@collegefootballwithsam I think Smith is the best coach in the big10, Ryan day has your thought but Ryan day can't win in big games he's like 1-5 or something vs top 5 opponents!
I’m probably looking at this through green-tinted glasses, but this is probably the first serious game where MSU’s defense doesn’t have to focus on the QB (running and/or passing) as the primary threat. Against Oregon, they definitely emptied the box to limit the passing threat, and Oregon was good enough to kill them on the ground. Ohio State was also so good that MSU had to choose its poison. Maryland, Boston College, and even FAU had QBs which were serious dual-threat guys, which had to be accounted for. I think MSU’s front 7 (or 6+1) is good enough to contain a run-first offense, as long as the passing threat is average or worse. So I don’t see Iowa putting Oregon numbers up on offense. I think the biggest question is MSU’s offense. If the O-line can create at least a respectable run threat (big “if”), and Chiles can limit turnovers (I’m pretty sure he’s on a good trajectory there), MSU can win this.
Hi Sam. A LOT has changed since you posted this video. I’m anxious to hear your thoughts about this game in hindsight and what you expect to happen Saturday in Ann Arbor. I watch your channel for your objectivity.
Salsa Index: Medium (An upset is possible, but far from likely) Michigan State seems to be battered and broken in the trenches, meanwhile, Iowa is progressively improving on both sides of the football as the season goes on. If Michigan State wins this game, it is because they play close to their ceiling, specifically winning the turnover battle.
Ohio State destroyed iowa 35 to 7. Michigan State has the horses to stop their running game and make McNamara beat them. He might, but that’s the way to go for sure.
And? MSU got destroyed by Ohio State 38-7 at home and it was over by halftime. Iowa went to the shoe and kept it a one score game until well into the 3rd. As for trying to stop the run game, you don't think that's the approach every team has had? OSU is the only one who's been able slow KJ down, and he still had almost 6 yards a carry.
Wow you missed on almost everything, tie on the turnover battle, besides one big run from k2 almost completely shut down Iowa. If we converted in the red zone a couple more times, we could’ve blown them out. The stats obviously go against msu, but they’ve played two top 5 teams and I wouldn’t count them out for the rest of the season a 7-8 win team all day
The only reason why they are in the big ten championship game, two out of the last three years cause they played in the worst division. Trust me, they weren't the second best team in the big 10. It was ohio state.
That’s insane Sam. I predicted on another channel that Iowa would win 33-13ish. We have to keep beating B1G Ten opponents by 20+ or better to look good in the eyes of the committee
All the trap concerns aside, Iowa is a vastly more experienced team. MSU’s quarterback has been an inaccurate turnover machine who makes poor decisions, which is a bad thing against a disciplined defense like Iowa’s. He is a good runner, though. Ostrenga is out for this game, by the way.
The last time we met you told me my Spartans would beat Boston College. Well they should have but they blew a big lead and was the start of a big slide backwards for the team. They were never going to beat OSU or Oregon but looked terrible after a strange first half against the Bucks.
saying east lansing is inconsistent is insane to me, ofc it hasn’t been the best the past couple years due to obvious reasons like not even having a head coach for most of last season, but if you look at even the osu game where they were losing by a decent amount, the fans definitely showed up this year
@@mjj11 I’ve been to east Lansing, when the team isn’t doing well the fans don’t show up as much. With it being a night game it will be better than normal
How can you call the washington iowa game dominating? Washington started outting in reserves at the start of the 4th quarter when the score was 23-10 and for some reason played like a scrimmage. Its like they were not even trying to score. Washington moved the ball on iowa at will almost the entire game. 😂
It's usually a competitive game when these two programs meet. Iowa is the more veteran team, while Sparty is inexperienced at some key positions. If MSU wants to win this game, they have to stop Kaleb Johnson and the Iowa run game, which is easier said than done. MSU is prone to making mistakes. I don't see them playing a clean game. Hawks get another conference road win. Iowa 27 MSU 13
would have held Johnson to 13 for 23 yards except the one time they let him get the edge and it was a 75 yard house call. Kicker scored as many points as your whole team.
This is the epitome of data without context. Iowa has played one legit team and got stomped at the same level we did. You get a faltering Washington after being on the road to Michigan and are now taking that as the new benchmark for performance. I see this as a -1.5 for Iowa, with their offensive strength matching up against our defensive strength. If we turn the ball over more than once we lose. If we don’t, we move the ball enough to win, have to protect in the red zone.
I don't believe Sparty has the OL to establish the run more importantly Iowas struggles more with spread offenses with athletes at QB and WR to go with a balance attack, Iowa should handle the sparty OL and this under center scheme should be pedestrian
Idk why it’s taken me this long, but just think Y A Black 😂. I see you tend to struggle with his name 😂. I know it’s spelled kinda weird, but just think 2 letters, Y and A 😅. Great show. Let’s go Hawkeyes!!!
@@colbyvlach1093 agreed. I just don't think it's right that the big 10 has 18 teams. And you only have a 9 game schedule. How do you have a true champion? We don't play nine of the other teams in your own league. Tell me how that makes sense. There are certain teams in this league. They don't even play Michigan. Ohio state Penn state or Oregon. Tell me how that's fair
You sounded smart when you read a bunch of stats for a half hour but then you said a year 1 HC who took a Mich st job is better than the 2nd all time B1G winning coach in his 26th season at Iowa with all the success (especially recent 2015 and later) he's had. Well to your point he didn't go for it on 4th and 1 on the road in a 1 score game in the first half. I get why you'd go for it and the results following that decision you'd make a different one but that isn't a terrible decision in the moment especially when he shows you he was going for it with a fake punt but at the last second chickened out. Come on man!
Here for the schadenfreude. This entire channel is just Sam smelling his own farts and loving the lispy sound of his own voice. Literal exact opposite result from what this dude predicted is what occurred. Go Green!
So michigans offense just played bad last year against iowa in the B10 championship?? yeah must be that. because it couldn’t be iowas defense was that good. nah michigan just had an oopsie that night huh? Michigan had a punt return for 6, and an absolutely atrocious call and spot of the ball that set them up on like the 7 yrd line. and ran it in. it was only field goals iowas defense really allowed.. iowa’s defense got zero help or relief to even catch their breath that night like most the season because of how awful the offense was. iowas defense has way more to do with harbaughs worst offensive game in his entire career as head coach at michigan.. to say michigans offense just played bad on the night of the big10 championship like it was all self inflected is fkn absurd or to even insinuate that was the case is bullsht
