Michelin Anakee 3 Tires Review
www.revzilla.co...
The Michelin Anakee 3 are the latest version of a tried and true adventure tire that feature a radical new look. The tiger-striped pattern on the new Anakee 3 uses 3 distinct groove profiles to deliver performance. The indented grooves help promote consistent wear, the transverse grooves help shed water and the beveled grooves help move loose debris like mud or gravel. A new silica tread compound dramatically improves mileage over the Anakee 2 and helps provide excellent wet traction. Stability and ride quality, both solo and 2-up, is improved by the new high-rigidity sidewall casing. With more rubber on the road, the ride is quieter and offers better handling on the road. Expect better road performance and consistent off-road performance on these dual sport tires and don't let the radial tread pattern scare you. Available in bias and radial fitments for 19 or 21" front and 17" rear tires.

I have had the Anakee 3 on my F650GS for 1500 miles so far and they are pretty stable. They seem to grip well on the road (dry, very cold and wet). The agillity is also great, cornering way faster than with my previous Pirelly Scorpion Trail and feeling a lot more confident. I don't find them cold either. Some people claim to have riden lots of miles on them, we'll see. I hope my experience helps someone. Best regards from Spain.

The Tourance NEXT are the only true Dual Sport tire with dual compound technology. Ali has ridden with a set of Tourance NEXT on her BMW GS1200 and highly recommends them. -CK

It depends on how "off-road" you are pushing it. The Anakee 2 and Anakee 3 tires are really a light off-road option meant mostly for street ADV bikes that occasionally go off-road, but will grip well in gravel. The technology is definitely been improved upon for the Anakee 3 through their unique tread cutting patterns -CK

I have some 42,ooo kms on my KLR 650 I have only just worn out my second set of Annakee 3's with the front this time still having a decent amount of tread while the rear this time around is smooth as a baby's butt . I am now torn between going 50/ 50 or staying 80/ 20 . Annakee 3's hold the pavement so well . I'd hit Deals Gap on them any day .

One thing about all of the revzilla reviews is they don't actually "review" the product. They talk about the marketing features available from the manufacturer. If I knew how loud these tires were having actually used them I would never have purchased them. In the future, it would be great to hear more about first hand experience with the products, rather than just hearing the brochure ware.

Right on. As soon as they are available, I'm throwing a set on my 2011 Triple Black 12GS. ~Ali

The tread pattern is definitely a unique one. This set is actually going to go on Officer Mahoney's V-Strom, who is a big fan of the Anakee 2's. Stay tuned for that rider review. I currently have Heidenau K76 on my 12GS, but hope to upgrade to the hot new Metzeler Tourance Next, which is the first ADV tire with a dual compound rear. ~Ali

Sorry, I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but it depends on how you ride them! Different bikes and different riding styles will change tire tread life pretty dramatically. Even the difference between riding highway, or riding twisties will make a difference. Check the reviews on the product page to see what other people have listed on this tire by their experience! -CK

The tread is pretty wild, right? Leave us a product review when you've had a chance to put them through their paces. -CK

Done almost 8000klm on my A3's on r1200GS 2010, great in all conditions (no mud). Bit noisy when new but thats gone now.

David Hawking How many miles did you have to do to get rid of noise? It's driving me nuts! I have 160 miles on them

The Anakee 3 probably edge out as the better off-road option, but if you mean to spend any time on dirt I would consider something more aggressive like the Karoo 3. -CK

These are amazing tires . I have had them Exclusively on my 650 KLR ............... Two sets and Over ...Over 40,ooo kms travelled . These tires have never given a hint of trouble from day one to Bald they hook up ... I don't know who is working for the compeditors and calling them Panicky 3's , because there's no need to worry with these tires . If your touring the highways and back roads with little intentions of getting in Muck then this might be the high milage tire for your adventures. Panicky hell no not in 40,ooo kms plus nothing but confidence . I have never heard noise from them ever in two sets and 40,ooo kms . I don't know how just looking at the design how it would be possible to get them to make noise..... Maybe if under inflated but who would ride like that ....

Certainly looks cool and more road orientated than the 2. I ran Roadsmarts on my Tiger 1050 and they were superb, I've now got a GS12 with Tourances on, while good, I've never got that last 5% of confidence when I've got it on its ear in the twisties, it was going to be a set of Dunlops again because they are bang on the money but I've just come across these now so I'll keep an eye on the reviews, cheers .

Biggest con for this tire is that they're damn LOUD on my KTM 1050 on road when new. I've only done around 6000km on them. Compared to Battlax A40, this tire is lighter and doesn't wobble past 200km/h vs the A40. Cornering on dry is commendable. I'd NOT recommend this tire due to its noise level.

Yeah I've seen the new Metzelers also, they look cool too, looks like our new GS's over here will come with either these or the Anakee 3's, now that you've mentioned the dual compound then thats swaying me towards the Metz! cheers.

I need help Gear Geeks. I'm split on these Anakee 3's and the Pilot Road 4 Trails for my '08 DL650 V Strom Both seem to be great tires, my riding is prob 90/10 or even 95/5 On/Off road. Are the PR4 Trails strictly 100% street tires? I'd like the best possible traction when on street, and decent gravel/dirt/grass grip. No mud riding, just fire and logging trails, and gravel. I'm not 100% dedicated to Michelin but these seem to be the best options.

JFeezy The Pilot Road 4 Trail tires are for adventure touring bikes ridden exclusively on the road. I recommend the Pilot Road 4 Trails if you're a 90/10 or 95/5 because that 5 or 10 percent isn't going to make a difference. A 90/10 or 95/5 tire is 90+ percent road-biased so it's not going to perform very well off-road. In my opinion it's worth going with a 100% street tire so 90% of the time you have the best possible street performance. Whether you're on a 90/10, 95/5, or 100/0, you will have to play it safe off-road because all three tires are heavily road-biased. -Hi-Viz Brian

RevZilla Great! Thanks Brian appreciate the advice. Basically not worth sacrificing grip on the 90+% of street riding just for a little (apparently very little) better off road handling. Thanks for the quick response!

Between the Anakee 3 and the Tourance NEXT, is one better than the other off road? Same question for on road? I'm still on my original Tourance EXP, but I'd like to get a little more off road from my next set, but not so much that I'm giving up a lot on road.

Those tires are 90% road... not dual-sport, really. It really sucks in sand or mud. Great on road thou.

Stay clear of these tires! My front tire developed a visible ridge around the center very quickly. Looked at reviews and others were having this problem.
