USC didn't play Oregon and Washington the first year with Riley. In reality, they were probably the 4th or 5th best team in the conference. Led people to overrate them going into last season.
The Pac12 must have finally tried to protect their best teams, but unfortunately it was too late due to their fate being sealed. No different then how the SEC would rarely allow Bama and UGA, or their 2 best teams, to play each other in the regular season, so they could meet up in the Conference Championship Game to get 2 of their teams in the the 4 Team Playoffs.

This might be the dumbest prediction/opinions on the landscape of this sport that I’ve seen in a long time. This guy clearly only watched PAC 12 games and a handful of nationally televised SEC games. Who listens to this garbage outside of LA?
From the Texas perspective, I would actually argue that the "lesser to mid tier" SEC opponents will be easier to play and prepare for on a week in/week out basis then a lot of the matchups Texas faced in the Big 12 simply because of schematics. The Texas coaching staff is a lot more experienced dealing with more pro style and traditional concepts and match ups with straight physicality than they are facing some of the wild stuff you would see from teams in the b12. Last year Houston literally ran an entirely different defense, specifically for texas, that they had never once put on tape for example.. Historically, big 12 and sec matchups have an average score of 27.4 to 28.5.. Yes the SEC is a huge step up from a physical perspective, but I know Sark has built this roster up to handle that, and matchup better schematically with a majority of the teams(look at how we've played bama) I think the national media downplays how hard night games on the road in the big 12 actually are when you're getting the absolute kitchen sink thrown at you from some of the most creative & inventive coaches in the country. I'm not downplaying the SEC as a whole, I'm just saying that the Texas can't handle the SEC narrative from a skin deep level most fans have is just straight up wrong in my opinion. Time will tell though :)

As an oklahoma sooner fan.. its crazy to here this talk about how good Texas is and can be.. when WE won the big 12 every year. We also beat the dog shit out of missouri and A&M every year. Gave them to the SEC. Missouri gave them hell and so did A&M. The SEC had not played against a QB that could actually throw. Im sorry Bama, Georgia, LSU, and occasionally Florida.. Kentucky. Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, Ole miss, Vanderbilt, and Auburn are not good!!!

As a sample size of Cristobal’s work…Miami is not over rated. His Oregon teams 99% of the time had better talent but they consistently struggled to put away even the so called cup cake games. Sure they won but he had his starters in the game into the fourth quarter. Poor time management…horrible halftime adjustments. Boring play where top notch qb1’s go to die.

As I recall, and correct me if I'm wrong, I wasn't the person hyping Riley at USC dominating the conference within two years. It was guys like Cowherd. So now that Riley's hit a bit of a speed bump Cowherd tells me, "hey, slow down man. Give it some time." He acts like I'M the one who was promising USC dominance in two years. What? And he gets his minions to go along with this bullshit so they can be part of his huge network getting them the incredible amount of exposure that merely associating with him gets you. 14 minutes into this and a few takeaways: USC- why are even talking about them? They have a terrible roster. Not expected to do anything. Riley dodged the SEC and left Oklahoma and now he’ll be what PSU has been in the big ten when they joined. Every 10 years or so they will be good, but they will be a second tier program. Michigan- in a rebuild, yes. But not a “total” rebuild. They have 4 1st team all Americans in the pre season voting. 3 on defense. 2 of those are PFF’s 1.1 and 1.2 draft prospects. PSU- not the 3rd best team, however they do have a favorable schedule and could sneak into the big ten championship. Iowa- they are not good. They have no offense. McNamara is awful now and no confidence. It’s over for them.
I don’t understand the sucking off on Lincoln Riley. Comparing him to Jim is dumb because Jim had a lot of success before the Michigan job in college and pros. It’s exactly why outside of people who love to overreact or say nonsense for clicks he did get benefit of the doubt. Riley is a great offensive mind that isn’t up to par with everything else. Was shown for years and Oklahoma and now USC. It honestly blows my mind considering there be conversations about other coaches like Day in Ohio State and Dabo Swinney being on hot seat or lacking and both have done more winning than him. The latter having a great six year run in the Nick Saban era including winning a national championship.

A dovetail is an interlocking joint used for applications such as connecting the panels of furniture drawers. Tailspin is a falloff in performance, like a losing streak.

Plus OSU's offense was not flashy at all because they didn't have a NFL caliber QB to put up those types of numbers. They were a defensive lead team and their defense is supposed to be even better this season.

@@JeffreyLeohner If their offense can run the ball and throw it then they will probably be unstoppable because it's going to be very difficult for opponents to move the ball on their defense. They are loaded at just about every position group, even the backups and rotational players are talented. Hopefully they rotate their players to keep them healthy for the end of the season when it matters the most because it's going to be a long season.
