You appreciated the Irony, Didn't you?? They're from Grand Rapids-our second largest city. It's mostly OK. They did not vacation in the Hoods of Detroit or Flint, however. The Issue with cities like Portland is that they are relatively small, and are mostly Non-Ghetto.
Portland OR was the first city we moved to from China more than 30 years ago. It was one of the most beautiful and safest cities back then! We lived on NW near downtown: out car parked on the road, hardly locked: we used to walk to downtown at night, we never had any safey concern. All the stores along the way were open. sitting ont he river side watching the water was the most peaceful and memorable experience. Can't believe it has changed to a hell today!
I notice the Mayor's improvement list didn't include things like: jailing criminals actually enforcing the law hiring DA's that will actually prosecute
@@bigmickey4330 Let me guess... About the time the state of CO turned blu? Ya, I thought so. There are Repercussions and Consequences for making Bad decisions
Why would you have all that stuff in your car just asking for it I don’t care what state you’re in. Still, I feel really bad for them obviously but don’t leave stuff visible in your car.
@@ThallonRose I don't live in an area where this happens. I live in Wisconsin, I've had my camping gear and my roadside emergency kit in my jeep year round for years without even the slightest worry about this happening. Even when I go to Madison and Milwaukee to visit friends or see shows its all in there and this stuff just doesn't happen. The only time I hear of things being taken from people cars is because they didn't lock their doors.
I know why it was different! The citizens of Portland got exactly what they voted for. Public sympathy for and encouragement of criminals gets you this dystopian hellscape.
I learned one big lesson after college: criminals are NOT nice people!!! They're usually nasty, evil, scum, insane, perverts, narcissistic, unpredictable, will ruin your life, and many will just plain kill you. I want nothing whatsoever to do with criminals. I love my state, Florida. We may not be perfect, but wow, I wouldn't trade it for any of those leftist dumps!
Yeah, as a long time resident of the city I advise you not to come here. I plan to relocate to Washington in the next year or two. The true underlying problem with Portland is our entrenched public officials. For some reason people keep voting for them. We need to jettison the entire board of county commissioners and city council before any progress can be made. Unfortunately, that is very unlikely to happen.
First thing my parents every taught me once I learned to drive - NEVER EVER leave anything in your car. EVER. We don't live in a utopia, always be on guard!
IDK about you, but where I live I can leave anything in my truck, I even leave the key in the ignition. This does NOT HAPPEN EVERYWHERE! Only when you allow this shxt
It amuses me when people pretend not to understand why this is happening in cities all over the United States. I think we all know how crime works by now. The public officials and voters are getting exactly what they have repeatedly voted for.
@@Mikomido5 Massive denial. I've tried to wrap my head around how folks could be so dumb, but my conclusion is pride. They are doubling down on their insanity rather than admitting they were wrong. Look at the way the liberal media is still trying their hardest to blame anyone but themselves for promoting dystopia as utopia. We have a lot more pain on the horizon unfortunately.
But what is the ultimate goal? Why are public officials catering to criminals? Why do they want the area to be a zone where the homeless come, where drug use is rampant, where crime is out of control, where the tax base is leaving? What is in it for the people who have orchestrated this mess?
Yes. In fall of 2020 I decided to go into Portland and was trying to get to a vintage store. Next thing I know I have protestors all over my car, smashing my windshield, jumping on the hood. I was so frightened. I kept my vehicle moving, although much slower out of fear someone would enter vehicle through a broken window. They held onto my vehicle screaming at me. I gradually increased my speed as able giving them opportunity to jump off which they did one by one. The car was so damaged that insurance company totaled it. I ended up purchasing the rental car I obtained. Plus I saw other things while I was there trying to get my transportation issues resolved. I had visited Portland many times in the past. But it was a totally changed place that now just instilled fear. About a year later a friend of mine went to a conference at a big hotel. I am not totally sure of the location. But in the city of Portland itself. She was attacked by a gang of people. She was gang raped, robbed and beat to a pulp. Sustained a traumatic brain injury She has been in a semi comatose state since and in a nursing home since. She was in her mid thirties with an infant and another small child at home. Portland is not the only city with these issues. Even here in my own home state. Most of the cities are controlled by left leaning democrats. I could tell stories of things that happened when a group of blm and antifa rioters entered a restaurant a group of us were eating at in downtown Dallas. I just no longer go into the cities. If I have to for medical care, etc. I research who is running the city and their policies. Since they are all leftist extremists anymore. I have refused advised medical care out of fear of entering the city center where the big medical center was in Houston. They talk about magas being terrorists which is all propaganda. It is very very visible and evident that the cities have huge issues with leftist terrorists. I mean, anything that makes you feel fear or terror to seek out needed services, prevents ambulances from getting through,……this is terrorism. Not peaceful protests. Taking over government courthouses. The entire January 6 thing was terribly wrong. But not even everyone accused really actually did anything. But several times lately we have had the Palestinian protestors enter and take over the rotunda of the capitol. Absolutely nothing happened. It’s just sickening. No…..Portland is a mess. But I stay away from the cities in general. Austin, our states capitol is just as bad, democrat run , very leftist government. Just sad. Very sad state of affairs. But to say the state of Portland is not related to leftist policies and propaganda would be pretty ignorant.
I couldn't agree more. I visited Portland once. The place was filthy, and homeless were everywhere. One assaulted my family. That place is unfit for human habitation.

I love the cities response, "more security" as if that will make any real difference in a "catch and release" or "ignore and look the other way" environment. GET RID OF YOUR LIBERAL GOVERNMENT or learn to like your new liberal NIRVANA. I promise if Portland keeps voting the way they do Portland has not reached rock bottom yet.
I learned, never leave ANYTHING in your car overnight. They smashed our windows to get a lunch bag with an apple in it. My husband is annoyed that I always insisted on carrying EVERYTHING into the motel room, but the few times we didn't our car was broken into and everything was taken, whether or not it was "valuable".
And to travel back home without getting ANY glass replaced?? surely they have insurance, they even come in a van and replace it for you.......dont even have to make an appt! @@williampotter3369
@@williampotter3369 If you knew how much those pencils cost, you'd think differently. Some sets can cost upwards of $200. I take mine on vacation, but would NEVER leave them in the car, especially one that's already compromised by a broken window.
I had been going to Portland, OR for business since the 1980's. It was a beautiful city until around 2005 when changes started happening. Mayor Ted Wheeler and Governor Brown destroyed the city and state,
When I was in New York I was warned not to even leave a penny where people on the street could see it, because they’d break the car windows to get it. A penny…
I was in Portland around 10 years ago for my nephew's wedding, and it was beautiful! No trash, roses growing everywhere. It was clean and safe and gorgeous. Now, my nephew (who still lives there) says it's unrecognizable. It is so sad that their government is too afraid to clean it up. It's only a matter of time before decent citizens start taking matters into their own hands. Hey, they can't put you all in jail. Stick up for your city! Bring beautiful Portland back!
I had a Relative who lived their for years and he always told me how Beautiful it was and Today he would be ashamed of the Politicians who run it now and I hope this couple have learned their lesson and make a mental note of never go to Demoncrap Run States or Cities and I hope Tourist doesn't go to those states.
This is what happens when drugs are decriminalized and the police are defunded!! Oregon has a joke of a government that is sure doing the “best” job ever to “keep Portland weird”. In case you’re wondering, “keep Portland weird” is the city motto…
I first visited Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington in 1962, and fell in love. I was 20 years old then and promised myself that I would be back one day. In 1977 I moved with my two young children to the Pacific Northwest and lived in Vancouver, Washington just across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. The town back then was small, very clean and it was a great place to raise young children. However it had limited ability to satisfy in the social arena. Portland was the place to go for that. Back then the crime rate was low and pretty much confined to certain areas that we avoided. And the city itself was very clean. It was beautiful actually and I loved living out there. Every time I travelled the return to the Pacific Northwest felt like coming home to a place where I had belonged all my life. Seven years passed before I moved back to the east coast. For a long time I pined for what felt like a major loss and seriously considered returning. Even now, having gone back for a visit a few years ago, I sometimes still long to be out there but only if I could go back to those magical days of thick, dark evergreen forests, cool summers, mild winters, snow-covered Mt. St. Helens, the majesty of the Columbia River Gorge, the clean. peaceful city on the north banks of the Columbia and the clean, good fun city of Portland, a fairly big city then that never felt, smelled, looked,or acted like any of the big cities on the east coast that I had known. About five or six years ago my daughter and I flew out to visit friends who lived near Portland. The visit with them was wonderful but a visit to the city of Portland was bitter sweet. Everything basically looked the same, the river, the roads and bridges, the buildings downtown but the streets of town were now littered and dirty and the homeless were everywhere, sleeping on the streets, some in tents, some just out in the open. I don’t have the words to write all that I saw, heard, smelled, stepped over or around that day. What a crying shame! The city had become a pit and was well on its way to becoming a dystopian nightmare. Much later and back home, I learned that Seattle, Washington, a once lustrous, shiny jewel of a city was now the same as, if not worse than, Portland.
First change we need to make. Very few people really deserve the term "homeless" most everyone you see are nothing more than druggy alky bums and we need to quit enabling their bad behavior. That means no more freebies.. Shoot I would take away needle exchanges.. take away the safety nets. You want to live like an animal you can face the consequences of your decisions to include some pretty horrible diseases and suffering.. it might just save some other lives. I wouldn't put another dime into anything except effective drug treatment and not something they can just walk out off. Something a judge can send you to and you don't get to just leave. A get clean farm. You work, you get treatment, you get some pay, you learn some skills but you can't leave and it needs to last quite a long time. 2nd time is just plain old jail and you get to rot in there for being a hazard to yourself. The northwest is ruined mostly by the flood from the south that has been ongoing for over 4 decades. They have changed the culture and ruined what was a nice little city.
Yep, Seattle is the same or possibly worse. I don't take the family downtown anymore due to safety concerns. The surrounding areas along i5 near Seattle isn't much better either... Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland is nicer, but also facing an increase in crime and homelessness issues.
They were naive after their their 1st break in, they should have removed everything at that moment if they were leaving their car with plastic in their windows.
This brings back memories. On a visit to Portland, a friend woke me to tell me that my car window had been smashed outside the house. I got out of bed, went down, and sure enough, stuff was stolen from my car. That was in 1990.
Stayed the night at a house in north Portland, probably 97, no beds inside so we took the van in the alley behind the house, woke up to someone going through all of our stuff. Crawled right in the van with us. Fun times.😂
I’m from Portland and moved out years before it went to hell. I went back before my dad and I didn’t even recognize it. It’s sad to think most my memories are there and I’ll never go back to the place I once called home.
it was getting really bad when I was there in 2021. I have memories of TRASH, piles and piles of it, tents, needles, just all kinds of trash ALL over the bike trails and tents in every corner of the city. And that used to be such a cool thing about Portland, having these awesome bike trails throughout the city. we can never take safety and cleanliness for granted ever again. it is truly sad what has happened to so many great cities in the US. we can't just sit here and pretend to not understand the REASONS it happened.
I moved out of Seattle after 40 years in 2015 before it went way down same as Portland. I use to love visiting Portland too. Sad to watch from a distance.
Depends on whether or not you live where it's normal for your car to be broken into. I guess if that's the life you want to live, then keep voting for it. I've never had any of my cars broken into since I started driving 20 years ago. I can leave them unlocked. I can leave expensive stuff in them. Heck, I can leave expensive stuff in the bed of my pickup truck because nobody around here is going to take it. I don't know about you, but that's how I want to live, so I choose to live where it's possible - and we all vote in a manner that allows things to stay that way. If you pay taxes, you are owed the ability to leave stuff in your car, by the government, period. If the people in office are not giving that to you, then don't vote for people that are RIPPING YOU OFF next time. You dig?
You get what you vote for!! I lived in Portland for 18 years, it was a my favorite city. It’s nothing what it uses to be. I used to go roller skating and riding bikes on the bike path, now it’s an active crime scene during day time and night is a murder scene.
After living in Portland from '76-82 it remained a dream to return one day to raise a family. This never happened and I'm glad we ended up bringing up our kids in Los Angeles near the beach. I hope Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco can get it together one day and reclaim these cities for the law abiding residents and visitors. But you mentioned voting - so I highly doubt it.
@@motomuso voting has been rigged for a long time because of mail in ballots which were introduced decades ago. We lived in Cali for 5 years after moving from Portland. To me Cali is even worse. I don’t think Portland is going to see any changes any time soon. It probably has to totally fall and be rebuilt from Scratch, politically speaking
Oregon, wants to get rid of all Prisons in the State by 2026, instead they want to have " Interdiction Centers " Staffed by Mental Health Workers, who will offer Criminals " Programs " to try to deter them from Violent Criminal behavior. I moved to Portland in 2000. It was the coolest little place to live. We had a blast, and I'm not exactly sure when it changed, but once it did, Portland was being eaten alive from the inside out. I left in late 2019, wound up in California, where I NEVER thought I would be. I was born in Seattle, but didn't live there long. I went to visit in 1999, it was pretty cool, I should've went about 10 years earlier I guess. But the destruction that's happening to both those cities is unforgivable. The people in charge should have criminal charges brought against them. Something. The mayor and the governor have been fumbling the ball for YEARS! People are sick of the liberals letting everything run amuck! Most of the state just wishes PDX would either get it together, or let them break the state apart, nobody wants anything to do with more CRAZY! I don't know if either Portland or Seattle will ever recover from what's going on now. And honestly, these two lost some GEAR, I'm just grateful it wasn't more serious! I'm glad they're ok and made it back home safely. Sorry about this trip you two, you're a cute couple, stay safe and blessed.

I was chased out of Berkeley in 1970 because I wrote an editorial in the news mourning the MURDER of a young police officer near my home. The leftists radicals who killed him said they were going to kill ME so I left. California is a total mess now. One of the people who threatened to kill me is the mother of the Governor of California today.
Quite a few hotel employees, security guards and parking estructures 's employees are linked to town criminals; they give their gang the heads up to come rob you. And if you display an out of town license plate you are an easy target. Sorry you went through this, stay safe 🙏❤️
I live on an alley where car thieves like to dump their stolen cars when they're done with them. The last couple was a mixed couple and I told them this isn't the first time a car has been dumped here and the last officer told me they had one kid in town that's been caught 7 times and released. So if he's been caught 7 times just imagine how many times he's gotten away. The guy was instantly enraged and was asking the officer if it was true and she acknowledged it. I told him the only thing we could do was move or vote for better leadership. I'm currently working on moving.
A few years ago a chop shop in Harrisburg PA burned and took an antique store away that I liked and a good mexican restraunt. The only place that survived was the strip club with some minor smoke damage. later on the mexican food place did re build and re open, but the antique store lost everything.
This is a perfect example of why the police are not your friend and are useless, just like in San Fran where there is a fencing operation one block away from a police station, the police know it is there and do nothing. or are they just getting paid to let it happen.

Here in Albuquerque, thieves will steal your car with all of its contents and you'll never see it again. Many a U-haul with their owner's contents have disappeared from hotel parking lots and never recovered. Be forewarned when travelling through Albuquerque!
I feel for the couple, and I don't mean to minimize what they had to endure, but... No matter where you are, don't leave stuff in your car. If you are going on a cross country trip, you should plan to take your items with you whenever you leave your car. I remember once, in my 20s, I had bought a new camera and opened it on the way home from the store. After I parked, I walked into my building with the camera in my hand, leaving the open empty box on the front seat. Someone saw that and broke the window to get what might have been in the box, and anything else possibly in the car. It was a good lesson. Don't leave anything...ANYTHING that looks like it might be valuable. And this applies no matter where you are.
Exactly. Where I live cars are broken into all the time because tourists see a picturesque town and think it's safe. I don't leave anything in my car and often leave it unlocked.
portland has always been a shithole. the 80s, trash was everywhere in downtown and seeing people shoot up in the streets. last time I was there was in the 90s. smelled like feces. maybe it is different now
I don't feel sorry for them. Nothing but shit has been happening in Portland. How do they not know what has been happening? How does he want to go back?? Didn't the mayor have his apartment vandalized a couple of years ago?? Government buildings were burned??
Yes. That silly girl needs to find a blind pig. Even they will find truffles once in a while. This goof took her back to his hometown to get robbed. Twice!
It wasn't long ago that Portland was a friendly city where you felt relatively safe. Portland was a gem. It felt a bit like a European city. Now it has the same problems as all other major US cities. The coup de grace was the drug legalization and the defund the police nonsense and condoning rioting. That has attracted many of the wrong sort of people. Vandalism, theft, drug abuse, homelessness, graffiti everywhere seem to be interminable. And then people wonder how we got here... how did this happen? Pandora's box was opened. Good luck shutting it.
Yes. Pretty accurate analysis. I’ve been going to Portland for 15 years. The downfall was swift. The Left ruins everything that it touches. It takes years to design and build a bridge. Seconds to blow it up.
All of this was done by democrat voters allowing this and voting for sick, perverted and mentally ill democrat politicians. What’s bad is democrat voters will blame it on something else and not see they started the hole problem.
Very true. They just “plastic” their window, and still left things in the car… and they think it won’t be break into still? If you can put your car into some public parking garage, anyone still can walk there.
I can’t imagine leaving valuables in my vehicle in any urban environment. That was very naive. I had my car broken into and all they found were a bunch of McDonald’s napkins I was keeping in the between seats storage…
I have a work van and now we just bring what we think we'll need and nothing is left in the vehicle. It's a pain and sometimes an extra expense for our customers if we have to run back to our shop.
You are the key to reducing being impacted by crime. Do not leave anything in sight in your car. Do not park to far away from other cars. Look at the news for days ahead of time to see what crimes are being reported so you are aware of the environment.
They didn't try to vacuum the glass out? I work at Safelite we would help vacuum out most of the glass. Then wrap broken windows. I'm shocked they weren't pulled over in every state on the way back
@@williampotter3369 what's funny is Portland actually has the main hub for the area and the warehouse over by the airport... If they would have gone in and talk to the main hub location... They would have accommodated them and prioritize them... Also you can knock out door glass windows really fast if there's multiple since you know what to expect on the next door... They're back glass also is pretty simple and straightforward I would have been able to knock that car out in probably three hours with the back glass and the four doors... Of course Safelite wood quote ask for you to leave it for the day.... In this scenario knowing the managers they would make this happen .
These appear to be two young, naive, leftists. The guy used to live there, but hadn't yet seen the result of voting for leftists. Now he has seen it. This is exactly what he voted for.
What was stuff still doing in the vehicle? No one breaks into an empty vehicle. Youngsters will learn. I NEVER leave anything in the car in any big city
Portland and San Francisco were two of the most beautiful cities in America that are absolutely wrecked now. My oldest was born in Portland and I'd hoped to take a road trip back with both of my children since we moved away years ago. I wouldn't dream of doing that now. I hope both of these cities will be restored someday.
I just came back. I drive all over the city regularly, and yes homelessness and drug use are up, but it's still a beautiful, vibrant downtown. What you're saying is ridiculous right wing hyperbole.
@@DirtFlyerdont lie. Downtown Portland is just a bunch of homeless people fighting and stealing, boarded up businesses everywhere. Yeah real beautiful and vibrant. Lol. Portland hasn't been cool in about 20 years. I grew up there from 1990 to 2008
I feel terrible for them. No matter where you live or what city you visit, never ever leave anything in your car. Take your stuff into your hotel room. I felt the same way as them when I visited San Francisco. The situation there is horrible and unsafe. Desperate times brings desperate people.
They aren’t desperate. They are criminals. They want other people’s stuff so they just take it. The more society justifies their behavior the more dangerous our country becomes for decent citizens.
@@mrbillinsfOkay I won’t believe my lying eyes or actual statistics. Or the businesses that are leaving because of crime. Or people just leaving their trunks wide open so criminals can see they have nothing to steal. And so on. Maybe you aren’t walking far enough into the city.
Yeah, but the city politicians are going to re-fund the defunded police...so everything can return to normal...lmao. It's just not that simple...once people figure out they have free reign to steal anything and everything with little to no consequences...it's going to take years to put the genies back in the bottles...and longer still for tourist to trust the city.
The defunding stuff was almost 100% big talk, anyway. The 2021 budget was down like 4% from 2020, and then the budget grew every year after that. It's currently higher than it's ever been. Turns out you can't make many lasting or serious policy changes by doing insurrectionist cosplay because you got bored during quarantine.
@@interior_defecator I can't speak to this budget but across the country most defunding efforts were more about taking the money away from police and criminal prosecutions diverting the funding into other social programs while also passing policies permitting or laws legalizing criminal activity....overall budgets were rarely decreased. Many of these cities eliminated open police positions especially for patrol officers while encouraging early retirements. With the vitriol of the public and the dearth of political prosecutorial will the police quickly realized no arrests was easier and safer for them. So it is better for them to ignore these crimes and/or leave policing altogether...and now there's a nation wide shortage of experienced police officers. As you point out the net result is lasting impacts.
My heart goes out to this young couple, but I have to say ... never, ever leave electronics or anything of value inside a car and walk away. Tough times are coming and your valuables aren't going to be safe - in almost any city you can name. Inflation just keeps growing, things are going to get really bad and there's going to be a lot of desperate people out there. I will be more than happy if I am wrong on this.
You can leave your diamond bracelet on your Dashboard in Dubai. While I agree with your statement from a practical standpoint, the problem is a much deeper morality and cultural issue.
@@baigish100 My comment is not at all about assigning blame or even getting down to the cause... My point is this: this country is heading towards a huge economic downturn. Everyone needs to start becoming more aware of how to stay safe in times like that.
Yep, I'm here in Southern Oregon where it's much better than Portland and obviously more remote but still hear about people having expensive things stolen from their cars. This is a huge problem on the entire West Coast.
It's not that simple, rather, a confluence of serious factors that combined -- like a cancer -- eat away at what could have been and, maybe, could still be in the future vibrant communities.
@@Love-dw6ry Portland, Chicago, New York City, Seattle , Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles. I could go on but l don’t need to because every one of those Liberal Cities speaks for themselves.
It seems that way but I dont think it is, they are just lost...and dont know what to do, The City leadership is Useless, they are WOKE DEMOCRATS, that will turn Portland into Detroit.....
Don't ever leave anything in your car in Portland. I mean anything. I'm so sorry for these peeps and their hopeful attitude. Portland destroys that pretty quick. Portland - Keep it Miserable.
Just the other day I saw people being interviewed about how great the country is going and even with all the things that are going wrong and going down the drain they still won't change their mind so it's fruitless to bother. Just enjoy supporting them and let them deal with the mess.
Fortunately I live in a small town and my side of town is very safe. I leave my truck open all the time and have left stuff in there on accident. I caught someone looking in my truck once. He is no longer alive to look in peoples vehicles anymore.
I drove Lyft and Uber in Portland from 2015 until spring 2020. The graffiti, decay, vandalism, homeless, filth, needles, murders, attacks, drug use, bathroom closures (or key coded) got progressively worse during those five years. Towards the end, I was so embarrassed and ashamed by the condition of the city for all my tourist customers. Portland has truly been ruined by their liberal and enabling politicians and refusal to prosecute criminals and keep the city clean.
This is the result of capitalism without social democracy. Why aren't there adequate income medical and housing supports? Because Republicans hate those things.
Wow. I've been to Portland several times. Parked in parking garages, in parking lots, in street parking, in friends' driveways. Have never had a single issue.
Sad that this happened but why on earth would anyone leave valuables in a car in a big city, especially one with a reputation like Portland... and especially leave more there after it had already been broken into?
Because they're a sweet young naive couple. Based on the interview, I'm not sure they've learned the big lessons, they're just not going back into Portland.
@lilac6940 it was such a beautiful city when I lived there in the 80s. Sad what it has become. But if he lived there in 2020 he should have known! Especially downtown... yikes
I grew up right between Portland and Seattle. Criminal charges should be brought against these politicians. Oregon is actually a little worse. It started with governor Brown and then his sister moved north….the cancer spread. I would never go back and it’s the most beautiful area I’ve ever lived in
Sorry but it's NOT Oregon! It's WESTERN Oregon that is the issue. The same can be said for the "Pungent" Sound area of Washington. In both states, go east of the Cascades and it's much different.
Sadly, no charges will be filed against the politicians. Neither will there be charged filed against the citizens who continually vote those politicians into office. It would seem that people could figure it out, but there's a blind spot about the devastating effects of leftism on a society that defies logic. We've come to the place where we're so open-minded that our brains have fallen out, and we're okay with that. 😢
I would not go there anymore. I lived there 3.5 years ago. It is a terrible city now. It is actually disgusting. It is the leaders and the DA not bringing anyone to Justice. So sad for Portland was a beautiful city long ago.
My husband and I visited Portland and Seattle in the early 80's....both beautiful cities. Now you can't pay me to even go to a conference in either city. What a shame!
I'm a Registered Nurse who, years ago, wanted to relocate to the Pacific NW, having chosen Portland, thinking it didn't have the social problems of Seattle. My opportunity has now come, but I've changed my mind.
I’ve lived here in Sacramento for 30 years this November 22yrs old when arriving. The local TV news reported back then how beautiful Portland OR was and how Sacramento was striving to become like Portland 😅We were like, wow that’s a great city, Sacramento sucks! 😅But as the decades passed Sacramento became that great city. People especially from the San Francisco Bay Area flocked over to us and this city grew and expanded becoming something to be proud of. Sad for me to see Portland waste away 😢sincerely. It was a Gem of a city. To be admired and envied. Come back Portland! We’re rooting for you all 😊
You left stuff in your vehicle, a value that clearly thieves can see and you’re amazed that your car was broken into. Then you leave those same items that weren’t taken in your car cover the window with plastic and you are amazed that your car was broken into. Am I the only person that sees the logic in it?
The thief probably broke the other windows to teach the kids a lesson. Plastic bags are not a deterrent. If the first broken window didnt wake you up, perhaps three more will. But then again, you cant fix stupid
He's a 20 year old. Totally wrapped up in his life, living in his own bubble. Totally expected. Conversely, anyone who spent time in Afghanistan or Iraq in there 20's knows exactly what went wrong.
I've noticed a lot of (ahem.. liberals) are reluctant to get too deep into talking about it. They know it's their s*it policies that caused it and they are not ready to own it yet. DENIAL still working for them! but not for long.
Exactly!! My daughter lives alone while going to school and I tell her never leave anything in the car especially the front where anyone can see! While shopping never put shopping bags in the car and go back shopping! Go back another time cause people always watching
This is a shame. Sorry this happened to you. I live in a safe Portland suburb and never drive into downtown. It used to be safe, and I never worried about my car or safety. Now days, we just avoid going there at all. Sad to see such a vibrant city lose its soul.
Keep voting for the liberal democrats and soon the entire state of Oregon can be turned into a third world ghetto complete with drug cartels and corruption and sex trafficking too!? Wow the fun you will have right?
They should have gotten a motel in the suberbs. Not a hotel in the crime-ridden hood, where you can't even keep an eye on your car at night in a parking garage
They made 2 mistakes 1) parking in that type of parking in Downtown, there are underground parking lots in hotels and business buildings that are much safer, 2) leaving belongings visible inside the car.
Every parking garage ticket I've ever had states "The owners of this parking garage are not responsible for any lost/stolen items. Park at your own risk." 😬
Parking garages are the absolute worst places to park. 1. They’re typically not cheap 2. They’re typically desolate in terms of people, leaving yourself open to being robbed or worse in an enclosed space where no one can see or help you. 3. There is a chance you will either get blocked in or locked out, meaning you’re going nowhere and are stuck. 4. Parking spaces are narrow AF so your chances of the vehicle getting dinged or damaged is much higher.
What about arresting the criminals, removing them from the streets and sending them to prison so they can't do it again? Portland's thought process: Instead of removing the criminals just spend 10x more money hiring more security and police.
@@rhuephus Yeah, by increasing the police budget $800,000. That not a very effective way of defunding the police. You should pull your head out of Hannity and Carlson's asses.
My son experienced the same thing in San Francisco 7 years ago. They walked away from the car for just 30 minutes to photograph the bridge, and everything in the car was stolen through a smashed window. I am so sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, it is not a problem that exclusively Portland. 😢
My co-worker had her rental car windows smashed, her laptop bag in the driver seat and her luggages in the back seat were stolen while she was at the traffic light. Her car wasn't even completely stopped. The light had just turned green when she approached the traffic light and started slowing down as there were cars in front that had stopped. These people don't care.
Happened to my friends in SF almost 25 years ago (just a camera case stolen). Not new, but still a shame. I've been paranoid since then about having anything visible in my car.
My brother had his car unlocked in Portland. There was nothing but an empty plastic water bottle. They broke the glass to steal something but there was nothing to steal
so you were never taught that coddlling criminals is a good thing? Where in the world did you get educated that ignoring all laws was a good thing? Why are so many people voting for these idiot liberal democrats unless secretly you adore watching your city destroyed from within?
Why should they have to empty the car ? That's the problem. Blame the victim. You have devolved into expecting to be robbed. It is obviously ok with you. 6th
@@voidmayonnaiseWell, they’re stuff was stolen in a parking lot while staying at a hotel, so IN THE HOTEL would be a good place for their stuff, especially after it already happened once the previous night. They’re dumb. Yes, it’s the thief’s fault, but leaving things out helps make you their target. Of course we shouldn’t blame SA victims for what they wear. People should be able to walk down the street completely naked without SA. BUT… everyone’s aware that rapists are out there, and yes, it’s 100% the rapist’s fault, but choice of clothing can influence them to choose you as the target. No, the world shouldn’t be that way, but it is. Knowing rapists are out there, I’d much rather not be raped than to “be in the right” during a rape. The next day I’d much rather talk about my fun evening than “be right” in discussions about how that bad guy really shouldn’t have done that. But you do you, boo.
It has nothing to do with personal items in the car. My son had his insurance cancelled after four (4) break ins, probably by the same perps as he lived in downtown. No police response, no rule of law.
It's really sad what's happening in Portland. My sister lives in Gresham and I've been visiting the city since 97. I live abroad and the last time I came to the U. S. Was in 2019, I've been in Portland for 3 weeks and I've never seen as many drug addicts or cars vandalised as I've seen in this trip. You see people doing drugs even in front of schools! And no one seems to be doing anything about it.
My sisters live in Portland, and the rose colored glasses they wear are EXTREMELY thick. They think everything is fine except for one block down town. Even when Portland was burning for 100 days straight, it was fine. I live in Texas, and she still has the nerve to talk trash about Texas after everything that happens up there.
