I don't mind the old-school esthetics... except the clock radio display like you say 😆 I bet it would look really classy if they gave it the display of the RA-1572MKII!
The amp pared well with my old Polk ATI A5’s only needed some tone control bass +2 treble-1 but also decided to use the pre outs to a M&K V-125 subwoofer for more added bass. The bass is there when these things aren’t added but it needs more presence otherwise this is an excellent app.
Hey, great review. Nice to hear a ‘real person’ opinion. The fact that you keep your tech swayed me… it’s what I do (still have a vintage Marantz and Sansui - that my Dad bought in the late 70s). I picked up this amp. I listened with a few different speakers at the dealer. I love the look. Silver looks so solid. I will pair with my Axiom M60 V4s to start with (go Canada!), but will likely use with Monitor Silver 100s, which will likely sound better in the bass department in my open concept main floor listening area. Love that you shared the perfect pairings for this amp. I’ve seen reviews where they rate the output of this amp over 100w/ch at 8ohms, and I believe it (I think I saw 109 in one test). Like NAD they understate their wattage (rather than how mainstream AVR makers overstate theirs). Excited to do some deep listening.
Just a friendly piece of advice. Mk is pronounced Mark, not ...M...K...; it's a British term. It's funny, Lincoln had vehicles named the Mark I, 2, 3 and so forth, and all of a sudden it was ...M...K...X, instead of Mark 10...Love this amp.
That’s awesome! Thanks for that. I’m most likely going to go back on this review and do a quick follow up now that I did the 1582 review. They’re quite similar.
This video is basically just an unboxing followed by mostly pointless waffling with little in the information about the product, or any kind of sound testing comparison. People can obviously see what it looks like, so you can skip the aesthetic descriptions. I am sorry if I am being blunt but I think this video would have been better done in 4-5 minutes instead of nearly 10 min. Get all the important points of useful information and forget about the rest. Life is too short.
Mature or not, I couldn't finish the video for the exact same reason. So this channel is about audio, right? How can you be credible when you release a video with such terrible sound? Not only the background track, but the overall echo of your space makes it very difficult to listen to. Wish you all the best sir. @@0102studio
I replaced my Denon PMA800ne with this amp and its definitely a step up. The main thing I immediately noticed was how dead silent the background was compared to the Denon. It was also quite a bit clearer and more detailed. I Love the remote, you can literally point it in any direction and it works and you can pretty much control everything with it. Is it worth 3x the money of the Denon? Probably not, but I like it!
I'd like to have heard a bit of Miles or Coltrane or maybe even a little bit of Paul Desmond to get some idea of how good the sound is...I've found a brand new one being sold locally, still sealed in the box going for half price (No, it's not stolen :-) ) - I wonder how it would go with my KEF 104.2 reference speakers...I agree with you on the rather bland front design but the sound is more important.
To be honest, I want to give the amp another go. It sounded great and had all of the features I need. I might have to request it again to give it a fair shake.
@@0102studio I bit the bullet and bought it!. (In black)...Sounds awesome, although I do miss not having a tape in/out unlike the Rotel RC-1550 preamp that I sold..It plays nicely with my KEF's too!
I bought this amp after my old Akai receiver died and was having to use a Denon avr amp. As much as I was dissatisfied with the sound of the Denon I was shocked at how poor the Rotel sounded in comparison to the 2 old amps. I left it running for hours on end while I was away from home to run it in.I had it connected to my B and W cm5s2 and old refurbished Celef domestic monitor 2 loudspeakers to see if any improvement would come about. But nether the less the overall impression was of a lack of base and a lack lustre midrange. Male voices were so lacking in richness and body that I ended up turning the base way up and the treble down a bit to try and compensate. If this is the way of the future then Im sure Rotel will end up going broke. Give me the old seventies sound any day. I ended up swapping it for well reviewed Cambridge axr100 receiver. It has the rich midrange that I craved, and some decent bass oomph and a smooth treble, but I still ended up turning the bass control up and the treble down a bit. Both Amps upset my ears so much, that I rarely listen to my hi fi any more. I prefer the Bose radio, Tv and car radio over the Cambridge sound.
That lame display is the reason I bought the A11 MKii. The looks of that unit remind me of my old HK low profile components from the 90's and I absolutely love it in addition to the impeccable sound of Rotel.
To be honest, it’s pretty close. Depending on what speakers you use, in my case the B&W entry level 685’s i would stick to the A14. If it’s something that requires more then the 1582.
