This is great. I am taking a "beginning" computer class and this is the stuff that my college considered beginning. This video is so much better than the videos and book that is required. This video rocked for my brain. This is like a class for dummies which is what I really needed.
Hi Richard Thank you for your very professional video tutorials about MSAccess. I have been doing programming since punched tapes and cards but with MSAccess I began a few days ago. I am Hungarian and as a retired person I found an endless occupation: learning Chinese language. I built up a database for Chinese words I have learned. Tried to use a search button upon your tutorial a problem came across to me. Inputbox could accept Chinese characters perfectly, but returned "??" instead Chinese characters I input before. Could you advice a proper soultion to handle this problem? (Database, Chinese input, keyboard changeing from Hungarian to Chinese and back, sorting Chinese all operating well). Thanks in advance Harmon Hungary
Hi there, first off : thanks a lot! This is amazing. One question: I stumble over the continuous form being continuous, as it shows me one record only and I need to navigate similar to your customer form. Help?! Best, Agata
@@599CD I have it just as big as the labels and I am still only seeing 1 entry sadly. Edit: Never mind! Seems I somehow missed the step to make it a continuous form instead of a single form.
Is there a setting that will tell Access to remember the size and location of forms created? My main menu form seems to always open wider than I had moved things around. Thanks!
I have followed instructions for the continuous form and I have to scroll to get each record. Mine doesn’t look like yours. I have deleted it and then I will remake it and follow step by step and something.
OK, THIS is really Step ONE. Now to decide if I should import my other Databases, Customers, Orders, ect... Or just Make them up-STARTING with This. LoL
Yeah, that's really a question for you that you have to answer because I've generally found that my students tend to restart building their databases from scratch after they've taken a bunch of my lessons because you learn so much that you didn't know before and then you're like, "Oh, I should have done it this way," or "I should have done it that way." So, whether you want to start with my blank template or rebuild yours from scratch is completely up to you. That's the benefit of learning.
My blank forms open up max screen size, Do you know where can this default window size be set, as yours is on this video.. ps im using a mobile phone as my desk top access runs offline with it being win xp..which is over vulnerable.. Happy new year 2022 Richard. Thx for insights..
I have a split DB on a shared drive and I have a main menu form that is configured to open just like suggested in your video (Options-->Current Database-->Display Form). This worked for my users for a long time, then suddenly for some users it wouldn't auto open. I then tried having an auto exec macro to open the form automatically and it was the same scenario, worked for some not others. Any idea why this might be happening?
@@599CD read some stuff and figured it out. Essentially I use more monitors than my users and I wasn't saving things on my primary monitor. So it wouldn't show on my users bc it was saved to a phantom 3rd monitor they don't have. The key was to ensure all forms have auto center as default. This fixed the problem.
I am hoping you do a video on making a background picture for a form. Let's say I want to highlight a certain portion of the form by having the color behind it yellow, but the rest of the form blue. Or I want the background to be more interesting by giving it a texture. I realize I need to make a picture for that, but cannot find out how to make a picture in access. I see the options to add a picture, but no instructions on how to make one. Microsoft did this in the Northwind Database, but I haven't been able to do it in mine.
Well, you have to make your own picture in whatever other picture program you have (even Paint). Once you do that, you can set it as the Picture property for the form, or you can insert it as an object like I do here: 599cd.com/1336
Why do prefer a continuous form to a datasheet form? Don't they essentially do the same thing, only with the datasheet form, you don't have to do any manual labor?
I have a question... I open one of my search form, and the combo box have a the ID from client. How can i get it a combo box empty (without any ID)? Thank you guys in advance.
In main menu form, can I use text or label instead of commond button wizard. Also is text and label giving double click? I have task like this, but I shouldn’t use commond button wizard for double click. Thank you 🤍
Access is frustrating. I followed the exact instructions on this video but when I look at my main menu, I get a name error as opposed to reading the words Main menu. The instructors main menu comes out perfectly. What's going on? Furthermore, maybe you can make a video about name errors because I've gotten so many of them over the past couple of days
Your videos are making me love Access and its possibilities. I built the CustoerListF as descried step by step For some reason, the records showed up with a gray background on purple. Also there appears to be extra spacing between each record. What did I miss? I purchased Level 2, and membership is next for me. Thanks
When i click on the button, I am getting the following error" The table is already opened exclusively by another user, or it is already open through the user interface and cannot be manipulated programmatically, can you please help?
