"Are you trying to paint a sky, or paint a cow?" That is probably the best analogous answer I've ever heard when the question is about microphone selection.

I tuned into this late so had to watch the recorded version. Just wanted to say how helpful Matt was in helping me choose one of his great mics. I'll be leaving a more detailed review on his site about the mic itself, but if you are looking for a company that works really hard and goes above and beyond to take care of their customers - Matt's Roswell Pro Audio is out of this world! :-)

One of the best things to do is... First acquire the Best Equipment one can afford. It will keep you from actually going broke by re-purchasing the same stuff twice. Second find Value in your acquisition, do your Research. Third Knowledge is Power, read, study and colaborate. Asking questions is not a sign of weakness. One microphone tip you wish someone had taught you sooner? was the link that brought me here to comment. Peace

Thanks for the great podcast tonight. I wasn't familiar with Roswell mics, but very nice! Great sound, nice diversity on sound. Would love to own one!

The sound quality on this video is absolutely excellent, Matthew. What Microphone did you use, and what outboard compressor with how much gain reduction?

I had a Mini K47 positioned low, just out of frame, angled up towards my mouth. It was most likely plugged directly into the audio interface, with no compression or processing. In the subsequent Q&A video, I was using an SSL SiX as a mic pre. If I was using that in this video, too, then the SSL's channel-strip compressor might have been engaged, but if so it wouldn't have been heavy because there's a lot of ambient noise in that space (e.g. cats fighting outside, acoustic sweep tests happening in the next room, etc) which would have been much more apparent if heavy compression were used.

Great as usual. How well two Delphos, in cardioid and figure 8 for M/S stereo?
@RoswellProAudio
@RoswellProAudio 7 месяцев назад
That's a great application. The Delphos II is really nice in fig-8. we've used pairs for Blumlein before too.

I'd love to hear you send Mike from Booth Junkie an RA-VO for review! I go to his channel for a lot of mic reviews and so to many others. It would be cool to hear your entire line on his channel!

Dear Matthew, thanks again for this very informative video. A little off-topic question. How would you compare the Carlec Cm1050c with your take on the km84's? Thank you in advance.

I think the biggest thing for me was the importance of recording vocals in a treated room, it would have improved the sound quality of my vocal recordings. Keep up the good work I've herd the mini on @boothjunkie and it sounded so good that I need to get one I really love the warm tone and clarity

Excellent response. The "best" mic can depend not only on the source, but where the mic is placed, and exactly as you say: "it depends".

hello thanks for video, if is it possible i want to ask a question about trouble with my videomic pro mic. There is always pictch noise in my records,i am using zoom recorder for less hissing while record. i can take it with notch or dehummer filters but this filters adds some hoarse on sounds. Maybe cable is problem? How can i fix this trouble? i want to sent you screenshot but no option in youtube

Matt, you said, “The Mini K47 is a bit leaner on the bottom, slightly narrower than cardioid in its polar pattern and has the expected 4-6 kHz boost due to the K47 capsule, which can sound brighter depending on the source.” Wasn’t the brightness of the Neumann K47 capsule used in the later U 47 tamed through circuitry? What about the K47 in the Mini K47?
@ec461o
@ec461o 3 года назад
Thanks for sharing your experience Matt, very informative! Btw.. the Mini K47 I got a few months ago is really working out well. I've used it on vocals , electric guitar, drums and even during Zoom video calls with great results. Hope to add another one in the future.

Very enlightening. Thanks! Also wonderful with a sound pro who can record speech that's not boomy or muddy but smooth and clear at the same time - not always the case!

Sound proofing, Sound deadening and Sound "tuning" for reflection, diffusion that you want to keep or take advantage of in a room also. :-)

Toward the end of the video you talked about transformer and transformerless microphones and their compression characteristics. You claimed that the transformer design had some built-in compression that was less obvious to hear than the transformerless design with a compressor, making the transformer design easier to mix What I did not hear you say is what kind of compressor you used; specifically, were you using a FET compressor? a tube compressor? a compressor in-the-box? - What kind of compressor were you using?
@RoswellProAudio
@RoswellProAudio 2 года назад
Good question. It was the standard compressor plug-in from Pro Tools.

This was great! Keep them coming. My question is are there other capsules besides the four (CK-12, K47, K67, M7) popular ones? Or are they all pretty much some sort of version of one of the four? Are there other capsules that we should be looking at besides the four? Thanks
@nicholasmullins3693
@nicholasmullins3693 3 года назад
Most of them are variants. Until you get to like, the Neumann M50 and the Audio-Technica AT5050 that are just...very different.

Great info as always. I really appreciate the time you take to do these things. I'm not in the market for another mic currently, but rest assured that when I am, the amount of time and effort you put into your products and into educating your customers will heavily bias me towards purchasing a Roswell mic!

What would be a neutral mic to record flutes?
@RoswellProAudio
@RoswellProAudio 3 года назад
Hi @anders, nice to hear from you. The Mini K87 and Delphos II are my most neutral mics. Which you'd prefer is subjective. The "High Output" custom shop Mini K87 would be a great choice for a simple, point-and-shoot solution. The Delphos II gives you the option of Omni (if you want to capture the room) or Fig8 (if you want *less* of the room).
