your first game. That's great tho, it leaves a game to replay once in a while even if your older and not into Pokémon anymore.
Comments like this makes me cherish the disbelief on people's faces when I say that my very first Pokemon game, and perhaps even my first non PC game was Pokemon Blue despite considering gen 1 to be one of the top three or four weakest gens AND despite the fact that my favourite games in the franchise are the Black and White games. Granted, if I didn't grow up on gen 1, my criticisms most likely would be even more scathing.
@@princeapoopoo5787 I mean, I have always held Gen 2 to be the best of the “classic” generations (1-3), but I started with Gen 1. Gen 1 is pretty flawed but I wouldn’t call them “bad” games. They just pale in comparison to what came after, which is only natural for a video game series. The DS era I consider BW/BW2 to easily be the best, and that they are the best overall, with the GS remakes placed right behind them. DP are good, with Platinum being an objective improvement in all regards on them. The 3DS era I consider the RS remakes to be top, tied with SM. XY was underwhelming, especially coming after BW2. I haven’t played US/UM so I can’t really judge those ones. I have yet to play any of the Switch era games, but from what I’ve seen SS are generally regarded as being underwhelming, the Let’s Go! Games are fine if you want a more modern Gen 1 experience, and Gen 4 remakes are seemingly pointless, and Arceus actually seems like the Pokémon game everyone has always wanted.
Here are some you forgot: Green - I don't like it very much... SwSh Expansion Pass - Great, really great. ScVi - She was delighted, I was delighted, the inspector was delighted.
I will say that black and white is my favorite in the series. It has its…ups and downs? But it wasn’t bad to make the game unplayable, and the story could use a little tweaking but it was still one of my favorites none the less. Many may agree, others will disagree, but that’s how I think. I didn’t get to play the sequel games tho
Platinum - HG/SS - Black/White -B2/W2 was such an incredible run of pokemon games. I started with Gen 1 and its a classic but Gens 4-5 were really peak pokemon for me.
Glad to see not everyone has forgotten about Platinum. I almost never hear anybody talk about it, and even fewer enjoy it. That and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
I agree with most of this. The more time I spend online the more I realise that I'm not the only one who thinks Sun/Moon was great. There's a cult following I think.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet based on the trailers: “And then they continued with the sweet goodness once again.” (I know Micheal probably doesn’t say that)
my only disagreement with this is that fact that the lets go games were good. To me the lets go games were boring to play just cuz its kanto for the 3rd time and personally believe the lets go games should be lower than SWSH and BDSP. The only thing I'll give credit to Lets go is the fact that (if I'm correct) it is the first in the series to have shiny mons be able to appear in the overworld before you enter a battle with it.
I agree, a bit of a shame about sun and moon ultra, it wasn’t worth making literally the exact same game. I prefer ultra if you haven’t gotten moon and sun yet, but if you already have, it’s not worth it at all
This is actually pretty accurate bruv good job. I would really like to see another vid with the non main line games like pokemon rangers, mystery dungeons and even the game cube ones!
Gen 1 and 2 are okay, but they’re technical nightmares for anyone going into the series from the later, more refined games. They’re better for new players going into the series seeing how the series evolved from the beginning and marvelling at the quality of life improvements later games provide, but never when going back the way.
Gen 1 was more than just "okay". It was a masterpiece when it came out, unlike most of the later games in the series. And yeah, it didn't age well, but honestly the Pokemon series as a whole didn't. I only play it for nostalgia these days, and haven't bought a game since gen 4.
@@loganbaker8222 I've played some of them on other people's consoles and watched Let's Plays of all of them. But even if I hadn't it wouldn't matter, because they're exactly what you'd expect them to be if you've played gen 1 and 2. The only exception is Legends Arceus.
@@M4x_P0w3r And yet not one of the games after red/blue/yellow was near as popular among children. Weird, huh? It's not about how well it did it compared to the other games in the series, it's also about how good of a game it was in the context of its time.
You got extra points for loving Sun and Moon so much. Truly a masterpiece of a story. Flaws were present in the pacing and slight lack of worldbuilding through NPCs, but it was amazing.
I agree but not for BDSP, because it was (yes I'm not an OG fan but I'm a big fan) was my first pokemon game. And it introduced me perfectly to the format and battling style. I can never say it was bad, but I see why people think it's bad.
I'm still trying to understand the hate for BDSP. I've been wanting a pokemon game that felt like a pokemon game for YEARS. And I absolutely loved playing through BD. I was like this is exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be angry with it at all. Gen 5 were the last games that gave me that feel of enjoyment. Once they went full 3D open area like they did it just didn't feel the same
As a very casual Pokemon player, I think all of the mainstream games were nice. Sure, they throw in some weird/dumb mechanics in each new game, but at the end of the day, I'm playing Pokemon and that's all that really matters. After all, everyone talks their shit about each game but still ends up buying the newest release anyways.
Unless you were born before 2000, you are making yourself a hypocrite. If you were born before 2000, what business do you have on a meme video with Michael Rosen?
No, you can't. Liking first gens doesnt make you old / oldfag whereas not liking it doesnt make you a child. Is just opinion. If you get over nostalgia factor, Gen1 and 2 are mid.
I love the 3rd and 5th Pokémon Generations Generation I = MCMXCVI Generation II = MCMXCIX Generation III = MMII Generation IV = MMVI Generation V = MMX Generation VI = MMXIII Generation VII = MMXVI Generation VIII = MMXIX
Tfw Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were a full thing of peach syrup while Black & White 1 and 2 were just some crumbly bits of a cake. I mean, it doesn't really matter, but I just found that funny because within the Pokémon community, you'd think it would be the other way around.
