Backing up our M365 data isn't something we are doing currently but been hearing about this for sometime. Though it hasn't been clear whether its our responsibility or not, seems to becoming more clear that it in fact is. For orgs like ours that keep alot of data in Sharepoint alone, the backup costs will be rather considerable and suspect difficult to approve this kind of solution.
Exactly. In my experience, it's difficult to get approval for backup solutions beyond the absolute basics. Regardless of the risks presented to management, immediate budgetary concerns usually come first. What do you think it would take to get a M365 backup solution approved in your case?
I'm increasingly considering such a backup solution for the tenants I manage. Especially for Sharepoint libraries that contain critical data that needs to remain available for at least 5 to 7 years like financial documents. Accidental deletions can take a while to get noticed, as users don't realize what they've done, and the default recovery methods are rather limited in such case.
We use Veeam backup for Microsoft 365 and saves it to immutable storage onprem. We want immutable storage separated from primary storage (i.e. Not Microsoft cloud)
