Michelin Tires UPTIS = Michelin Indestructible Tire | Real life Demonstration about this new Airless Wheel Technology. Michelin and General Motors presented a new generation of airless wheel technology for passenger vehicles - the MICHELIN Uptis Prototype (or “Unique Puncture- proof Tire System”) - at the Movin’On Summit for sustainable mobility.
Michelin and GM also announced a joint research agreement under which the companies intend to validate the Uptis Prototype with the goal of introducing Uptis on passenger models as early as 2024. #michelin #tire #uptis
READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE: www.gommeblog....
The Uptis Prototype is re-engineered for today’s passenger vehicles, and it is also well suited to emerging forms of mobility. The vehicles and fleets of tomorrow - whether autonomous, all-electric, shared service or other applications - will demand near-zero maintenance from the tire to maximize their operating capabilities.
The Uptis Prototype represents a major advancement toward achieving Michelin’s VISION concept, which was presented at the Movin’On Summit in 2017 as an illustration of Michelin’s strategy for research and development in sustainable mobility. The VISION concept introduced four main pillars of innovation: airless, connected, 3D-printed and 100% sustainable (entirely renewable or bio-sourced materials).

Something like this will only be released by a major manufacturer when they realize they can’t continue to hide innovation from the public. @@Wtfiswhattheysay It's not hidden innovation, the reason this isn't used is because it is known to fail off road. These have always been available for purchase, no one buys it because they are very expensive and not a versatile. Additionally airless tires have much less suspension, making the ride very bumpy compared to normal tires. If your vehicle is not ruggedized, airless tires can actually increase part failure on your automobile due to these shocks.

Se Collection Inc. yes, we all know that this type of rubber tires already been used decades ago. I saw them too when I was 10 years old. However, these tires don’t handle well at high speed and even surface high way and they provide very uncomfortable ride. They are only designed for rough, dirt, uneven and rocky roads and low speed automobiles. In passenger cars, I don’t know it’s a good idea considering the speed of modern cars.
@animalhouseIZ
@animalhouseIZ 5 лет назад
This is a great piece of technology with lots of promise. No longer worrying about some of that road trash or construction trucks dropping nails and screws. No tire pressure monitor light to worry about will be nice. It offers a new level of safety for those rainy nights in the middle of now where you’ll no longer have to change that tire in the rain. Yet at the same time how much will it cost, last and even more to effect the ride? Will it be mainly for high Way or city driving. Can it be offered for off-road use. There are still a bunch of questions people will ask but I am confident with enough testing they will be answered. I look forward to see when they will be offered. Nicely done video and thank you for sharing a glimpse of the future.
@briankemp2290
@briankemp2290 5 лет назад
Why do we never see real world speed tests and handling on a test track. In the UK the maximum speed limit is 70mph the vehicle in video hardly breaks 30mph. You dont see the vehicle using it's full steering lock in an everyday situation like a parking lot or turning at a junction. I dont think they have perfected the lateral stability yet.

@@LitoGeorge well said. The concept has been around since the 90's. Step on the brakes and the rims stop but the tire continues to roll over the rim. Outward force from air pressure keeps the tire adhered to the rim. 😔

They will still crack and dry out. Large rocks, sharp objects, salt and crossive substances will get in those rubber spokes and weaken them. The only way this technology has a chance on the roadway is if they implement it in the sidewalls of a typical tire. Something that will seal and protect the internal rubber spokes , as well as allow for a lubricant to be added. Furthermore the sidewall of the typical tire adds additional support. The wheel works fine as it is, so there is no need to reinvent it, improve it.
