I can't help but feel like these are the late 80's early 90's mobile phone 'coffers' of our time. Seeing how we went from those massive coffers to our current smartphones in about 20-30 years, I can only imagine what AR devices will be like in 20-30 years time.

I think it's important to note these are not consumer products. They're for companies and developers. It'll be a few years before the first consumer geared devices hit the shelves

Remember when the first iPhone came out and we thought pinching to zoom was THE MOST futuristic? This is one of those moments; in 15 years we'll watch this while wearing AR glasses the size of a contact lens and laugh. As a side note this makes me excited for Apple's headset ;)

Gen Z are going to want stuff like this instead of an old school smart phone or tablet. If Apple isn't careful they are going to be late to the party when it comes to AR.

So now Microsoft get your Biometric eye print, they can track you, can create a map of your surrounding area, can hear you, and can see you within your own home. Do people really want this?

This will be very amazing to me as a machinist to measure parts and other things on the job. I am also an at home mechanic and I believe this product will have so much potential for businesses big and small. I hope one day I can afford one but $5000 is too much for me!.

If Holo Lens and the new brain read sistem mixes, new posibilities will be show. I was thinking abaut show in real time our ideas like when the pointer will be show and when it will hide, showing others an art maded in your brain will open a lot of ways for the art and just imagine what you can do if you can mix your reality with your mind. Question: Will be a Holo Lens version in Spanish?

I think a B2B seller’s model for the hololens is kind of a loss. But what can you expect? Innovation today is solely based on corporate profit.

@Scott Stein and everybody else. Lets clear the air right now - nobody is going to plunk down $3500 out the gate. Businesses are going get the $125 month setup with the Remote Assist software. AND guess what, for businesses that is a great price for a tool when put with Microsoft's Dynamics 365. I know because my research on D365 and the Mixed Reality suite, I have several dozen techs ready to plunk down their own money to be part of a beta testing group. Its laptop wrapped around your head - it can do what it needs to for businesses and more. Everybody need to stop WAVING there arms about $3500 and think like a business of the monthly cost amortized over 28 months and then think about what they spend on business Iphones or tablets

So it's basically taping your phone to your face. I was planning on making amazing games with this but I realized I can make a phone VR game with special gloves and there'd be almost no difference.

that realy sad judging by the low quality of the hololens even though you could get a vr headset like the oculus quest for example and have pass through mode on and have it make you see that with better quality and price

The POV shot of the turbine at 1:25 does not reflect the actual appearance for the HoloLens wearer; it is captured from the built-in camera and the superimposed augmentations are opaque, thus dark pixels can completely occlude a brighter background. For the wearer, virtual imagery must be brighter than the background in order to be perceived. But that is not CNET's fault, it's Microsoft's clever but deceptive advertising of their (admittedly impressive) product. Obviously, they could have set the camera compositing to mimick the additive one the wearer is experiencing, but why waste a good opportunity to mislead customers? BTW, usurping the terms "hologram" and "holographic" was another disgusting move. But this is on CNET: "it's now going to be available, today, to people who want to explore with it." Oh yeah? Well, I am one of those people who want to "explore with it." Please tell me how, since November 7 (the date of this video), the HoloLens 2 has been "available" to me. Our company has been waitlisted ever since we put in an order many months ago. The reality is that distribution is restricted and availability is low, so please reign in such baseless, ridiculously cheerful statements. And finally, regarding eye tracking: it is doubtlessly useful and arguably necessary in such a device. Nevertheless, consider that you are giving Microsoft free images of your iris, together with identifying information if you sign up with your real name for the mandatory account you need in order to use a HoloLens.
