Micro Campervan Antics! An unplanned UK van life road trip

Since the last UK van life road trip episode, I decided being by the sea was definitely a good thing. So I take my VW Caddy maxi micro campervan further south for some 'hopefully' scenic stealth camping. But I'm not ready to go home just yet so I headed to the opposite end of the country!
A spot of stealth camping, campervan cooking, drone flying, and an evening with Josie. I had a great time and this was a successful leg of the journey!

Adz, try changing the usb lead from the controller to your phone to an aftermarket one. You should get less to no disconnects. I had the same problem with my Mini.

Thanks! Although I think it’s an issue with the rth feature. It’s when it loses signal, that feature doesn’t kick in. It’s due a firmware update though so I’ll try that. I mean I think I’m due a new drone at some point so if she does disappear for good then at least that’s a reason to haha

I'm still tempted by the Caddy Maxi option, rather than the bigger Transporter or equivalent. Ooh the agony of choice. 14:06 Why everyone should have emergency ear protection, ear plugs or one of those thingies that's like a sports headband but is a) blackouts for your eyes and b) sound deadening. Never leave home without it! 🙂

I didn’t know you could get sound deadening versions of those! I’m going to take a look at the options. As for the van size it’s a difficult choice and I guess comes down to what you’d use it for and how often. I’m thinking I need a bigger van now. Mainly for clothes storage and to have a fixed bed. Because I feel like mine is only going to work for short trips, and I want to start going on much longer trips. But for some situations the caddy maxi is all I need

I have had vans all my life. Learnt to drive in one. Own a t5 for 8 years now if your repair budget is no problem get one for extra space but not cheap to buy or run. Even though I drive mine as like an undertaker stuff still breaks. I have driven a caddy not bad and I believe most of running gear is off ither a Touran or golf so cheap to repair. Everything is buried deep in the engine compartment of t5 so higher labour cost. Don’t get tailgators in t5 get them in the caddy. Get as big as u can afford that will fit in a parking space 👍👍

@@daddyfixit5188 Nice one bud. Thing is, I'm a single bloke and pretty low maintenance so tbh probs don't need too much space. Go to the odd festival and weekend away. Might be job for a caddy. Did think about using a van as a mobile office as I'm an IT worker and rarely need to be near an office, so theoretically could be anywhere as long as I have a mobile signal 😎

@@IainFrame how long u gonna b single for 😁 get the bigger van talk to a good accountant see how much you can offset as a work place. As long as you add to the van it will b an asset even if u insulate and ply line fluffy stuff few lights basic bed and removable cooking area so u only cook inside when u have to. 6 ft plus u will struggle even lying straight in a caddy 👍👍👍👍

A new born guinea pig! Lol! Seriously though..I built a camper although mine is smaller..a lot smaller than yours. How do you cope with condensation? Is it even an issue in your van?

They were some loud Guinea pigs! 😂 and I don’t really have an issue with it. Occasionally there’s a bit on the edge of the back doors. And sometimes the windscreen has it, but sometimes it doesn’t. I do have the front 2 windows open a tiny bit, and there’s a small extractor fan on the roof but k don’t usually turn that on now. It still lets air through it though

I’m sure it’s a scientific term haha. And I picked my projector because it has horizontal keystone correction. Most only have vertical keystone correction so they need to be placed directly in front of the screen. There’s a link in the description to my one if you wanted to check it out

I have yeah, that was actually the original idea I had for the motorhome trip but I didn’t want to put that many miles on their motorhome. I’ll do that soon though!
