Shockingly, there is actually a provision in the USGA Equipment Rules specifying about microchips and other tracking equipment inside of a golf ball. It's allowed. My worry would be total weight, but the chip itself? No problem.
“Theoretically you shouldn’t lose it” Rick obviously hasn’t seen how my ball is magnetically attracted to any source of water on the course at all time
But you know, if you go hiking you better take one club and golf ball with you, if you get lost, you have no worries because you will always find water..😉
We've all wished we had technology like this many times and it's only a matter of time before it gets better. Kudos to BBall for being the first to actually produce it. Within a few years it may well be the norm. I'm proper fed up of losing a ball in the rough just off the fairway, especially when you can see it land!
In winter conditions i have lost balls in the middle of the fairway. My buddies and i call these kinda' shots the 'tiger woods rule' cause if we were on tour 5,000 people would be pointing at our ball no matter where it lands. Because of this, fairway shots and just off the fairway shots that are obviously visible from the tee are considered a drop shot with no penalty.
Compression of the ball is the problem. They would be adding electronics into the molding of the core. Once you compress it when hitting a shot. You would smash the electronics inside
It’s gonna take a lot longer then a few years. There’s things that was invented in the last 10 15 years that have had improvements that’s still fuck up.
When this tech gets better in the future you’ll be able to keep track of all your stats on an app - ball flight, distance, speed, etc for every shot. It could even keep score for you
This is precisely what I have been talking about for decades. There must be serious technical obstacles for this to have taken so long to have come to market. My surprise is how poor the ball is.
I don’t know, with a golf ball, it’s just not feasible to put technology that’s supposed to en accurate when it’s constantly getting hit and compressed. That’s why this Bball had to be basically a rock, to prevent ball compression
Fr man, newer companies like this need to realize standard white is the best route. I bought Vice’s golden golf balls when they first came out just for the hell of it when I had a scramble tournament to play in. Those things are near impossible to find if you don’t hit it in the fairway.
@@jpstpeter5516 I had a buddy give me a sleeve of the gold Vice balls and I'd never take them to the course. They're perfect for the simulator or putting green though! Especially this time of year with the sun getting lower, and leaves on the ground, it's damn near impossible to find even a white or yellow ball. But I play the white Vice Pro Plus and love them! Just gonna stick to the regular white ones is all.
Thomas K agreed. Vice is a solid ball and I like the idea, bummer it didn’t work out with the on course scenario. I thought they looked pretty cool lol
This is basically like the golf version of a concept car, the first of its kind. It feels like this’ll be honed and improved over the next decade. It may well eventually be the norm when it’s been perfected
@@FIFAplaya12 Nobody will buy them as long as a shot into the water means losing $35. You'd have to get way more competitive on the price, not to mention the feel. That part may even be more difficult to accomplish. Who knows, it might be borderline impossible. It's almost certainly going to need a lot of money poured into R&D, money that the big guys might have, but the little guys don't. They've got a tough road ahead of them.
I'm almost done developing my own ball tracking system. Finishing up rooting and diag for different platforms. It measures impact, speed, distance, angle and depth. Best part is, use any ball you want. This is modification of club innards and club face rear post. Excited! Been 5 yrs in making. Lotta programming and material testing to ensure the top quality feel along with manufacturing cost for any company to use. If all works out ill send you two of the testing clubs. Driver and 7. I modified Titleist ap2s and can play at night with them.
The tech is on the right track. Make the ball better and I could see it being a great idea. Solid for fall golf when the course is littered with leaves. I lost one of my custom tp5 the other day after I saw where it went but couldn't find it in leaves I was pissed because I Knew it was in play either in the fairway or slightly in the left rough.
My local course was built on a swamp. New owners don’t but $ back into it. Needless to say it’s wet. I was even par playing 9, crushed my drive on dog leg down left side of fairway, never found the ball. Plugged somewhere in the fairway. My league has a loose rule if everyone agrees to where it is u can drop if it should have been found. I dropped roughly where I thought it should be, made “par.” Subconsciously I think I tried to miss the “birdie” because of the lost ball. It sucks it happened, if there was a camera or spotter it would have been found, now I feel ripped on my nice round because of this. It would be great for amateurs for stuff like this. Pros never lose balls no matter where they r. Crowds, spotters, Marshall’s and cameras always know where the ball is.
If you haven't already, try one with an LED inside of it (for night golf). They're $117/dozen and come in a variety of colors. My brother-in-law has one and I bounced it on the concrete floor of his garage to get it to light up. They claim to be good for 500 hits before the battery embedded inside dies out.
I play a ProV1X and can confirm I didnt go G425LST because the sound made me cringe every single time. It's also bad with the fairways but not quite as bad.
Yeah, it's easily the worst sounding of the best drivers. I love the dead crack from my Callaway, loved the slightly more metallic sound of the Mizuno it replaced. I'd give up 10 yards distance to not hear that sound lol
I'm convinced the Garmin r10 review is never going to come and Rick is hoping we just forget about it after all the suspect initial feedback on the accuracy
I have one. I didn't have it a month ago when the early reviews questioned the accuracy. But I have it now after several firmware updates. It's scarily accurate for such a cheap device. I put it head to head with a trackman and it spit out the same results about 95% of the time. One thing though, you HAVE to set it up properly for it to work. If it is off by a degree, you are going to get funky numbers so get out a measuring tape or a laser pointer.
@@kirby702 that's good to hear! I have one, too. Stopped using it a bit while all of the initial updates and concerns were around and will go back to it soon once things have steadied out a bit
Thanks for shelling out the oooooroos on these Rick. Saved me the heartache! maybe when an actual proper brand brings them out, they could be worthwhile.
I started golfing about a month ago after being plugged into a corporate tournament at 30 years old. I have fallen in love with the sport and love watching your videos. Once I fix my horrendous slice I’m coming for you Rick 😂
I’m actually exited for this I lose a golf ball nearly round sadly the price kinda kills it and plus preformance. Hopefully everything will develop from here. Keep it up Rick!
Try and looking for balls in OB areas around 200 or so yards off every tee box, I usually find so many every game just by walking by since most people miss into the same areas, when you find one there'll usually be a handful more nearby
You could buy 3 dozen Bridgestone Tour B XS, have money left for a pint and have 36 rounds of golf with nice golf balls instead of that rock with a tracking chip.
For someone with poor vision (left eye blindness) this is an answer to a prayer. Where can i grab a few of these?? I cant golf alone because I usually have someone track my golf ball- this is literally gold! Total game changer.
This technology would be really helpful for those times you lose your ball in areas you KNOW it landed! Those areas where the pros have thousands of people looking for their ball!
RICK!!!!! Me and my brother in law love your vids! Keep up the Great content! I just got back into golf and your are pretty much my golf coach.😂 Thank you!
For tracking what they need is something similar to how Apple's new airtag location tracking works. And when you get close it gives you and arrow with direction and distance. Wonder if a big brand would work with Apple down the line to implement it and use the apple OS
They should - if Apple worked say with tittilist I bet they could solve all the problems and both make some serious money as the majority of golf is played by us non pros
Thanks Rick for the review. I wonder what is the highest degree of pollution : lose standard balls as usual or lose these kind of balls (more components) in lakes, rivers and more ?
Rfid tech could be used for this functionality. I use it in my line of work for locating singular items in a retail facility of around 10,000 items. It is highly accurate. Wouldn’t be just an app though, it would also need an RFID antenna to find it.
Hopefully this is the start of traceable balls, the technology develops, improves and the price drops. But.. why would golf ball manufacturers manufacture a ball that effectively encourages their customers to buy less of their product?
They won't and have no interest sacrificing performance. My $$$ idea is more a paint type cover that a phone app, or watch/range finder can find. Any ball. Or an app that can just find balls out there, somehow.
This is great for the old people that were holding up 4 groups the other day. Kept walking past their balls and looking for 10 minutes just to drop. Got a couple nice pro v1's out of that at least.
Mr. Rick Shiels, I’ve finally subscribed but I’ve been watching your videos for years. I hate social media but your videos are excellent! You have an amazing draw to your swing. That’s a beautiful ball flight! I’ve been trying to get rid of my fade after futilely mimicking Fred Couples swings in ‘93 and I’m now 44. I just want to say keep up the good work. I ordered some 770 irons in June and TM told me they wouldn’t be ready till Dec. No big deal, I can wait. I still smoke my Titleist DCI’s from ‘93. I’ve had these clubs for 30 years but I hope the 770’s make a huge difference. My woods have always been hand-me-downs from my big brothers. I hope these new irons can prove to me technology has changed and maybe I’ll invest in new woods. Keep up the great work and best wishes!
It's like the old joke about the un loosable ball, one player says to the other where did you get that ball , he said if found it 😁👍. Keep em coming Rick
Omg I am so happy you chose the ball test I suggested. I have to say it sounded horrible on the video as well. And if you can't even cut it in half that tells you how hard it is. Nice video.
Sync with Bluetooth and add an audible beep to the ball. When you're in range it beeps. Better idea though is to spend 150 on lessons and just stop losing your ball lol
@@jimmrockford9407 very true but I've yet to see a player lose a ball in the middle of the fairway. Don't get me wrong, like Rick I think these balls represent a great concept, however, I don't think they're ready yet for main steam play, nor do I think they are economically feasible at that price point.
@Bobbo857 last round of golf I played I lost two balls one was in the fareway the other in the rough, the fairway one was annoying because I’d saved it from out of bounds with a great shot then couldn’t find it in the middle of the fareway. It was frustrating because that was the first ball I’d lost in 40 holes of golf.
Excellent idea. With a few tweeks to the technology, like having a bluetooth enabled gps and havinh the golf course also interact with ball in theory the ball can be tracked from impact.
It’s the limitations of Bluetooth connectivity. Usually Bluetooth only has an average range of up to 10 meters or 30 ft, but some have more powerful chips that can extend further. If you had a satellite tracked ball like some of these course apps with the phone, then you’d be Able to track it 3 holes over. but my guess it’s made so you can find it when you know the approximate direction or landing zone it’s hit to. Still cool as hell
Just read a half arsed article on theses balls, thought to myself I wonder if Rick has a video on his channel. Didn’t let me down, only 3 days ago. Thanks Rick.
Modern man is not the man who goes off to discover himself, his secrets, and his hidden truth; he is a man who tries to invest himself in something beneficial for the future.
Bitcoin is my finance present and future investment, the wisest decision have done to diversify portfolio.. My first investment with Mr Richard Emerson earned over $30,000 US dollar ever since then he has been delivering.
Mr Richard Emerson is a certified Broker I have worked with him for months anyone who he handles his or her trade for, has nothing to fear you have to believe in him and follow his guidance.
How many of us have wondered about playing with golf balls that have a tracking device? The example isn't "it", but it's showing first steps toward the goal we've been waiting for! Rick, thanks very much for the investment you made :)
Interesting video! I was just having a discussion about traceable golf balls and was wondering how far we are from there….still got a ways to go apparently
It's a good start to getting this tech going. When I look for my ball, I already know it's in range I just can't see it and it ends up counting as a stroke.
Rick, very entertaining video. Love it when you do this weird stuff. But for 30 pounds per ball (about CDN$50/ball for me in Ontario) I'll just get another dozen Srixons or Bridgestones. Was hoping to see if this ball can swim back to shore. Oh yes and they sound brutal. Keep the offbeat stuff coming. Cheers.
I have another golf ball in mind for you to review and compare to the ProV1. They are claiming that not only it's as good as a ProV1, but possibly could outperform the ProV1. It's the OnCore VERO X1. I would love to see you review and compare them head-to-head!
Totally get the concept. Could this one day provide feedback like the GC quad does, eg. distance, spin, launch angle etc?? 🤔 Sounds like it neds a bit of advancement though
Nice video I have an idea for a video take a cheap golf ball for begginers like a distance ball surlyn cover very little spin and have a pro golfer play it and see results with driver and chip or approach shots.
Rick shiels love all your videos and is there any chance u can do one using a mat as we r using them already and would love some of your tips many thanks
Great review Rick! 👏 The tech has a ways to go. Tldr: theoretical blahblahblah The range problem has to be addressed first. Theoretically, if the course wanted to spend enough money they could put bluetooth signal extenders into the course spaced ever so perfect to give whole course coverage. They could then tie this into their on-board cart systems or offer a course app. Idk if it is possible to double the extenders to perform some form of triangulation? But that would help accuracy in finding the ball, probably to the foot. The big names would have to re-engineer it to actually perform like a grade A golf ball should though. That sounded awful.
I’m sure the technology will improve with these ( better cover, softer feel, better connectivity, and so on. 🤞🏽 When it says “in range” it should have an arrow pointing, like a compass.
Good video Rick. You talked about a major ball manufacturer using it. I don't see this happening because if it works they will selll far fewer golf balls due to not very many being lost what do you think? Simon in Oxford.
I'm curious as to how they balance the ball. It has a microchip in it with a specific orientation that is in a flat orientation. Since it isn't symmetrical about all orientations would that impart some sort of change in the angular momentum about the ball spinning?
Do you think once they get it right it will record shots for scorecards in the future? GPS the hole and know how many times hit, out of bounds etc.....??
