misinformation lol #1 the sticky part of the tire is wider on the RS/GP, and they're not completely the same composition wise. The GP will tear way more aggressively and no not last as long as the road 5. Impossible theyre exactly the same. The Power 5 is simply the tire that sits right below the GP. It having more side ipes is irrelevant 99.9% of the time but I guess that too.

I've had the Power 5s on my 2021 S1000RR for a while now and I gotta say I love these tyres. If you're accustomed to more of the Pirelli V shape these are going to feel really slow at first as you lose the quick tip in. However what you get makes up for it IMO. You get a consistent feel all the way around the tyre and it gives you so much confidence. 50°+ lean no sweat. Long sweeping corners at 200kph no problem. Never running out of grip you can just push and push. Quick to warm up. Great wet weather performance (seriously!). Mileage seems to be good so far no squaring off as of yet. A bit pricy due to them being new but I'll buy these again for sure.

Once you've tested these tires, can you answer this question? Which tire is the most similar to the Power RS? I have had these tires on my tuono and I'm very happy with them. I was particularly impressed when I ridden in rain, and they didn't throw any fits, for a sporty tire. From what I understand, the power 5 might offer better wet weather performance, but I'm not sure if they offer the same dry weather grip as the RS. Thank you!

Ima pirelli angel GT guy, but im very disappointed on the GT2. They feel like the bike is slipping going over pavement like surfaces on the high way. Like how when you go over those patches on the road where they fill the cracks with. Regular GTs never had this issue. Even tho the GT2 is alot better as far as grip goes, that one con about them is irritating. Im willing to bet its the two center lines thats going around the whole tire. So im thinking about switching to ROAD 5.

@@RevZilla As in the internal structure is different or something? Based on Michelin on RU-vid and some articles using the same images the % of silica to carbon black is the same. In fact they quote the RS rear to be 23/54/23, while GP is 22.5/55/22.5 i.e. more silica. Which I'd imagine is just rounding and ends up being the same.

On high lean angles they are just slicks, an advantage. I can't see why anybody wants to have grooves until the edge of his tire. In particular 'the more carefull drivers' in the wet and on the street - they don't go track - never use the last 20 millimeter of tread towards max lean - so, even with reduced length of the grooves, getting away water to the outside should be no problem. If in theorie it passes outside a tires end or end of groove 20 mills earlier - does anybody see (inside the splash) or even recognize? The water will leave the groove end of streetcontact of the tire anyway - that's way before end of groove. But the markets will have to find out over tim, convince themselves - educating the markets here by a single manufacturer may just bring danger for the brand and costs for him. But individuals are free to choose on their own today already for the max rubber while cornering with higher lean angles, nice to have. And i want to buy rubber for to drive on anyway, not them grooves. 😉

I've gone from Michelin Pilot Power 2's to Bridgestone Battlax S22's bc the PP2's are discontinued. I researched a lot and learned about tires needing certain temps for optimum performance and traction. What are the temp requirements for each of these, like do either of these need more heat for better traction or the same? If don't know for sure, please don't guess. I don't want misinformation. Riding style and road surface has a lot to do with tire temps as well. Maybe they're too new but I found a lot more positive reviews for the S22's than the PP5's. I'd like to see a review comparing those 2. Also what's main difference between the Michelin Pilot Power 5 and Pilot Road 5?

I've had both on my bikes and imo the Power 5 is not worth it. Provides maybe a little bit more grip than the Road 5 but I can use both on the track, the Road 5s tend to get a bit too hot but that's okay if you take a few breaks but it's completely fine for twisties. Apart from that Power 5 was gone in 4.5k miles on the rear, whilst my Road 5s lasted 14k miles on the same bike. The fronts of the power 5 are exceptional though and provide much better feel than the Road 5 whilst still offering decent wet grip, Imo Road 5 on the rear and Power 5 on the front is a VERY nice combo, the fronts last much longer than the Power 5 rears anyway so if you get a Road 5 rear and Power 5 front (since they are basically identical profile) they will wear out about the same rate.

@John451vfr
@John451vfr 3 года назад
With some 1500kms on the Power 5s I'm going to say I like the feel of the Rosso 3s better, in fact between the the Rosso 3s and Power 5s I had Angel GT 2s and liked the feel of those better as well. The Power 5s are good in that they turn in pretty neutrally as I like, they grip well enough in cold slippery conditions, in otherwords I'm OK with them until they wear out. Maybe it's only my opinion but they feel a little wooden through tight flip flopping twisties in comparison to the previous two Pirellis....On the plus side as Michelins go they are far better than my hated Road 4s I've had in the past..

a crazy fact that no one mentions about the power 5 is that its 600 grams lighter than the competition on the back tire, I am looking forward to replace my old metzeler racetec rr k3 and when I saw that difference between power 5 and everyone else I was very impressed, people spend 4k on carbon wheels for 1-2kg sprung weight savings so 600 grams just from the tire sound amazing considering that its not priced very different than the competition.

Road 5s are great, I've tried the power 5s cos i was like "the road 5 is so good in the wet I've never even come close to slipping so maybe i can sacrifice a but of wet grip for handling" I went for the Power 5s and sure enough, if the road 5 is 60/40 for dry/wet then the power 5 is a 70/30, still immensely good in the wet compared to other tyres but it did the occasional slip over a wet manhole cover or paint lines, nothing major though, however the mileage is terrible. They cost the same as the Road 5s and only last 1/3 the miles. I honestly can't tell the difference for dry grip between the 2, the only problem with the road 5s is a bit less feel and they tend to overheat on the track if you go out for too long too hard, but it's manageable by taking a cooldown lap or just taking a short break, but that's it.

Power 5 surprised me : for a Michelin it's quite stiff and long to break in. Very good on the wet but not that sticky though so for my ZZR/ZX14 I'll go back to the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II which IMO and several tests is the best sports bike tyre. For my GSXR 1000 I'll either stick to the Pirelli Supercorsa SP or try the new Continental Raceattack 2 Street

I've been using the road 5 on my Ninja for about a year and a half and they're great. I can't imagine anyone on the street ever needing more grip than that and then the added benefit of having awesome grip in heavy downpours as well. I don't know how well the Power 5 would do in those conditions though, might be good enough to get you to where you need to go. No one is really pushing it in downpours anyway.

I mounted Power 5's on my zx14r. 3000 miles in the front tire is hardly worn at all. The rear is at about half life. Problem here is a bad one though. As I pass 100 mph the bike begins to shake, a definite tremor from the tires and not a bike malfunction. It gets progressively worse the faster you go. SO, I will not buy these again. They replaced S21's which NEVER vibrated no matter how fast. I've heard from others they've had the same problem. It's not an isolated incident. Beware.

@aidenlothian9642
@aidenlothian9642 4 года назад
doesn't need 2ct+ on the front. The + means the centre harder compound goes from the centre of the tyre to the edge of the tyre and the softer stickier compound found at the edge of the tyre is place on top of that harder compound giving the shoulders of the tyre extra support at lean for use for example under acceleration ect. Even Michelins new Power Cup 2 doesn't have 2ct+ on the front so it's not that these are somewhat budget tyres because it's lacking that feature. I'm not sure any tyre has 2ct+ on the front. It's simply not needed.
