It develops workforce skills. It’s also a résumé builder.
Michigan FFA recently held its Ag Skill Contests at Michigan State University's Livestock Pavilion, where more than 3,000 students, grades five through 12, competed in floriculture, veterinary science, and milk quality, among 17 categories.
“They are doing hands-on learning,” said Maze Gusa, state vice president of the Michigan FFA. “Our biggest competition is floriculture. So what they’re doing is a flower arrangement. And then there’s vet science, where students work with animals.”
More than 850 teams competed, which is the largest number ever entered into the competition.
