yup but it takes guts and gumption on the part of Tonkin himself too, to respond to such coaching, no matter how brilliant it may be.

As impressive of a pitching coach Matt Blake has been, he still couldn't fix Dennis Santana. Caleb Ferguson and Victor Gonzalez...aka all former Dodgers...are on thin ice.

I wonder if he's crazy? Cuz you gotta be kinda crazy to be a relief pitcher. Imagine spending the majority of your career eating sunflower seeds and watching baseball, but when you have to play, it's ok go, high octane, fucking go, go right now, throw 15 perfect pitches, go go go. Now. No normal person can roll with that kind of stress ebb and flow.

Pitching is stress inducing shit period. All eyes are on you. I did both, starting and relief. Starting is honestly easier, mentally. At least the mess is your mess, you have a better gage of how to work out of it. As a reliever, it's often someone else's mess. You gotta just go, and figure out a way to put out the flames, or keep it close, or keep a lead, or keep it from getting worse...... You can't be rational. You gotta be crazy. You gotta not give a damn about any damn thing and just throw the baseball.
