Yes. I remember Christmas of 78 when I received this awesome toy from "Santa". I was up until 1am playing with this toy and my parents allowed my sister and myself to enjoy the evening. The toy line was my escape from reality for a while and forged a great memory that I hold onto whenever I see something from Meco. After the move and time, parts were lost or broken from so much use. If we could go back in time and enjoy them again.
I still fondly recall the dull thud of those red rubber projectiles on hardwood. I had this toy when I was about 4 years old and I remember being bewildered and overwhelmed by the complexity of it! Now I get it - Time Traveler was supposed to slide from that one spot down into the cockpit!!!
I had this as a kid back in 80. I play with it until it literally fell apart. It got scattered all over the basement and I lost it over the years.... I think what was left of it got sold in a yard sale. I wish I'd taken better care of it, but back then, kids PLAYED with their toys, not keep them in the box and hang em on the wall like we do now.
With those plastics. Hmmm… 🤔 I mean, I wasn’t always gentle with my toys, but my Micronauts still broke at odd times, and in many irreparable ways… So few survived intact…
Man that brings back memories...I remember Time Traveler and Andrameda...wow!...that's when kids all played together and we used our imaginations...the Micronauts were AMAZING!!!!... just looking back I wish I had held on to them.
Re-discovery is a very cool thing. I clearly remember this toy now thanks to this commercial. 33 years ago I was surprised with a ton of Micronauts stuff for Christmas and spent the entire Christmas break building things with this and the monorail. It was my favorite Christmas as a kid. I couldn't put my finger on just what it was I had until now. Thanks for posting!
Best detail for me was the electrical connectors...they had a magnet inside so it was quick, easy and correct each time. Real tools could use that kind of cleverness today! I saw a Battle Cruiser on ebay...bidding was up to $230. WOW.
Such a great toy! We did not have many toy stores in our small town, which has since quadrupled in population, but we had a K-mart that sold micronauts. I got this for Christmas in the late 1970s and had blast putting it together and playing with it during winter break. I even used the dart gun by putting a needle into the tip, attaching a string, and shooting it into a wasp nest in our doghouse to pull it down. The Battle Cruiser had all sorts of uses! I recently got one on eBay that is in great shape and still works! Now my son can enjoy it too.
I never got any of the Star Wars vehicles so when I bought (or possibly traded for) his Micronaut Battle Cruiser off of a friend It was the first vehicle I had for 3.75" lines, but I was kinda an articulation snob so only ever used it with , Buck Rogers, Snake Eyes, Black Hole Sentry and the white Time Traveller I had (My blue Space Glider had his own glider pack as did my white Galactic Defender). The two side pods were awesome !
I had that, wow....I have not seen it since it was released as a NEW toy...My folks spent a fortune on that collection for me....I had all of figures, vehicles, accesories too... WOW!!!!!!!!!!
Micronauts were only space-themed toys I dug. Had this Cruiser and played for hours. Action figures were cool too. Had snap-on mini-jetpacks. Android appearance. Loved it all. No getting into Star Wars toys after this masterpiece toy line.
@danlektro The original micronauts predated Star Wars by three years, first released in 1976 (1974 in Japan), but yeah, I think you're right about the Baron Karza being their own version of Darth Vader.
I remember mine being bigger than this one. I had 90% of mine for 20+ years, until my little niece got ahold of it and it is now scattered to the four winds. 😭😭😭😭
I been wondering for yrs what that transformable beast that consumed my childhood was called . So glad I happened upon this vid , now im off to E-Bay for a look lol.
LOL… I don’t know about you guys, but I ended up with several broken parts. Hard non-shatterproof plastic should never be used for toys, let alone reusable building toys… 🤦♂️
@danlektro That's a good suggestion about the Mego Museum, I'll try that. Yeah, the font was not uncommon throughout the 70's, often but not always in the context of futuristic themes. Right, the M and other letters in the Micronauts logo have a little "extra" at their ends, I assume a marketing strategy suggestive of the Star Wars brand logo which had stamped itself so firmly in the collective consciousness of the time.
My mum bought me this for my 14th birthday. But was also my last toy she reluctantly bought as she said I was getting too old for toys & should play with pretty girls instead...😊
It's funny how some people don't know that the Micronauts are also able to be used in Transformer toys especially the bad guy from the Walter p38 can't remember hsi name?
@danlektro : it is the same, isn't it? I haven't laid eyes on the Sega logo since my days at the Sega Center arcade in the early eighties, and so had forgotten. I've just found it under "Sega font". Thanks!
No real need. It's just such an iconic fixture of my childhood, and, along with another font type I can think of, epitomized the "space-age" aesthetic that was quite an inspiration to me then. It would be nice to know the name and be able to locate a downloadable version somewhere, that's all. I did try the Willy Jones files suggested by sreafea below, but they do not open with any app I've used and so remain inaccessible *sigh*. And still don't have a name!
I have bad memories of the Micronauts battle cruiser I received for Christmas . The remote shorted out the next day and Mom returned it but took the cash instead of replacing it . I never got another one and I am still salty about it
OK, who is the voice of the sound mixer on the academy leader? And, who is the narrator in the main commercial? After that, who is the cameraman, and then, the editor? Finally, the composer of the music?!?
Same here. There was no ABS/Nylon here. The hard plastic parts would crack as you separated them… The soft plastic parts would crack everywhere…tabs…holes…or split into pieces…😮
Does I get me a gold star to tell you that your video file originally came from my collection? It's a low-resolution preview file provided to me by the company that transferred the commercial from a film reel (in my collection) into a more modern format, along with cleaning & color correction. I shared the collection of previews with fellow collector Microbry and his RocketTubes website, after that which they were copied away across the net. If you want high-quality versions to see, you need to visit AcroRay's Laboratory.
You *does* get you one gold star for that:) But then you done also losted you one gold star for not deinterlacing the video, which caused me to have some mild seizures and made me sick to my stomache:\
mistofoles That would be Microtron! Honestly, that thought never occurred to me as a kid, and i had a Microtron....but i'm sure some others saw it that way.
Every school kid of my generation and earlier who ever watched an old-fashioned projected film in class has asked the same question. The countdown always had one frame of a pretty girl. I have no idea why.
The three metallic headed figures are Space Glider, Time Traveler, and Galactic Warrior. The comic portrayed Space Glider as a flesh-and-blood guy, even though the action figure had a silver head. Time Traveller in the comic was an energy being, and therefore pretty much always glowing. Galactic Warrior never really appeared in the comic; Bug was very loosely based on him (they'd call Bug "Galactic Warrior" once in a while), but was obviously very different looking.
bobadventures in the new comics, Space Glider is a type of flight technology used by one of the protagonists, while Time Travellers are evolved Pharoids.
Wanted a "Green Machine" instead I got a "Big Wheel"...Asked for a "Colecovision" got a handheld toy from Rad shack. Wanted a "NES" got "Atari"...Wanted "Gi Joe"...Was given some lame knockoff....wanted anything "Star Wars" ....was given this.....(lolz) iv'e made a lot of Lemon juice so to speak over the years.
Ya you really got screwed without the Green Machine. My brother had the only one on our block in our Long Island neighborhood. Everyone else had Big Wheels with the e-brake. He would destroy them in races and could turn circles around them. I'm sorry you missed out :(
I had a Friend Long After the big wheel Green machine Fad was over,,,,,that Had a Green Machine... I had to try it.......So.....cool! that's the best way I can explain it.
MrVapourtrail71 It's surprising, but they still make Green Machines. Man, I used to want one of those, too. I imagined sailing around the streets with a little helmet and while slamming those levers back and forth. Never got one, though. I did, however, get full size Shogun Warriors and more Micronauts than was fair. And a Kenner inflatable light sabre.
and thats still not all! marvel comics will co-opt this! someday, transformers will copy this! jj abrams will attempt (and fail) to make a movie out of this! true believers everywhere will rejoice in keeping pristine comic book collections! 'nuff said!
