Why did the cell membrane start to disintegrate? I don’t think the membrane reacts that much to light. If anything I might expect the chlorophyll to disintegrate under intense light first due to its generation of radicals. It is interesting to see the cilia still moving so much even when the membrane has been damaged

I don't think we would be washing our hand or using disinfectant costantly if we didn't know about their existence. Also, i don't think they can feel pain, and they 100% don't even think, so i don't see anything wrong with this.
