A pretty unique finish because MSU actually hit almost all their FTs and only had 1 TO. Usually a team chokes the game away by missing FTs and turning it over because of the press. Iowa just couldn't miss at the end

Honestly, all things considered, MSU did enough to win 99.999% of the time. Going 7-8 from the line (or whatever it was) and 1 turnover in the last minute of the game when you're up around 10 points is usually more than enough. They weren't even playing that bad of defense. The Holy Spirit was clearly in Iowa at the end, because my goodness, it had to have been divine intervention with some of the shots they were hitting consecutively.

My dad went to U of M but whenever State plays someone who is Michigan we always root for the Spartans. Anyways, we were at a lunch place watching the game, there was 2 minutes left of regulation and we were just gonna watch till the game was done. I said “States up 10 this game is done.” We left the joint. Some time after we got home my dad broke the news that Iowa won. I was baffled.

I did something similar once. Michigan was beating State by 2 in football with 10 seconds left. Michigan had the ball and it was 4th down. I got up to leave so I could get home to watch my team (Ohio State) play, but my in laws (michigan fans) told me to sit back down. I said "the only way State can win is if they block this punt AND return it for a touchdown. This game is over." They didn't invite me over to watch football again until new years eve this year when I again assured them there was virtually no way Michigan could lose. So I don't think I have to worry about being invited over on a football day again anytime soon.

Hawkeyes simply got hot at the right time. A bitter pill made MUCH easier to take by the fact that Iowa played probably the best 90 seconds of basketball you'll see all year, regardless of whether it be in the college ranks or the NBA. Heck, I wanna see a NBA team score 23 points in 93 seconds! I bet NONE of the teams could pull that off right now! Spartans did all they could skill-wise but got beat by an amazing combination of good old skill and sheer luck. You mesh skill and luck like that and literally ANYTHING becomes possible. Mad props, Iowa... and this is coming from not a Spartans fan, but a Wolverines fan.

In 1993 Iowa rallied a 15 point deficit with 3 minutes to go to win in OT against MSU in the first game after Chris Street’s death. Here we are, just weeks after the 30th anniversary of Chris’ death, and the Hawkeyes pull off this miraculous comeback against MSU. Kris Murray, who's father Kenyon was on the 1993 team and is named after Chris Street, led the Hawkeyes with 26 points. The TV commentator on air as overtime began stated “somewhere someone pressed a button to make this happen.” I think we know who.

What are the odds both games went into overtime and the same team. This game was hard for me to believe. Even with video evidence, there is definitely a force, and things happen to really make you think beyond this reality. Thanks for sharing.

Michigan State didn't even do that much wrong. The one travel call but they made most of their free throws. Just unbelievable shooting and the ability to prolong the game.

@Doggy Conner McCaffery from Iowa is 92%+ Free Throw shooter and missed 4 at the end of the game if not for the lane violation where he got one. MSU was probably shooting better than they have all season from the 3. Look at Walkers numbers. Not a choke. A U of I rally and win.

To be fair, neither could MSU for most of the game; they finished with 59% FG, 73% from deep, and 86% FT. Iowa just happened to do it a bit better with far less time!

I know...at least recognize that they were hot from the 3, and foul them...that's how you cool off hot hands. Make them shoot FTs, while simultaneously slowing the game and their momentum down. Jeez, even I know that much. Everybody and their mother knew they needed 3s to have a chance, and Izzo did nothing to adjust.

At least this can be summed up by Iowa getting it done fair and square. Big Ten' Comeback of the Year, right here, and they EARNED it. Usually, you give up over 90 points in Men's College Basketball, you're getting beat by over 30 points. Instead, Iowa gives up over 90 points... AND WINS.
