Mel Tucker was one of the worst coaching hires in B1G history. He allowed this type of thuggish behavior to take root and flourish. No wonder the school "set him up", they realized theyd hired a terrible coach with lousy character, the kind who shouldnt lead.

The announcer said the Michigan guy was first with "kind of funky block" and then MSU o-lineman took a cheap shot and the announcer said "it's always the second guy who gets caught". The first commenter meant that saying it's the second guy in a give and take that gets caught is crap cause the first guy did nothing and in no way was that equal give and take.

Er, yes there was. Immediately at 0:45, when they cut in, 17's hand is on top of 58's helmet. As for the "second guy" comment, that's something that's frequently used by coaches to tell players not to retaliate - the retaliator will get noticed, so don't retaliate. He's not excusing anything..

The Big Ten dropped the ball when it came to scheduling with the addition of Oregon and Washington. With 18 teams it was set up perfectly for every team to have ONE protected rival. In this case it would be Michigan vs Ohio State. MSU is a Tier B rival for Michigan; I'd argue they're behind Notre Dame in terms of Michigan's rivals. There is absolutely zero reason to play this game every year, especially given MSU's attempts to injure Michigan players the last two years.

@@Jon.A.Scholt Michigan was always slotted to play OSU in its protected/rival game. There is no bigger rivalry in the land. The B1G powers then designated MSU to have its protected game/rival be UM. So its the reserve of what you have. Each team gets one annual rival game and UM seems to MSU biggest rival. Not the other way around. Makes sense when you think about it. Who else would MSU call a rival?

The only question I have is why they did not rule this as a targeting personal foul. It might not seem that significant, but if it is ruled targeting, he is automatically suspended for the first half of MSU's next game. Ruling it flagrant still ejects him, but there is no automatic suspension applied and any suspension would have to come from either the university or from the Big Ten (which I think should and will come).

Very good point, and by rule it is targeting - McGregor is considered defenseless by rule since the contact occurs when he is on the ground, and it's undeniable forcible contact to the head/neck area

Just released- The Big Ten Conference office announced today that Michigan State right tackle Spencer Brown has been suspended for half a game, under the conference’s Sportsmanship Policy, as a result of the actions that led to Mr. Brown’s ejection for a flagrant personal foul that occurred in a game against Michigan on October 21, 2023. Brown is ineligible to play in the first half of Michigan State’s next game against Minnesota on October 28, 2023. The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded.

My initial reaction was that Brown should not only be suspended by team but expelled from the University. However as horrific as that was, I think he is entitled to finish his education. The team though is a different matter, Michigan State's athletic department is the forerunner of charging Michigan with cheating. Well if you think stealing play signs is cause for NCAA discipline, what Brown's obvious attempt to seriously injure an opponent should warrant his dismissal from your team....this I feel strongly about.

This is worse than targeting. Targeting typically happens when a player is trying to tackle the ball carrier. This is deliberate, away from the play and the Michigan player was on the ground before the MSU player dove head first on him. He should be gone multiple games.

After 17 pulls 58's head down, 58 gets even by slapping 17 in the side of the head. If it ended there it would have been no big deal. But by lining 17 up and drilling him in the back of the head, yeah, absolutely needed to be ejected. Michigan State shouldn’t b allowed to play Michigan if they’re gonna do this shit every year. It should be an automatic forfeit until they remember they’re here for a sporting event & I’m saying this as an Ohio State fan so I have no problem watching Michigan players take hits when it’s legal
