When a man is alone in a dark room and it's safe to shed a tear, he whips this scene out. Dries his tears and hits the world back refreshed, because Mickey loved us.
never seen rocky- this shit cut me deep; made my cry- loseing the will to live; haveing that one person belive in you... yeh man i feel the same if you dont get emotional at this scean; you dont have a soul
This scene wrecks me every time. It's possibly the greatest in all of cinema history. Hits hard right in the center of my being. I will never stop being a fan of Rocky. My kids will grow up on these movies.
Your right, it's about life, life is a struggle & I have been down many times, but his movies, even songs or other films have a way of resonating with you when you least expect it & probably need it most. Sly put so much heart into his Rocky role, it's why I love the films. The matches are the by product, but it's what happens prior to the fights, then the fight in the ring when he fights that does reach me deep inside. I don't like the whole Rocky 5 movie, but there are parts that I do, like this scene, and other ones too in this film.
This speech had helped me a lot through the recent passing of my father. He was only 52. We loved the Rocky movies and this speech specifically. Hits much harder now.
I want you to know, you're not alone. My own father suffered depression in later life and growing up I felt he was angry all the time and I would stay out of his way as a late teenager. I don't think we ever really talked and one of the last conversations I had with him, I was angry. And I carried some regret about that. He died relatively young at 60, nearly 20 years ago and though I lost someone that protected me and loved me and life changed, I was never ever without him and still am not and if there's one thing to look forward to in later life, its reuniting again. So I say to you, stranger, he'll always be with you, keep fighting.
May happiness and love never find you forgotten. And may you never forget happiness and love. Mickey loves us. We're not done fighting, until we're done fighting. "I didn't hear no bell!"
My Grandfather stepped in for my biological father. And let me tell you; I will always be grateful to call him my Father even if it was for a short amount of time. Even if his time was short with me, it meant so much more than I could have ever imagined. RIP Rafael Sanchez Cortez.
Yes...the best movies I ever seen ...it's somewhat how hard life was for him...and now he tells the whole world that the only way to stand up is to keep fighting
This scene was inspired by an interview of Cus D’Amato talking about the young and uprising Mike Tyson and it’s delivered just as emotionally. Outstanding performance
Yeah I would say Cus D'Amato got it off of the Rocky movie being this movie was out before he trained Mike Tyson. Either way it's inspirational will live on for eternity.
A challenging and loving father figure. Every boy needs one. And every man needs one to remember, whether it's his own father, or another man who steps to fulfill that role whenever a boy or a man needs it. "YOU were the angel." Tears in my eyes. Burgess Meredith was one of the greatest actors ever. No wonder Sly Stallone chose him to portray Mickey.
In Rocky 3, apollo taught us that, when you loose everything, you gotta go back to the beginning and try again even harder... In Rocky 5, Mickey taught us that we need something to motivate us when life gets hard... In Rocky 6, Rocky taught us that excuses are for the weak and life is about how much crap we can take and still keep moving ahead... Rocky movies = lessons for life!! Listen and you will learn.
I must have seen this more than 12 times, but still it makes me weep. Mickey reminds me of my grandad, tough as nails but sweet at heart. Rip both of you. Xx
When I watched this scene as a kid when it came out, I never paid attention to this scene. Now this hits too close to home. So much wisdom delivered. Burgess Meredith, thank you.
Subconsciously these movies and scenes like this one are all about life, that's why we love them because they makes us feel our true self instead of the masks we put on. Love to all, keep your chin up:)
dude, I know what you're talking about. these action flicks just generate such violent adrenaline responses that flush my face enough for my eyes to water, only sometimes. it could be the Bill Conti. but it's different than the end scene of Rambo "you just don't turn it off", that time it was the poor lighting that irritated my eyes enough for them to water, just a bit.
@@hoppyandhisholidayhelpers1714 the scene between Paulie and Rock in the Rocky Balboa movie where they're talking about Adrian dying gets to me everytime, when Rocky says he has a beast inside him, man...
@@danielmonroe6839 Yeah, glad sly did a 6th rocky on his own cause apart from this scene rocky 5 sucked in all manners. The speech in 6 is damn fire and works pretty well again when rocky is down in the ring for a moment
This, ladies and gentlemen... THIS is what REAL acting looks like. God bless you Burgess, you make me cry every time I watch this, you make me feel human. And god bless you too, Sly, for creating such a real and emotional character. Amazing clip...
As someone whose lost a father and a grandfather like many of you I'm sure, there's something about this scene that both connects me too them and fills me with love but also absolutely breaks my heart at the same time. My father used to always weep to this scene when we watched it together when I was a kid. I never really understood why as a child. Now I understand.
I didn’t get as far as u. My father and grandfather died before I was 7. My father died with cancer and I really don’t remember a motivation speech from my father. He died with cancer. I’d like to think his speeches were as good as Mickeys.
I may be in the minority but my grandma was my mickey. She was there at the beginning with teaching me how to read and write, she was there when I got in trouble, she was there for my wedding and the birth of my first kid. She said her own version of Mickeys pep talk. She been gone now for two years and I cry every time I watch this. RIP Grandma
My Grandfather was Chairman of the World Boxing Association from 1962-66 and Louisiana State Boxing 🥊 Commission until his death 4 days after the “no mas” fight in New Orleans in 1980. He trained, managed and was around Boxing his entire life. I was 8 when he died. He left a huge impact on me! Mickey in many ways reminds me of him. I’ve tried to live my life in a way that would make him proud. I watch this video whenever I’m down and it makes me get up and fight! Love you PaPa!
Will always hold Sly in high regard. His writing across all the Rocky films is like life's playbook filled with nuggets of practical wisdom. The theme that stands out for me is self -belief, and having some one that believes in you.
My grandfather and I used to watch this movie together I was like rocky to him and he was like Micky to me on December 21 I saw my grandfather for the last time on this earth when he died I was actually crying and I didn't want to show it every movie I watched was with him my grandfather to me was the real life Micky to me he took care of me when I was growing up he gave me a mexican coin to say I love you I have the coin still and when it's my time to go ill give it to my grandchild and say the words that my grandfather and micky said I miss my grandfather and this made me cry thank you for the memories😭😭
Sorry for your loss brother, losing someone close to you is always hard but we gotta keep on moving. They will continue on living as long as we are alive and remember them
I am so sorry...tears are rolling down my cheeks reading your tribute. You are a better person because of him, and you can replay the wonderful memories anytime you want. Don't EVER forget.
That was the most heartwarming scene of all time. Mickey was to Rocky a true father figure in a way. He taught him everything he need to know inside and outside the ring and in life in general. I shed a tear everytime when i see that scene. I love you too RIP Burgess Meredith
yep he straightens him out and the line about taking care of himself outside the ring .before he was a loan shark once he started boxing he became legit and was able to stay that way .mickey always so the potential in rocky which he felt rock was throwing away working as a thumb breaker
I love this scene plus the fight with Tommy gun when rocky is down and mickey is saying get up i didn't hear no bell get up you son of a bitch Cos mickey loves yi
Undoubtedly the best scene in Rocky V. Sure, it’s the weakest instalment in the series, but this scene is one of the best and most memorable in the history of the Rocky franchise.
This scene is epic. And why I watch Rocky time and time again. Reminds me of my grand pop. RIP, grand pop. You're guidance and unwavering toughness made this South Jersey boy's military career as a Green Beret successful. Our nation also owes you a debt of gratitude.
I've never had anyone to motivate me this way. Everything i learned was the hard way and on my own. Life keeps knocking me down and I just get back up. I stumble but when I get my footing again I come back fighting harder than before. I will not give up !
Mickey is the grandfather you had. He's also the grandfather you never had. The grandfather you wished you knew. Damn, this scene hits right to the soul.
Maybe that's what my dad felt like after he had his stroke. I was his caregiver but maybe I didn't understand enough...though he was a fighter. He lived 3 years after a massive stroke and he preserved! Love you Dad and miss you. Lori
I have never really paid attention to the music in this scene, but I agree with you after listening to it. Having watched this scene so many times I was always focused on what Rocky was doing and the conversation between he and Micky. The music just slowly floats in, especially after you hear Rock hit the bag a few times. I hope you find your Mick.
My father, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Malcom X, Muhammad Ali, and Rocky. My heroes. It’s amazing how Rocky is the only one that is not a real person. That’s how special Rocky is.
I think it's why Rocky said the lines in this film, because it was so heart warning. It's why they probabaly wrote it into the script. So glad they did because love this scene.
@@ruiyan4884 that's right and the documentary on Tyson was also made before his Pro career started. I think it was about 1982 or 1983. Tyson was 15 or 16.
Life is tough. We get attacked by demons that we don’t even know are there. It gets hard to get out of bed sometimes. Still, God gave us angels like Mick. Even if it’s wisdom through a movie scene. Keep fighting. Keep moving forward. Never quit no matter what anyone says. You get knocked down get back up. Chin up and chest out. NEVER QUIT
Amazing scene. I remember watching the opening credits of Rocky 5 and seeing Burgess Meredith’s name. How could that be? Mickey died in Rocky 3! But the touching flashback scene he filmed for this movie was certainly the highlight.
Most under rated line in the entire series. It goes back to Rocky 1 when Rocky said that he ‘didn’t want to be just another bum from the neighborhood’.
Hands down the most motivational speech ever. Got a fight in a few weeks and I play this over n over. A tear rolls down my face n I think of my family then I think of the win. Thank you for the rocky movies
I'm only 49 but the last few days I've been feeling like Mickey. No parents, no family, what am I doing here? Fuck. The last time I watched this movie I was young and I sure af did not have any idea what Mickey meant beyond the words. Now I understand.
As a man that has lived it rough and Is now doing well. Lately been feeling knocked down and embarrassed and felt like watching this today. “Get up you Son of a bitch!!” Cus Mickey (Angel) loves you..
Makes me realize/recognize all of the “Angels” in my life. My Parents, guardians and caretakers......the people who carried me when I couldn’t fend for myself. Forever grateful.
I watch this at least twice a week if possible. Keeps me going when sometimes I don’t feel like keeping on going.. Getting old sucks, but if only we all had a Mic on our shoulder.
Boxing truly is the best metaphor for life. You take so many punches along the way (loved ones dying, friends disappearing, financial troubles, healthetc...) , and you get the point where you ask yourself "Why continue fighting, taking a beating". I think most of us continue on, hoping we land that one big punch that will turn it all around.
STALLONE HAD...Some of the greatest writers help him with real life lessons that are honestly true and hard to put into words....What Mickey said is so true ..When you get older, if you have no purpose in life, why even continue living....ALSO in The Balboa movie was another true to life quote where he talks to his son on how winning is done...BRAVO
