Couldn't be happier for him. Such a likeable bloke. I loved how supportive his family were. Just incredible.

Doubles let van Gaerwen down . Both played 110% best match ever . Fair play to van Gaerwen good looser applauded Smith.

The interview at the end is absolutely class from both Michaels. That’s true sportsmanship. Bullyboy who says Van Gerwen is the best in the sport and Van Gerwen answering that Smith absolutely deserved this. I am looking forward to many more encounters of these two greats

I've loved MVG ever since he first came round on the scene and he has won his fair share of titles and the prize money that comes with it but Bully Boy absolutely deserved that. And MVG with his praise of Smith at the end and saying he doesn't give himself any justice is probably the best thing another Darts player could probably hear, recognition from someone who is as decorated as MVG after a world finals loss, absolute respect.

4:10 Has to be the greatest leg in darts history. At the world championships with a great crowd reaction too. Unbelievable!

Never really watched the Darts but I have this tournament. What a treat it has been!! THAT 9 dart leg was incredible to watch.

What's more iconic? Both players being on a nine darter in 1 leg and one scores it, or the commentator shouting "I CAN'T SPAKE"

Good job to the Sky Sports commentary team, in particular Wayne, John and Emma. Wayne's call on the 9-darter was outstanding and reminded me of John Gwynne's '17 perfect darts' call, which remains the best. I enjoy John Part's dry humour and respect his tremendous knowledge of the sport. Emma's closing remarks each night "it'd be silly not to come back and watch tomorrow" was also a highlight. And she looks good!

I have watched several finals but this one takes the cake, absolutely a superb iconic final with precision play.

You can tell MVG is hurting a lot and he'll take some time off but think if he plays like that over the whole tournament (100+ avg almost every game), he'll get it in 2024. Huge props to both players.

Oh my god, it just doesnt get any better than that. I have always been in awe of Michael Smiths throw and so disappointed for him when losing so many finals, well thats now changed, he has achieved what he has deserved and I hope he realises that in the darting world, he is now a Lionheart.

So happy for Michael Smith. I was one that never thought he'd do it, immensely talented but never seems to carry himself with a great deal of confidence, but I imagine winning this will change all that. Now he's got one it's hard to imagine him not winning more!

I was so pleased that Michael Smith won this match after his disappointment of last year and the reaction from his eldest son with the continuation of the word 'yes' was wonderful to see. Really well deserved win,two brilliant darts players trying their best. I must also add how gracious Michael van Gerwen was after the defeat,that was class!

MVG felt the pressure otherwise his doubles aren’t normally this dodgy. But who wouldn’t feel pressured in the final. Both played brilliant darts and that’s got to be the greatest game I have witnessed

A lot of people talk about the 9 darter and deservedly so, but that last leg, wow. If MvG breaks there then the game is back on throw. One leg away from being world champion, after going 9 darts without a treble when he went one leg away in the previous set. What does he do? Goes 6 into a 9, then goes Bull-T13 to leave D16 after 9. In terms of pressure moments in a world final that's up there with Barney's sudden death leg 180 in 2007 after Taylor hit one of his own, and Gary's big fish to go one away against Lewis in 2016. Michael Smith really went from the bottlejob of darts to world champion and world number 1. So many times in both the worlds and the grand slam he could've folded but he didn't. Cross was rallying in the grand slam, he held him off. 15-13 down to Cullen in a race to 16, comes back to win 16-15. Barney caught him at 10-10 in the semis, he pulled away again. Pressure on him against Aspinall, batters him 16-5. 3-1 down in the worlds to Schindler, wins 4-3. Struggling with his scoring and Bunting closing in the quarters, holds him off to win. Clemens giving as good as he's got in the semis, wins 4 straight sets to win. Goes 1-0 down against the darts to MvG, hits *that* 9 darter. 3-2 down in the same game, 4 straight sets won to put him on the brink. If that's not bottle I don't know what is

Smiths game is all about rhythm,he couldn't of hoped for a better appointment for his game than mvg ,.who is also a fast player , When the game of darts is played quick fire like these two play ,,I don't think there's a sport as exciting as this
