Thank you for filming so many of the stepshows. But for the love of god, stop panning so much! For one thing, it's distracting. Try aiming the camera at one spot for a good ten seconds every so often. Let the drummers be the stars of the film. You always seem to be filming where the action is not. Furthermore, you're too close and too low. EVERY TIME. So frustrating!!
Hello, thank you for the comments. I should note that I'm primarily a spectator, then a photographer, and finally a videographer. As an alumnus of the band, I'm there to support the drummers and enjoy the performance, so I'm not really paying attention to the panning. I pan so that everyone gets included, though I'll adjust the pan frequency based on your comments (there are several other videos that focus individual sections, by the way). As far as too close and too low, if you've attended a stepshow you'll know that alums watch the warmups out back and end up running in and sitting on the ground in front of the crowd (see the crowd at 2:21). As a courtesy to the fans who waited 2+ hours to save their spots, I refuse to obstruct their view with a 5 foot tripod. And while I do have a wide angle lens, the sharpness has been unacceptable for video purposes. Thanks for watching!
