I can't believe I finally found it! The nostalgia plus the fact that I didn't realize how absurdly goofy it was as a kid is going to make this so fun to rewatch.
My father did the audio engineering for this dub. My mother and my father and my uncle and all of their friends did the voices. I love this movie! Something to consider is that all of the voice actors were inspired by American cartoons rather than japanese cartoons
When I was younger my parents rented this movie for me from Blockbuster, because I asked for something with robots in it. I remember back then that I loved this movie, and thought it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my young life. Since I was maybe 4 or 5, I never remember the name of this movie. It's only thanks to the internet that I've rediscovered this movie, and wow is this shit! Man young me was an idiot (probably still am).
BBmetalhead04 Dont worry, you are not. That also happened to me when I was younger, and now I discovered that movies such as these are nothing but absolute shit.
Same experience :D I just discovered it on YT for nostalgia sake. I remember as a kid I thought it was the best thing ever, I used to borrow the VHS from my neighbor every weekend. It had guns and robots and he shoots the bad guy, omg and they transform, I was in heaven ( big fan of the power rangers ) Thank god I did not understand English at 7-8, I also think it was translated. Tried to watch it now, could not go through it XD Had to skip most of it XD My god the voice acting is terrible...
Heh, I remember I visited some friends in USSR when I wuz 5 yearz old. They had a VHS player, and this wuz one of their cartoonz. It made no sense back then either, but hell, I enjoyed it. Oh da memoriez...
LOL, when I wuz 5 yearz old, I went for the USSR for a week to visit our friendz there, an' they had 4 cartoonz for their video player, this wuz one of them. It never really troubled me that this had so low quality an' the storyline doesn't make sense, I kinda enjoyed it. I wuz lookin' for this for a decade until I found it. Oh da memoriez! BTW, I have the Hungarian version, the dub and the theme song is a trillion times better than the English one.
Things you will learn while watching Diatron-5: - All of Earth's defenses depends on an unusually intelligent teenage girl with no name. This is advertized and everyone knows it. - Humans have entire societies with castles and ancient cultures living inside their bodies - We have glands that produce strawberry ice cream. No, not pinkish blood, honest to god strawberry ice cream. - Today I saw a screaming harpy share a 50 Shades moment with a Barney-voiced robot - Shrink rays sound like someone playing ping pong in an echo chamber. - "Let's see who you really are" Scooby Doo reveals don't have the same effect if no one has any idea who the revealed person is. - Dr. Beeeaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is having none of your shit. - Those outer space fight scenes in Macross and Gundam would be SO MUCH BETTER if they had music box songs playing over them. This movie made me physically ill. I don't know if it's the animation frame rate, the hideous color pallet, the nauseating sound design, or the story which seems to stubbornly defy any kind of logical flow. YOU decide!
I got the DVD in a dollar bin 11 years ago. My friends and I would watch it and find something new and funny each time. Being drunk helps. The British accents dub is the funniest.
I don’t think Hosca was responsible for making this film, they just bought the rights to dub it and distribute it on VHS 📼 Hosca was also responsible for dubbing fairy tale Anime around the time Dia-Tron 5 too,but that’s about it.
Micro-Commando Diatron-5 is one of those films that comes to define a generation; the apex of an era's collective artistic and cultural development. Even so, its status as an expression of contemporary mores stands as a unique glimpse into an even more unique age: a time where human consciousness was best expressed in minimalist fashion, where we were closer-together than ever before so as to render base concepts such as "dialogue" and "story" completely and utterly meaningless. MCD5 = Perfect
THIS IS BY FAR THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME! THE SHEER COURAGE OF THE WRITERS AND THE DIRECTOR TO DEPICT ANYTHING AS HORRIBLE AS THE FACE OF EVIL (which is an androgynous woman named mary) AND THE EMINENCE ACTING SKILL OF THE ACTOR, NEIGH THE SCREEN-GOD! THAT PLAYED ADMIRAL JIM JONES IS A HERO, NEIGH A SAINT. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS FILM YOU ARE DAMNED, AND I WEEP FOR THY SOUL.
sickk kunt ya, watching bad animated movies where either Joseph Lei was the director or producer will do that. He's a lot a better working on live action martial arts exploitation then this lovely abomination.
i actually like the music at the burial scene of sherry (cherry?), it has some potential. Just shows you that in every pile of crap there is a small, small nugget of gold.
@@redcomet_622 I'll have to check when I get back home. Out at the moment. The CD also happens to have a different arrangement from the original LP release in terms of how tracks were presented.
The little red idiot robo-pilot of Diatron-3? "Biphon", was it? Yeah. He's a ripoff of the Vifam from "Ginga Hyoryuu Vifam/Round Vernian Vifam", one of Sunrise's non-Gundam mecha shows in the early-mid eighties. Out of all the absolute *nuttery* in this film, this is the only thing that makes even the slightest bit of sense to me... aaaand now my brain has gone into a flat spin...
31:28. That was when I began to gape. 31:51. That was when I could not believe my EYES on what I was seeing. I mean...Jesus tap dancing Christ, what in holy living hell am I LOOKING at!? :O
32:30 This version loses so much of the comedy. When Samba is talking about killing red soldiers and the girl laughs, in the British version he says, "You want to get punched in the face or something huh?" Then in the exchange with the Coward "Chi", samba is called a fat toad. Geez
@@eliaveloso1869 What I had was a fan circulated tape I probably got in the late 90's. It was called "Anime MST3K" and basically had this video with an added soundtrack of a few viewers heckling it like the show.
