Flying in VR is something else, I wonder now how I actually could orientate with a monitor. You get used to new technology pretty quick. Love VR without a doubt the best technology in gaming ever.

It's going to be a long way before it looks crisp and crystal clear. It needs to render at 128k and 2k doesn't cut it.

@prozac1127 I'm playing Far Cry 6 in VR and it looks almost as crisp as my monitor, not to mention the immersion you get which is a night and day difference and a million times better in VR. VR is already amazing, it just needs more AAA games.

@@Gonzax cool Luke Ross is killing it. I love cyberpunk 2077 in VR unfortunately you really need a 4090, but man these triple A games in VR are just awesome. I totally agree we need actual VR triple A games.

VR is absolutely the only way to fly in MSFS, DCS, X-Plane or any auto racing sim. Once you try it there is no going back to 2D flying. I have over 1600 hours in VR and about to hit 400 of those hours in MSFS. I would say 95% of my time is in MSFS. Before VR I used a triple monitor setup with TrackIR to add to the immersion. The thing that is hard to explain is that you are watching VR recorded to show on RU-vid. In VR there is no jerky motion like it appears in the capture, like Shane said it is really hard to record. I also am very happy to see Shane in VR, it is the only way to fly. That video my friend and I am very happy to see you in VR!!! 😎👍👍❤️
@TheGbelcher
@TheGbelcher 2 года назад
Would it be possible to record and upload MSFS videos in 360 mode?
@willievstudio
@willievstudio 2 года назад
@@TheGbelcher Good question, I have not seen it yet. I also shoot 360/180 VR panoramas and have seen that on the internet. I have seen 360/180 VR capture videos from GoPro 360/180 VR camera on RU-vid, so it might be possible, but understand the 360/180 VR experience is happening in real-time and the VR headset is the window you are looking threw. Might need some coding experts to allow to show more. You will need a very powerful system to capture/record all that data, but give it time!
@BoltRM
@BoltRM 2 года назад
@@willievstudio Maybe in future, an option for MSFS saving your trip, then running a tool to generate the 360 visuals not captured in your VR view?

I disagree. It is not the only solution. I have a very good vr headset and it is great. However, the software need to render 2 images and you get significantly less fps at less quality settings if you have an old card like my 1080ti. But if you use a big monitor (over 32 inch) and the TrackIR 5 you get similar feeling than the vr headset and can play at 1440p at high/ultra with yoke and pro pedal at very good fps. I have both VR and trackir5 and i can say vr give you more high feeling but the fov is limited and it could be hot in the summer. Trackir5 allows to fly longer and see the instrument and computer much much better. My vr headset is 2880x1600 @90hz. My screen is 4k 32 inch. So of course you see instrument better in the screen. I like both. And now i fly more in 2d. However i like the VR which is equally good with my samsung odyssey Oled headset. In VR i have to zoom a bit to see sometime the number perfectly on the instrument. I nearly enough but to see clearly the rpm for example i have to move forward the head. It is also necessary to manipulate the computer. It is more easier in 2d with the trackir5. For somebody that can afford 32 inch + trackir5 you won’t need to upgrade your graphic card and still run at 50/60fps at high/ultra. You cannot do that in VR. The fps will fall down to 22fps at medium with an old graphic card 1080ti. Ryzen 1800x 32GB ddr4 @3200, samsung gen3 nvme ssd. If you have money a 4090rtx and pimax crystal or similar must be extremely impressive but still less confortable than a 2D + trackir5

I’m fairly new to Microsoft Flight Sim, playing it on Series X. I have so far put just over 80 hours of flight time and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m seriously considering upgrading to a PC and I would love to get a decent VR headset for Microsoft Flight Sim, it’s just the cost of entry is high when I’m only a console gamer. I have experienced Ace Combat in VR, I know it’s not a sim but the actual flying above the clouds in VR looked phenomenal and I’d love to experience this with Flight Sim 🤞

My favorite thing so far in VR is being able to move closer to the instruments so I can see them better. Being able to stick my head out the window to see behind me is a bit immersion breaking, but I suppose it’s my fault for doing it 😂

I really enjoy flying the Icon A5 and hopping around lakes in Alaska or Scotland. It can be like meditation... just enjoying the clouds, landscapes and sunsets. I use a Quest 2, i7-9700k and RTX 3080 and outside of the text on the panel being a little blurry, the visuals are amazing and framerates smooth. The biggest challenge is getting the balance of resolution, framerates, gpu usage and cpu usage set up tweaking Oculus Software, Oculus Debug Tool, OpenXR Toolkit, Nvidia Control Panel and in game settings... it is quite confusing when you are starting out.

I have a Quest 2, 9700k and a 2080. What did you use to connect to the PC? I have a 3rd party version of the wire, but I only tried connecting to PC once because the first time was so laggy, even when not running a game.

@OneTwoMark it is an Anker Powerlink cable. There is a test you can run in the Oculus PC software to test the cable bandwidth... mine hit 2.3gbs. Make sure you are using a usb 3 port directly on the motherboard.

They said to tell you Big Jacko sent me. EDIT: for those that don't have VR... what he means by the video doesn't do it justice is that it doesn't chatter like that when you move your head, it's smooth as butter. I think that is just a symptom of the system trying to record it in real time while the sim is running the VR in real time.

The headset you get can really affect your experience with VR. Screen resolution and FOV have a large impact on how flight sims feel. With lower resolution headsets, reading your instruments and radio frequencies can be next to impossible without bringing your head right up to the instrument. And having a low field of view means you essentially have to point your head at what you want to look at. the PC you need to run a headset with a high resolution and FOV especially with MSFS2020, Is definitely going to be expensive along with the headset itself. Along with the fact that the VR support for MSFS isn’t the greatest. Compared to X-Plane 11 despite the difference in graphical quality & lack of real world ground details like we have in MSFS, I much prefer some of the attention that has been put into making the X-Plane VR support feel more comfortable and realistic, flying with vr controllers is something that makes practicing checklists for real flying much more effective, moving your hands around the cockpit is how you do it in the plane IRL, and having to use a mouse or XBOX controller. Takes away from the immersion & realism of the simulation. Especially I’ve found with tuning frequencies with VR controllers is a hassle in MSFS, it’s much too sensitive and takes a lot of attention to just tune up the next frequency. I Love flying in VR, but until it’s gotten some more love and attention from the developers of MSFS, I much prefer X-Plane for VR flying

Nice one Shane. Tidy circuits. Have you compared the G2 to Rift 2 in MSFS yet? I agree with you that VR best for procedures and practice as it can’t yet match the clarity of a high res screen but I hear that will all change soon. We need VR headsets to get lighter and powerful graphics cards to get cheaper. Soon we hope. Love your work.

Not at all. It would likely just be a large projection of a screen, or a wrap around video with incorrect scaling. You wouldn’t be able to actually sit in the 3D model like he is, and you can only see where his head is turning.
