@getrealandsee Sarah Hughes skated one clean program in her life, never completed a true lutz, and was awarded Olympic gold. Good for her, I don't think it really did skating any favors. Michelle's skated more PERFECT programs than most Oly gold winners COMBINED. She's the gold standard, she's bigger than the Olympics.
she has earned more perfect 6's than any skater in the history of skating. she has earned more medals than any other skater in history.. her competitive career was the longst duration of any figure skater ever.
I think the reason why there will never be another person with as many titles and wins as Sonja Henie is because all the greats retire as soon as they win a OGM which is really sad had Michelle Kwan won the OGM she probably would've retired too... I still think she deserved too win it... but still...she probably would have but I'm really proud of her for staying in as long as she did.
If she did the flip here instead of the toe she would have been showered with 6.0s. Notice when she made the change she got all those 6.0s. Still a good program though.
LOL at allengland telling getreal (AKA herself) to tone it down. The five dislikes for this video are no doubt from getreal, allengland, ithinkformyself, cricketsknow and kwansansog because they are all the same person!
Dick would have a heart attack if he could see the "laybacks" of today's skaters. 😂 And you think with all the flexibility that girls have these days, doing a proper layback should be a piece of cake.
@anubethc45 True, Sasha and Alissa handled their disappointments with considerably more maturity and poise than Tonya ever did, but they still have reputations of crumbling under pressure of competition in that they repeatedly failed to skate their best when they most needed to. I put Tonya Harding in a different category. She was a train wreck.
Really? I don't think a nine-time national champion, five-time world champion, and two-time Olympic medalist can ever be considered a choker. She didn't skate her best in 2002, but the other comment here was correct--she was great in 1998 and just got beat by Tara. Split decision. Chokers are not icons, chokers do not revolutionize their sport, chokers do not win. Michelle Kwan is no choker--get it straight. If you really want to talk chokers, let's talk about Sasha Cohen.
@getrealandsee OMG, RELAX! You're entitled to your opinion and me mine. Having watched figure skating my entire life, it is indisputable Michelle influenced the sport far more than Tara did. That's not to say that Tara wasn't a phenomenal athlete. So, please, simmer down. If you don't like Michelle, that's fine. No one's forcing you to. But picking fights with people who do love her is pointless and a waste of time. You watch Tara videos, we'll watch Michelle and we'll agree to disagree.
@anubethc45 In my view, being inconsistent and unable give your best performance when it counts most is a choker. How many times was Sasha Cohen in position to win a major titles but didn't do it because of sub-par performances? 2004, '05', '06 Worlds and '06 Olympics to name a few. As for Czisny, she is just as likely to skate terrific performances as she is to have a meltdown. I love them both, but just because Alissa and Sasha are levelheaded about it all doesn't mean they didn't choke.
