Jess L hey jess! i would rec putting the skewers in and letting it dry for a week, i usually lie it down flat for it to dry. you can lie it down on a bunch of paper towels (bunch it up so it's like a pillow) so the paper towels supports it up without flattening the back of it, or if you have something soft like a sponge, that works too. if you leave it out to dry without the skewers in, when you push the skewers right before you put it onto the cake, it might be too late, it can crack the figurine. i know bakers like to put the skewers in, and poke it into a styrofoam block for it to dry, i too have the same fear of it breaking when i pull it back out, to prevent it from breaking, don't pull on the figurine, pull on the skewer, so i would pull it up a tiny bit, once i see a bit of skewer showing at the bottom, i use pliers and hold the skewer only, and pull it up, so the force is on the skewer and not the figurine. if your figurine is very delicate/skinny, i would rec letting it dry lying down like the first method i mentioned :). hope i didnt' sound too confusing!
