Sixty years ago today in 1961 {September 4th} "Michael" by The Highwaymen peaked at 1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and it spent seventeen weeks on the Top 100... "Michael" also reached #1 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart and on the United Kingdom's Single chart... From July of 1961 to July of 1962 the Wesleyan University quintet had five records on the Top 100, one made the Top 10, the above "Michael"... They had one Top 20 record, "Cotton Fields", which reached #13 {for 2 non-consecutive weeks} in February of 1962... Besides the two above records, their other three Top 100 records were "Gypsy Rover" {#42 in 1961}, "I'm On My Way" {#90 in 1962}, and "The Bird Man" {#54 in 1962}... Sadly, three original members have passed away; Chan Daniels at age 36 on August 2nd, 1975, Dave Fisher at 69 on May 7th, 2010, and Bob Burnett on December 7th, 2011 at the age of 71... The original song was ment to be sung at a funeral. It was supposed to be upbeat as the dead was going to Heaven. I guess the people who died at Normandy were going to Heaven.
Flipping incredible the bombing with that song not quite my taste as I love the song more it sounds more chilling and it makes us want to cry and relax as well as making people want to sleep
Yeah, and when WWII ended the British government and the American government made former POWs of the Japanese government sign forms not to talk about the treatment they endured as POWs.
Sadly, the video does not bring praise to "Hallelujah" in any way. In fact, WWII is a grim reminder that man has dominated man to his injury (nobody wins). We sorely need God's kingdom to come!
