I will never forget The Mickey Mouse Club and the impact that it had on kids of my generation. Excerpts from that show now serve only as a visual time capsule of a bygone era. Memories of being a kid in the 50s and running home from school to see The Mickey Mouse Club are bittersweet now. An innocent and wonderful time in my life.

I remember watching after school in the mid 1970’s and LOVELOVELOVED watching at the neighbors house with the kids in the neighborhood. Even that era had its charm. I wish there was innocence like this now for the generations to come because what I see on my Netflix when my 4 year old granddaughter visits and asks to watch, is just awful!! I have to turn most of it off. Our generations were blessed!! I wish this would become the norm again.

Thank you for posting this. I watch the Mickey Mouse Club in syndication when it was rereleased in the mid 1970's. I remember I was 11 at the time. Loved watching this every afternoon. But looking back at these old clips, it's quite obvious that the mouseketeers were dancers that could sing. They were obviously cast first for their choreographic abilities. when they sang as a group, there was little or no harmonization and could sometimes sound like they were shouting which happens when a group is always singing in unison. But I still have fond memories of watching the reruns.

Annette wasted away from MS and of course, Dennis' body just found. This and original American Bandstand in Philadelphia are fond childhood memories!

So fun to see this! I was such a loyal fan when this was on, tuned in every single day it showed. Over the years I had a busy studio singing career and did a lot of TV during the 60s when there were musical variety shows. Tommy Coke hung up his Mousca-ears for makeup and was a very good makeup man. I always asked for him. Nice guy too. Good memories

There was a young man by the name of Elvis Presley who was taking over the music scene by this point. Walt struggled with realizing the values of the guitar's potential to fit in with pop music. The decision for some Michael Eisner and Bob Iger era Disney films to use Elvis music showed they didn't really fit in with Disney.

Talented kids. The only thing that makes it look socially dated is that it was relentlessly whitebread, and (as in this segment) played needlessly to thoughtless ethnic stereotypes. A product of the times. Parenthetically, "Dennis" was Dennis Day (not the Jack Benny singer), who was an entertainment director at the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire, ca. 1980. The only Mouseketeer I ever met.
@miltonsmith974
@miltonsmith974 5 лет назад
Looking "socially dated" and "a product of the times" are insightful and appropriate terms that you chose to use. But we all need to be careful not to imply something that may not be true. The fact that all the kids were "white" shouldn't automatically stigmatize those associated with the show as being some sort of "racists." Not implying that you're saying that (I don't think that you are) but some do. It was a different day back then, and having the show consisting only of white kids does not mean everyone related to the show purposely ostracized kids of other races; the thought of having the cast racially mixed probably never occurred to them. Just wasn't a major point of emphasis back then. Not saying that was right, just saying that what is emphasized today was not being emphasize 60 years ago. Simply put, I don't think that some sort of maliciously planned "racism" came into play when the casting of the kids took place. If it turns our that I am wrong, my apologies. By the way, kids of other races would be featured on the show later on (generally on "Talent Roundup Day"). Perhaps lessons were being learned. Proper change always takes time.
