Both Mick and Eddie speak the truth. Eye watering sums of money are being siphoned out of public services that have been privatised, which has shifted the focus to paying the shareholders maximum dividends and bonuses, invariably untaxed, as opposed to actually providing decent services. This is not just about a truly realistic pay rise, it is about SAFETY.

In response to that opening question; many members have only lost a small amount of money. Network rail relies on overtime as it is, therefore many members are able to work some extra shifts to cover their losses on strike days. If network rail could really afford to cut jobs, they’d enforce an overtime ban. I don’t believe they’d be able to manage if they did this and the maintenance would fall heavily into backlog.

My Father was a Union Shop Steward and told me of his dealings with the boss at one company where the Workers hadn't had a pay rise in nearly 3 years. A meeting was arranged and All the Managers were there and representatives of the Workers through their Union, and the only person they were missing was the Boss himself. This Man kept the whole room of people waiting for him for well over and hour and my Father said the atmosphere in the room was not good. Finally he arrived, literally crashing the door open, stormed into the room and stood at the head of the table and shouted 'Give them Fucking Nothing', then turned round and stormed out, leaving the Managers open mouthed and the Union Rep's in shock. My Father was an Amateur Boxer and did National Service and he said he'd never wanted to kill somebody so much. This is the environment that the tories want to reintroduce, and tear up the hard fought rights that Working people have had to fight for. We need to kick the tories out NOW.

i'll tell you what, lower the ridiculous ticket prices (nearly £600 a month for me to get to work) and you'll encourage people back on the trains. all they do is hive off billions in dividends for wealthy investors - mostly foreign.

This is insane! In Madrid: Zone A (centre) was 56eur, now it's 28eur until the end of the year, the national socialist government reduced it... and then the Madrid conservative government reduced it even further! Look at a map of the Madrid Community: before these reductions in September, to travel around 70km using any more of transport across ALL the zones cost around 90 euros. Look at the zone map...if you buy a B1 card, for normally around 60eur a month, you can travel anywhere in Zones A and B1... then you have B2, C1, C2... they all let you travel on any mode of transport anywhere in the zones, any route, any time of day. The UK system is an effing disaster...I know, I remember Northern Spirit! Lol. Oh, and Bicimad, the bike rental for commuters: the Madrid conservative ruling chief is going to increase the number of bike stations and the number of bikes from 2000k to 7000k... this is what people vote conservative for here in Spain, these kinds of policies as well... oh, and planting trees...

The agenda that the mps show through their contorted manipulative questions says oh so much about their own self interests. And yet again Mick Lynch exposes their ineptitude so well. In an exercise in point scoring, which is the mps only interest, Mick wins every time.

The absolute worst thing here is the apparent lack of knowledge about any of this. I'm a spectator and I know what's happening but these people are our representatives and they've come to question someone for whom they clearly do not care for and with the most incredibly unqualified smugness. They're wasting Mick Lynch's time (not to mention the precious oxygen!) and he should not be having to sit there catching them in their own rhetorical traps. Fun as that may be. What we can see here is the death of conservative ideology. They haven't realised it's the end of the line. They have no escape clause that lets them nationalise things for the sake of the nation. They hold a minority view, that the government should take a backseat to the public services and leave them to the private sphere. What is clear is that no amount of evidence to the contrary can convince them. Not even the fact that even helping private businesses to thrive is proof that they can't without the state. And without the state providing a level playing field the private sector suffers too. As they actually can't do many of the things they claim to be able to do. Capita was a great example of that. This is ideology that is harmful. This belief in the made up economic theories of yesteryear.

I don't see the logic if a company is failing then pay the staff less. Either it's a viable businesss plan or it isn't, if it ism't then it either folds or becomes state owened - the benefits to the country outway the losses from the railways. Paying the staff less isn't an option.

I'm no way condoning the strikes but because of how our country is run everyone needs a huge pay rise to be at a comfortable position to live. I really think MPs across the whole of Parliament should take a massive pay cut, all they seem to do is bicker with eachother while our country goes to rack and ruin.
