Micro Blogging with JS8Call - Proof of Concept

Julian (OH8STN) recently posted a video proposing using radio to distribute blog posts, or micro blogs as he calls them - see • Off Grid Ham Radio Mic... . This seems a great idea, and I decided to try a simple Proof of Concept using a small Python script and JS8Call as the delivery mechanism. This video records what I did, what I found and the conclusions I reached.

Love this concept! I'm just working through the videos. When I first saw this topic the Microblog title didn't catch my attention as I'm not into that realm, but from a disaster response viewpoint this is a SITREP function. Definitely will take this to the next level!

This will actually get me to use digital modes in earnest. I have put them on the back burner for quite a while. I could possibly carry two qrp radio sets, one for voice and one for digital. The 705 would be a good candidate for this.

We just got a 705 and the Icom tuner. As soon as Texas here in the US finally get above freezing again we will check it out in a park setting. The kids are also building some Qrplabs and the tr usdx kits so we will see if we can integrate them.
