Microclimate Evo Connected Thermostat - Unboxing & Tutorial

I actually received this and recorded the footage on release date, around a month ago, but I've been very busy and only just getting around to editing it... better late than never, though, eh!?
Having used it for a while now, I can say this really is a fantastic piece of kit. As this vivarium isn't at my own house, being able to use the app to observe real time temperature, make alterations, and receive alerts if the WiFi or power cuts out are really valuable. It's also great to be able to see historic data for up to the past 12 months, and be able to see the temperature at any given time.

They are really handy. There is also a model with a third channel and probe. A version coming out soon that has a hygrometer built in.

I have just got mine today, found it quite confusing to set up but almost habe it right! Am I right the temperature probe is yellow/blue for left and right? How do I set the independent times for the best sides to have a hot/cold side and also what are the reccomended temps for both? (I’m a new owner!) thanks so much :)
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad Год назад
How do you mean left and right? There is a probe for both colours - you can put either on either side? You set the times and temperatures by clicking on the corresponding colour and programming. I can't comment on recommended temperatures as I don't know what species it's for.

Im upgrading my casque headed iguana to a bigger enclosure. Hopefully in next couple of months and I want to upgrade the thermostat too. I noticed this evo can basically do ramp up for temps which would be handy as Ive got the lumenize uvb and led bar for the new set up which can be set to ramp up and down throughout the day. Which one would you recommend?
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad 6 месяцев назад
I've never used the ramp feature, so can't really advise on this, sorry. If you go to the Microclimate website, they have instructions you can read.
@TantonJS

@MostlyMonitorMad It was more a recommendation between the 2, 3 and pro thats all tbf the ramping ill figure that out 🙂

I know you can set a setpoint for the ideal temp, but on the dimming setting, can you set a lower temp for once it’s dropped to that, it will automatically brighten the bulb to reach it’s setpoint temp?
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad 2 года назад
I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you mean, so if the following doesn't answer your question, please let me know. The dimming function works so that it doesn't exceed the temperature you select, and then dims the lamp to hold that temperature. For the temperature to then reduce, the lamp would be turned off for a period of time, as the temperature cools, and then it will turn on dimmed to maintain that lower temperature. It's possible to set up to 8 different time periods and a corresponding temperature for each.

Any idea why mine just won’t connect to the internet it still turns the lights on and off but the display constantly reloads and just will not connect to wifi or the app so far it’s an absolutely rubbish product for the price I paid

I switched to a different internet provider and had the same issue. If you call Microclimate as I did, they will happily guide you through the process to get it online.

Am I correct in assuming that there is no mounting hardware in the box ?
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad Год назад
I can't recall, but there are holes for hooks/screws on the rear, so would be easy to mount

Can you make it dim your lights on and off ?😊
@MostlyMonitorMad

Yes, if has dimming, as well as pulse and on/off modes.

Do you need an app to run thi.
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad 11 месяцев назад
It functions the same as any other stat, via the touch screen. But you can instead opt to use the app to programme and it then gives the ability to monitor away from home.

I think the biggest defect is no removable probes
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad 10 месяцев назад
Something I've always wished for. Less of an issue however with the thin tipped probes on this product line, compared to original Evos.

If the evos were like, for example the herpstat 4 (all others models are also great), which has removable power cord and sensors!, At least half of outlets can be dimming or pulse, and all.of then can be used for heating / cooling / lighting, and 2 of the 4 can be configured for humidity. If microclimate could at least match the reliability, funtionality and practicality of the herpstats it would be the ULTIMATE thermostat, but no, the choose not to be the number 1 in the market. Even without the app the herpstat is THE best reptile /arthropod thermostat out there. No gimmicks, all true funtionality, they focused in what is really important for the user

@@D4ni3lS4nk3 @DanielCastillo911 I've not used a herp stat - like 99.9% of UK keepers as to my knowledge they aren't in the UK at all. I can't comment on how good or bad they are. I can't see how the probes being removable is something that has any bearing on the ability to have multiple channels running dimming or pulse, that's just the internal electronics. Microclimate do have other stats in this and prior range that can have two dimming/pulse/combination of them. I've never needed more than two such options, but then on big vivs, I don't even need to use them for lamps, only for nesting and tube heater for ambient, with lights (including halogens) set to on/off. I would imagine that the user base that needs more is quite small....... Especially in a UK market about one 5th the size of the US.....

@@MostlyMonitorMad you could with 1 unit, regulate the bulb of 4 enclosures, if you're using the herpstat 4 and your room humitity is good, why removable sensors?, if your stop working what do you do? Can you just have spares in a box and simply replace it?, That is a big deal for me, why is it important have outlet versatility, well because of that, versatility, you may have never needed more, but other breeders do, we think the system has a lot of potential. And as it is, its cool, but is not the best out there, why?, When it could easily be
@MostlyMonitorMad
@MostlyMonitorMad 10 месяцев назад
@@D4ni3lS4nk3 yes, running more enclosures is an advantage, albeit one that's offset by ability to use a single channel for more than one enclosure if they are the same size and construction. The probe replacement is something that could help some people. It's not too common for probes to fail. I've had it happen, but then I've had about 10 Microclimate stats, including some that are old and bought 2nd hand... Do spares come with the herp stats? If not, then what percentage of people are buying them to have on hand? I would suspect not a lot. Sure, very reassuring to have the ability to do that, but if the numbers who would buy the spare probes is very low, that's not a compelling justification for innovation for a manufacturer. If as most would, replacement probes need to be ordered, it wouldn't take much longer to send stat in to get repaired - Microclimate have excellent warranty and only charge a nominal fee plus postage for repairs out of warranty. When I've sent stats for repair, I've had them back within a week. The things you've mentioned are desirable, but I go back to how much smaller the UK market is and how few people would be prepared to pay even more on top of what is already an expensive bit of kit. Are these stats even available in USA? If not, perhaps they are content with being the best in the market they sell to, rather than globally.

Presuming you are referring to the video and not my responses to your comments, in which case, you can slow down the video to half speed if that would help. If you feel that the video should be thermostats 101, rather than a product review, that was never the intent of making this video. That said, as I have answered on your prior comment, this is designed for use applications such as yours.
