@@ebonynerd She had an untreated and undiagnosed heart condition as rheumatic fever which was most probably gotten through a childhood illness she had while in her home country. I am so saddened!
Eric Fluellen I saw her at the days you could come and see what it's like etc. and she did a solo + she has played Coppelia and a willi (don't know the English name for the ghosts) in Giselle she has probably been in much more ballet peformances in the Royal Dutch Ballet, and she has been a part of the junior company, so we are lucky to have her..
Wow, to those people who are overly critical- She's only 14 here and is already strong, has great facility, and tremendous potential. You need strength & reliability in a company. She's getting fantastic training at JKO and will learn artistry, something that matures with time and is also learned by being around those who exemplify it. Having danced in ABT myself, I think she'll make it far in the ballet world if she chooses that path. Kudos to you, Michaela!
I remember as a little kid memorizing this entire dance and attempting to copy it. Michaela I am so sorry you were taken from this world so young, your memory will live on. 🖤🕊️
Watching this as I am reading her book Michaela DePrince Taking Flight. Here she had just recovered from an injured ankle 2 weeks ago and was doing this difficult dance La Esmeralda because of the staccato beat and using the tambourine. She is so relatable and fluid here. I can see why she was awarded the Youth Grand Prix the top award for her age division here at the 2009 Philadelphia YAGP. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I can see why she has become such a phenomenonal ballerina with the Dutch National Ballet.
Especially when we see in the original novel, Esmeralda was swapped out of her mother’s arm for a deformed Romani baby, Quasimodo. Living with the Romani, it was historically known that the caravans would exploit their women and children, and Esmeralda was no exception. Even so, Esmeralda’s love of freedom and her fire echoes so much in Michaela’s own life.
She survived a civil war and fought against all prejudices in the ballet world becoming a professional dancer. I am white, privileged and in a peaceful country. When I was 13 the best thing I could do was getting good grades at school.
I've been watch a lot of ballet videos, here on RU-vid, and Michaela DePrince is clearly the most graceful dancer that I've seen. None other comes close, And according to Brenda Li, Michaela is only about 15 years of age! Go, Michaela, Go!
Michaela sure has marvelous elevation. Her jumps and grand jetès are out of this world, and I LOVE her use of the tambourine. That's one classy dancer to say the least of it. You GO girl.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I LOVE MICHAELA DE PRINCE WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA DANCE JUST HER ,,SHE IS VERY STRONG ,STUNNING ,I FELL INLOVE WITH HER FIRST TIME IV WATCHED HER DANCING
i love her athletic body type! so inspiring. she truly is amazing. not all ballerinas need to look like toothpicks with legs as long as the tallest trees in the world ok
michaela is amazing she shows strength yet grace!!! But I notice that when she did her double pirouette she dropped her heel aothe rthan that she is wonderful ballerina.
Im not usually into ballet but i always say they are great performers because the things they do wow.. this girl right her just proved me right.. shes amazing and to me this is absolutely flawless and shes beautifully talented...
Wow! I read about this in her book and I also háve her book, but that I would look like this... it's incredible !!! While I was looking I felt a sort of butterflies in my stomach... I wish I could dance ( like her ) !
Michaela has been invited to join Het Nationale Ballet - The Dutch National Ballet. Right now she is in South Africa dancing Kitri and Queen of the Dryads in the South African Ballet's production of Don Quixote.
For Michaela fans - here is a recent link to AlJazeera and the South African Manszi Dance Theatre where Michaela, now 17, is dancing Gulnare in Le Corsaire.
that was beautiful, better than any other of these 13 year olds can do. all the young kids dont have technique they just kick their leg and get off balance, you have very nice technique and artistry.
Usually, the closest I come to watching dance is DWTS. My brain just did a hard reboot. This was amazing! In less than 2 minutes, I've become a wannabe afficinado of ballet. Her lines, her pointe, her timing, her precision. Shoot. I have no clue what I'm saying. When my wife gets home I'm going to tell her we're done with amateur dance. Gotta find the real stuff!
