Thank you for sharing your thoughts, fears and pains in detail. I found myself shaking my head & agreeing with you 99% of the time. It was reassuring to hear that someone from the opposite sex, has had such similar experience with pain, surgery & recovery in UK. I’m halfway around the world in Los Angeles, had the same surgery 11 days ago for my L-3 L-4 left side. Almost everything you said resonated with me.

I’ve been suffering for the last six months and have surgery scheduled for next month. This is one of the most encouraging videos I’ve seen, thank you so much for sharing your journey!

I had surgery 3 weeks ago. My success is similar to yours. Same side of hip pain 1 out of 10. Luckily I had no numbness. As a farmer, it’s hard not to push recovery too fast and get back to work. Some days I have to come home early and recover. But always feel great in the morning.

Just diagnosed with a herniated L5, hell is just the front door to the pain caused by a severe bulging disc!

Sadly yes. They gave me opioid based pain killers, which I was petrified to take but I was so desperate for a bit of a relief from the pain, that I took it, but it did jack shit nothing to ease the pain!!! So hell is about right

@@stephanielafferty7078 I ended up being operated on, which is such a relief. I would encourage you to do it.

Don’t be scared if operation was suggested. It’s not a major one, it’s minor, they go in and shave off (file) the part that’s bulging so it stops touching & irritating the nerves. All da best to you.

@@sophies.9907Is that what you did? And how are you doing now? I see so many people talk about how you should never do that surgery you could reherniate blah blah blah and then I hear people say it’s the best thing they ever did. Seeing a neurosurgeon next week and turning down surgery, if that’s suggested, will be very hard. My life is completely on hold.

Just had the same procedure in the UK with a very similar story I went down the NHS route with injections and an epidural into the L5 S1 I went private in the end with the surgery 3 days ago.. I’m a lot older than you but it’s inspiring to hear your journey as you I couldn’t find many recovery stories here in the UK Early days for me but fingers crossed 🤞 Thanks Andy

Hell on earth is a correct description of the pain pre surgery. I'm 18 days post surgery. Not an easy recover like you, I had bad nerve pain for most of the 18 days but it's getting better. I only had to wait a week for surgery post MRI bc I'm in America and have health insurance. I'm originally from the UK.

@Angela-uh1je

I'm in America too but I had to wait two months to even get an MRI and then two and a half months later had the surgery. I have good insurance, but they want you to do physical therapy for a while first then try steroid injection and only then will they approve surgery. I'm almost two weeks post surgery and have some occasional tingling and light back pain, but nothing like before.

I'm glad it was useful to you :) Yes it's been about 7 months and I'm back to plastering houses full time again! Lugging 25KG bags up ladders etc. No issues at all just the odd ache here and there nothing concerning. I obviously go easy now and take a lot of care but it's been life changing.

Thanks for video, I remember the living hell!!! Surgery 2 weeks ago today. I’m still experiencing leg pain and some numbness, and living the constipation of codeine as well, really helps with my butt muscles knackered too!!! I’m still on all those pain killers you mention, it comes and goes… what’s the balance between walking and resting? I’m not walking enough as my hamstring is tight as hell, so looking fwd to discussing that with the physio

Crying at stages like you.( I'm also a single mother with a 1 year olds and 2 year old... Hectic) thank goodness for my mum!! How are you now 7 months later?? Oh how much did your surgery cost? Oh and I got surgery because I ened up crawling into the emergency department and lying on the floor with tears streaming down my face... actual worst pain of my life. So I got surgery 3 days later on the public system... otherwise I would have been waiting months.

@@mayajackson3761 I'm 10 months in of back pain. I found out I have a disc buldge at L5 s1 I've tried physical therapy, chiropractor, decompression exercises, deep tissue massages, medicine, etc nothing helps. I got a steroid injection 24 hours ago I'm waiting to see if it will kick in within the next week to relieve me of pain. My doc said if it helps with the pain surgery will help the pain go away. I have back pain on my left side when I sit not when I walk or stand I have no leg pain (Sciatica). Has your pain went all the way away after surgery? Also did u have leg or back pain b4 surgery or both 🤔
