Rugged treks are actually super quiet for as aggressive as they are. This video was entirely the speculative opinion of the narrator based on looks alone with no actual testing 👎🏽
Rugged Treks are outstanding off road and in the snow or mud. I was surprised how quiet they are. There is a slight humming, but the ride is smooth and they handle well in all conditions. Absolutely best tire I've ever bought.
Just to update people. The cooper is 3 peak rated (certain sizes), I have a set. I work pipeline construction and see a lot of different driving conditions and they’re holding up. They hum at highway speed for about the first 2,000 miles. But they’re pretty quiet now or maybe I just got used to them. Overall, I’m pretty happy with them.
@@12ValveJalopy it's size dependent. The 285/70/17 are not 3pmsf, for whatever reason. Seems like they're missing the boat there... at discount tire the baja boss are about the same price, so i'm just gonna go with them.
I emailed them about the Rugged Trek having it, which they replied with a “no.” Surprised and not surprised. They both look roughly similar, but the Mickey Thompson definitely has more siping, which makes sense with it having the 3PMS.
Mickey Thompson tires manufactuerd by Cooper now owned by Goodyear. The the Three Peak Snow Flake tire rating is for tires with rubber compounds suited for temperatures below 40F. Not so good in hot climates. I've run Cooper AT3s, AT3 XLTs, ST Max, and Cooper Pros. Best all around tire for a daily driver is the AT3. Cold weather AT3 4S.
@@Freemarkets1236 I work construction and do alot of hiway miles. I needed a tire that last on the hiway but can go offroad on weekends. Cooper AT3s 60K mileage rating . Ran these on my Tacoma and now on my Colorado.
I’ve really enjoyed the Mickey T ATZ/P3 that I’ve run for the past 60,000miles. They’ve been great. Such a shame to hear that they are being phased out..
I've been running Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT's on my 2004 FX4 for over 3.5 years and they still look practically new after 40,000 miles. Cooper makes great tires.
Just got a set of the Cooper Rugged Trek , for My Diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee, there actually surprisingly quite on pavement havent tested them yet to much in the mud/snow yet tho
baja boss on my second gen dodge diesel, by far the best all around tire I have ever had, between offroad use and road use. cannot speak on wear yet though. And I have had at least 4 different tires. They tow great too which shocked me
I have a 2024 Wrangler Rubicon X with XR package. It has the BFG KO2s on it. Those tires suck in the snow and ice here in Colorado. They are three peak rated. It should be three dog turd rated. Are there other three peak tires you might recommend along with the Mickeys? Thank you for detailed videos and insight.
Just got the Baja Boss this week coming off of BFG Ko2. So far I've noticed they are louder than the BFG. Have to find the right air pressure, they felt skittish on the highway on a windy day. I wanted a newer design tire with newer rubber compound and the 3 peak was important for me. They balanced well, but did require a decent amount of weights, I can feel the additional weight over the BFG in the drive train and my front bearing started to make noise.. They look great, but still trying to dial in. So far so good.
Somebody just said on another video they were quitter than KO2. What do you drive? I recently bought a Tundra with KO2's and want something different, but if these are louder and skittish I'll probably just stick with what works.
I have a set of cooper rugged treks on my ‘15 Titan, performs amazing offroad, doesn’t make much road noise. Before the rugged treks I had a set of some street tires (also coopers, I forget which kind), I didn’t notice any difference in ride quality even at high speeds. In my opinion, the rugged treks get a 9/10. Highly recommend them and im super happy with them
I notice that my rugged trek are better on deep snow, sand, mud and not that great of traction in slippery wet snow. My old tires wild peak at3 doesn't slide on slippery wet snow
The Mickeys on the Mickey Thompson website are said to be an Extreme Hybrid All Terrain. I had placed an order for them, but some BFG KM3s came in first. Surprisingly the Mickeys for 37x12.5r17 was 80lbs. The 39x13.5r17 km3 are 89lbs, so I just went that route.
The mickeys would’ve been the better choice. I’ve experienced both tires. Depends on driving conditions but in the soft sand/ winter conditions the mickeys shine.
Bought the Baja Boss 16,000 mules ago. They ride quiet, no rumble, and unstoppable. Not much snow last winter in southern Idaho but crunched over what we had. Dirt and grafel roads were no challege. Just killed 2 mpgs off my mileage. Ill go to something less agressive less aggressive next time. Thought i would visit Monument Valley and New Mexico deserts tbis summer but still havent done so.
Cooper load range E 10 ply works good you do not want close group so you throw the mud out or off so it don't ball up plus I'm your paying 20 dollars more for a name Thorneberg made a good off road tire the bf good wrench at and Mt great tires the Michelin made good military tires not a fan of good year mt had a set of cooper's on my 2017 Chevy z71 good tires held up great until the front wheel feel off but other than that great tires lol but they did not go flat just a driver mistake I think
A lot of people don't know I didn't know until just a while back that Cooper tires makes Mickey Thompsons and that Goodyear Tire company bought Cooper tires so essentially it's all good year
That’s about 2 hours here. It only takes one inch here and every one is running all in the ditches. They all panic leave work and everything starts closing and everyone starts buying all the milk and bread up similar to the toilet paper in the early covid months.
Great review as always Josh. I especially like the new Baja Boss AT. They’re already sold out in my size though-37 x12.5 x 17. Hopefully you’ll be able to restock them soon. I’m also interested in the Maxxis Razr AT; I’m curious what you think of those tires, and if you would ever review them or carry them in your warehouse? Thanks so much.
Look on the bright side they make them in the size you want neither Mickey or Cooper make those tires in 315/75r16 and I really don't want 17in wheels lol
Really would like a set of the cooper. Looks like they just converted the mastercraft cxt over to the cooper name, the cxt was a GREAT tire. Hopefully they expand the sizing soon
Ahh yeah I see the only 2 options we have close enough to those specs are these! www.trailbuiltoffroad.com/store/tires?sort=popular&year=2019&make=Toyota&model=4Runner&drive=4WD&DRChassisID=25784&vehicle_type=Truck&width_from=285&ratio_from=75&brand=Mickey%20Thompson&tmodel=Baja%20Boss%20A%2FT*Baja%20Boss%20MT&saleToggle=0&qdToggle=0 Maybe sometime in the near future we could see those sizes available!
I wish the Baja boss AT came in a 40. I know, the MT will be pretty capable. But I want a tire that isn't gonna give me a fine while driving in the snow on the highway
I see the Baja Boss MT's are available in those specs otherwise the Baja Legend is available in those specs! www.trailbuiltoffroad.com/store/tires?sort=popular&diameter_from=16&width_from=315&ratio_from=75&brand=Mickey%20Thompson&saleToggle=0&qdToggle=0
I just had a set of these installed. On the road, they're "louder" than my Hankook Dynapro AT2 tires were at lower speeds, but not loud at all. My 275/60R20 is 3PMSF rated.
The Mickey Thompsons look like they might be Directional . LHS type and RHS type . I assess that from looking at the Centre Blocks . They are assymetrical .
I’m running rugged trek tires on company work truck - surprised how quiet they were in comparison to the old set of st maxx coopers that they replace - first week of like they spent in rain -drizzle- mud cliche - sleet and drizzle -on and off gravel roads- and they just handle it all- considering them for my f250
Per the website, XL models are 3-peak rated. However, that rating is only for snow and has nothing to do with braking or corning in snow. Not really a big deal. However, some states require the rating for some mountain passes.
Both are great tires. Great comparison 😁👍. I used M.T. on my 1/4 Mile Fox Body Mustang for slicks, they have a long history of great tires. Cooper makes good tires but I think M.T. is on a different level altogether.
@@Icutmetal It doesn't matter who makes them, what matters is the end product. Mickey Thompson tires are better tires. Chinese Companies also make a lot of American Brand Tires but the tires that are made in USA are always better, same concept.
@@Icutmetal Daimler (Mercedes) and Chrysler are together aren't they ? Lexus and Toyota are together aren't they ? Do they make the same cars ? Do they cost the same price ? Are the qualities different between Dodge Chrysler and Mercedes? Are the qualities different or the same between Lexus and Toyota ? Or do you still not get what I'm trying to say ?
Josh. Great informative videos on tires. I've watched a number of them and just subscribed to your channel. Question: I read the Cooper Rugged Trek only has a two ply sidewall construction. Is that just on SL, C or D rated tires, or a two ply sidewall on all Rugged Treks. Thanks.
I have the Cooper Rugged Trek on my truck and love them. They are actually pretty quiet going down the highway at 75 mph and handle wet roads and rain very well.
Mel, I’m interested in the Rugged Trek but curious about the road noise. You mentioned they are quiet, would you please let me know what they are quiet compared to? TIA
@@patrickogrady9046 Compared to other tires i have had over the years Mastercraft A/T & M/T, Toyo A/T, & Goodyear Duratrac. I have an 2019 F-250 & with my radio on i don't notice any road noise. That's just my experience with them so far as i have only had them for 3 weeks and put roughly 600 miles on them.
Is it possible for you guys to make a video talking about which all terrain tires are the truest to size? I’m looking to get 33x12.50 R 22 and I want to get the least stretch possible
Thanks for the video, I have a new 2022 ram 2500 with air ride rear suspension, come spring time I tow seven days a week for about four months and I’m on a lot of ranch properties sometimes I need good traction in the dirt but I also like driving the truck when work slows down as a daily driver I’m not really using it for off Roading because I have a jeep for that, looking for a good looking tire on my truck that won’t take away the comfort of driving while not towing, I need a good weight carrying tire but since I have a 3 1/4 inch lift on the front and 2 inch on the rear I’m looking for something that adds to my truck if this makes any sense, I like the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss a T I also like the Cooper and I’m having a tough time debating or if there’s something else on the market, i used to always get Toyo but they’re mud terrain‘s are good for towing but they pull to the right and I don’t like that so looking for something aggressive looking but with quality ride maybe I’m asking for too much?
Just want to start by saying I am jealous of your 2022 2500 man! With that being said the Baja Boss AT's are a solid option. Have you heard or taken a look at either the KO2's or the Klever AT's from Kenda? Those might fit for the driving you are looking to do!
Are the Cooper tires any better than in the past for being balanced? I'm a big fan of Cooper but my last set of AT3s had a bunch of counter balance weights on them.
@@Icutmetal he said a choice between the 2. I answered from my experience. He's more then welcome to ask in more detail but I'm not gonna waste a lot of time unless he's showing interest. You're more then welcome to then since you're emplying....
@@olinshea they are everything I wanted. Slightly more road noise then the very plain stock tires but very worth the tradeoff. They feel great on the highway and even got to take them on some fire roads. I highly recommend, UT I've only had them on for a few weeks. I'll keep you upgated
I ended up going with the Hankook Dynapro XT. They have they had M+S and 3-peak, you never hear about those here. Great on the farm in pure sticky mud in the fields and on gravel roads they don't pickup rocks. Yet they handle great on road.
I think select sizes are 3peak. I’ve been trying to figure out which ones have the rating. Probably call Cooper. What size are yours that have the 3peak?
I’ve had both of these tyres. I could not wait to get rid of the Mickey Thompson’s because they constantly let go in the wet, and the Cooper at3’s did not last anywhere the claimed mileage. I have gone to the Maxxis razr. I’ll see how they go
@@kevinstarski1598 so far so good . Quiet on the black top. Hang on in the corners. Drove up a 30 degree slope in 2 wheel drive. The coopers would not do that. Mud test coming up.
@@davidwarren4569 Wonder about Cooper R/T...But it looks like they are not into thicker sidewalls like 75...new Falken R'T look odd in the middle...I will look up the Maxxis
I've had KO2S, Falken wildpeak and Mickey Thompson, by far KO2S are terrible on wet pavement. The Mickey Thompsons started great, but after 10,000 miles they are slipping on wet pavement. The Falken wildpeak was great all arround tire, they just worn down a little fast for what I paid. Those coppers are looking good or I may tire the Falken wildpeak at4 redesigned Tire, just need a tire that can handle Alabama crazy weather, construction sites and steep pavement heels when wet.
Had these tires put on my 4runner on 8/21/2021. They have the 3pmsf rating now, at least in the stock 265/70/17 size. So far so good. Had a little bit of balance issue with one tire between 52-67mph, but kinda expected it on AT’s. Thankfully it was only one, and just needed to be rebalanced, no road force balance required. Worse case scenario, could go with balance beads. Good looking tire, road noise is very minimal. Cornering, and braking on roads are just as predictable as before. Anxious to see how they are during Colorado winters.
@@erik3079 how’s the road noise after having these for a year? I’m wanting to pull the trigger on them but I don’t wants anything that’s loud as 80% of my driving is highway/city
@@philbradley2105 they aren’t too bad. Quiet off the bat, pick up some noise after a few thousand miles as can be expected from an all terrain. Mine are probably the noisiest at 50-55 mph. Once I’m above that it isn’t bad or anywhere near as loud as mud terrains.
Best tire ive ever had on a 4x4. Excellent wet and ice traction for a large lug design and stone quiet on dry pavement. The grip on snow is surprisingly good, you actually have to push into the throttle the get them to break free. I'm running a 2014 Nissan Titan Pro4X. I can see myself buying a second set when these wear out.
