Takes me back to being a child going to games with my Dad. Obsessed with football then Leeds fan but Channon was a massive personality then his accent kind of made him lovely to listen to. I bet he still calls Lineker Lin acre. Old school like my Dad was a grafter and never missed a days work. when he died they offered me compassionate leave but I said no my Dad would be furious if I used him as an excuse he was the best Dad but he hated wishy washy excuses. Loved his nights out and having fun but he would still frown at me at 55 if he thought I was not grafting or going home from the pub before the staff had started cleaning down. Mick and my Dad are a dying breed alpha males who dont understand wishy washy modern people pleasers.

At school in the seventies, l was always told to tuck my shirt in when playing football, l never did. I realised they couldn't grab your shirt and pull you down as you took them on, and so went on to score many, many goals. Always picked first for a team as well , l have Mick Channon to thank for that.😁

Sir mick channon well he is my book as been my altime saints favourite player I've stood for many happy hours at the dell watching my hero yes my hero . When I was so poorly my dear old dad bless him knew micks then mother in law and asked I'd mick could write me a letter to help me get better well he did and I've still got it and I'm 63 now and will never get rid of it. I've got one thing to say to sir mick thanks and I can still do the windmill and do when something great happens for me. If you were lucky enough to watch sir mick play you were so lucky like me

It's great to be able to hear from players of that era because at the time - here in Australia at least - you'd never hear a word from them. You just saw the football on tv and that was it; you'd grow to like certain players but you really knew nothing about them at all.

Great day’s watching you play for Norwich! Asked my Dad to have a bet on Norwich at 16/1 for the Milk Cup and of course we won! Happy Days 😊

Not sure that Mike's recollection of transfer fees here is accurate. He reckons that his £300,000 move to Man City in 1977 was a record, but from what I can gather, it seems that Stoke City signed Peter Shilton for £325,000 in 1974, and that Bob Latchford moved to Everton for £350,000 in the same year.

People rarely mention Mick Channon but he wasn't half good thinking about it. Then off he'd go with that windmill arm. He was a bit of a nutcase really.
