----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW:
In a profoundly informative and deeply optimistic discussion, Professor Michio Kaku delivers a glimpse of where science will take us in the next hundred years, as warp drives, teleportation, inter-dimensional wormholes, and even time travel converge with our scientific understanding of physical reality. While firing up our imaginations about the future, he also presents a succinct history of physics to the present.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MICHIO KAKU:
Dr. Michio Kaku is the co-founder of string field theory, and is one of the most widely recognized scientists in the world today. He has written 4 New York Times Best Sellers, is the science correspondent for CBS This Morning and has hosted numerous science specials for BBC-TV, the Discovery/Science Channel. His radio show broadcasts to 100 radio stations every week. Dr. Kaku holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at the City College of New York (CUNY), where he has taught for over 25 years. He has also been a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Study as well as New York University (NYU).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRANSCRIPT:
My name is Professor Michio Kaku. I’m a professor of theoretical physics at the City University of New York and I specialize in something called string theory. I’m a physicist.
Some people ask me the question, “What has physics done for me lately? I mean, do I get better color television, do I get better internet reception with physics?” And the answer is yes. You see, physics is at the very foundation of matter and energy. We physicists invented the laser beam, we invented the transistor. We helped to create the first computer. We helped to construct the internet. We wrote the World Wide Web. In addition, we also helped to invent television, radio, radar, microwaves, not to mention MRI scans, PET scans, x-rays. In other words, almost everything you see in your living room, almost everything you see in a modern hospital, at some point or other, can be traced to a physicist.
Now, I got interested in physics when I was a child. When I was a child of eight, something happened to me that changed my life and I wanted to be part of this grand search for a theory of everything. When I was eight, a great scientist had just died. I still remember my elementary school teacher coming into the...

@robert punu Well actually. This gets explained in elementary/highschool level. The answer is gravity. The gas in a pressurized can is put there by a compressor - compressor uses fast moving parts or a great weight/force to usher in the gas into the container. Gasses kinda have a lot of space between molecules, so they can be shrunk in volume by applying force to them - such as by a compressor into a can. Now the more force is applied, by the third Newton's law, the more the gas presses against this force (equal and opposite reaction) so that's how you get pressure in a gas. The pressure that you name the pressurized can after. For the pressure to be kept at it's level, the walls of the can have to exert the same force on the gas that is in the can, otherwise the gas would expand back to it's original volume and there would be less pressure in the gas. Same as the compressor has to exert a little higher force on the gas so that the pressure increases. Now atmospheric pressure, the pressure that we can measure in our atmosphere is not caused by a compressor or a can, but it also is caused by a force pushing on it. The force is the weight of all the air above the point where we measure the pressure. Gravity pulls all that air towards the surface and so it creates a force that lowers the volume that the same amount of air takes thus creating pressure as in the above example of gas can. As you go higher and higher away from the surface of Earth, there is fewer and fewer air left above you and gravity force pushing on it also gets weaker so there is less and less pressure until at a certain point there is no pressure and no gas. There is no force acting on the air at the top of atmosphere that would push this air away from Earth and so it mostly stays and is not sucked anywhere else because nothing is pushing it or sucking it away. In detail there are very little forces pushing in different ways and very little force pulling back, so sometimes a little of the gas is lost, but that is negligible.

How crazy is it? One of the most enchanted videos on RU-vid that I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched it all the way till the end without any pauses. And I’m just a random guy from Vietnam with such little knowledge about physics that sometimes it’s hard to understand the balance of simple things. There are no words to express the joy of knowledge, right now, in my mind. My admiring and respectful salutes, professor.

I see Michio Kaku in bright colours, i really do like him. I think he's a great man, but... ...But he's sometimes, i don't know how to say that... 'too grounded': He seems to not really think enough of the Future, sometimes apparently assuming 21.Centure Technology is the Peak of Technology. And regardless of all that, he seems to be a bit too much into... Human Propaganda, if you get what i mean. He's too proud on current Science and its Level. He's not aware enough of how many assumptions Humankind makes in Science, how much they don't know. How small it all still is. I hope Michio Kaku keeps improving AND watches a bunch of Sci-Fi, namely Stargate, so he can get out of these shells and limitations, and do a bunch of Theorys. Yes, you read right. I said watches a bunch of Sci-Fi. I genuinly believe that's what would help him with his just mentioned 'problems'. And now I'm really going wild with my Hopes and ask: How awesome would it be to have THE Michio Kaku as a Science-Advisor for a new Sci-Fi-Series, maybe even Stargate itself?!?!?! Whoah, just thinking about it makes my head spin a bit, so i stop the comment here. Bye.

@pyropulse I think this whole concept is really cool. I think it answers a different question than the one I was looking for though, which is that everyone was somewhere this time yesterday, every object was somewhere, the planets in our solar system were somewhere yesterday and have moved since then, the cells in every living organisms body have changed since yesterday, but even though everything was a very specific way at a very specific point in time it will never be yesterday again. Entropy aside it still only moves in one direction, that sandcastle will never be rebuilt by a gust of wind but even if it had been it STILL would not be the same sand particles in the same location as yesterday, and even so every other thing in the universe has changed since then. But yeah, the probability of life being the exact way today as yesterday is beyond impossible, so we will only ever travel in one direction.
