The naughty boy comes in early at 0.56! But the orchestra doesn't panic. I only know this because I've played it in the cellos, and it's meant to be in counterpoint/canon with the voice. But hey, it's a great performance.
Quel artiste! Quelle ligne vocale, quelle voix, quelle diction.
I just saw the baritenor promotional video, and I remember thinking that in the second song in this cycle, Speyers had been transformed into a baritone. He not only has an amazing range, but the variety of coloration he brings to this work is extraordinary. I can’t wait to get the baritenor recording.
I think he sings all the songs in the original key. The songs ate for different voices written. Usually singers sing them all high or low which means, some of them are transposed. Regine Crespin did sing them all in original key too. You need a really big range to be able to do this.
