+Abhishek Maddali I own a Lumia 1520 with Windows 10 and a Nexus 6. I bought the Nexus relatively recently because I became fed up with the lack of app support. Fast forward to today and unfortunately I am rather missing the productivity features I had with my 1520, which has left me rather torn. That is my proverbial 2 cents anyway.

Branden Lucero I know, we shouldn't talk much about the apps, it's seems like exaggerating a weak point. But I do care about the apps. They're everything that can enable you to do anything. There's a far less time when you just use a camera etc etc. I don't know what you're buying a phone for 😮

I love my Lumia 950xl single SIM. After years of iPhone 3g, 4s, 5s and 6+, I'm fairly new to Windows Mobile. On all of my PCs are Windows though (currently W10), so it was pretty straightforward. I found almost all apps I needed or at least a replacement, so that's not what bothers me. I like how often I receive improvements/updates (it wasn't the case with Samsung Note 4 I had as well). With the .29 build, the OS is pretty stable. The things that I' don't like much are missing "double tap to wake", squeaking phone body and not as good cursor manipulation as it's on iOS

+Benjamin Vazquez points to note: it is very accurate, proved to work in low light and when I have glasses on and it only opens for my eyes. it works almost at normal distance you would expect to hold your phone away from your eyes. it requires ideal conditions, may struggle to work if you are moving/walking. extremely painful first thing in the morning when you want to unlock your phone and you have to by looking at that bright display. you can't unlock it by squinting and it refuses to unlock. doesn't work on pictures

I have this phone for almost a month now, gotta say I'm still loving it! Went to Android briefly this past summer and boy did I regret it. Back to snappy performance and great productivity. Yes, Windows 10 mobile still needs work, but it is still far better than other OS I've tried.

david90531 I'm rocking a 1520. The app management doesn't make too much sense, say I start Spotify lock the phone it will then have to attempt to resume Spotify causing me too loose where I was. And most of the apps I used daily on android are so far behind. The phone will turn off and often freeze which is a shame I really wanted too love windows mobile. I have had the hd2 and hd7 in the past and enjoyed them just enough to think it would have been greatly improved but I guess I was wrong

I'm loving my XL. It's the first 'big' sized phone I've ever had and the first unlocked phone I bought. I have always liked the live tiles and the great creative way customization can be done on Windows Phones. No other phone has attracted me yet.

Be aware that last week a new build update was released that brought OS to version 10586.29 from 10586.10. This update addressed some bugs and battery life was improved. Make sure to have the 950 and the 950 XL updated for a fare comparison.

Mr. Fisher, I want to know about the quality of apps on W10 mobile in the video review. One guy here in the comments said we have 300.000 apps on the windows store. But show me some comparisons between an app on iOS vs the same app on the windows, or android vs windows. Tks.

+Gustavo de Caires Anhaia I have a Lumia 1520 and an iPhone 6s. Most of the 300,000 windows apps will not get approved on iOS because of false advertising and low quality. I am writing this reply on the Lumia phone from a third party RU-vid app called tubcast which in some cases is better than the official RU-vid app on android and IOS with great features like downloading videos, but the experience is not as smooth as on IOS and it takes way too longer to type on than iOS app. I am a windows phone fan, but I would never trade in my iPhone with it because the OS is laggy and apps are very slow. They are not updated on regular basis. I use the Lumia 1520 just for fun as my secondary device. iPhone is my daily driver.

+Gustavo de Caires Anhaia If you have been using iPhones lately, it will be hard for you to adapt to windows apps. The apps on windows phones are like 3 years old IOS apps with even worse and slower experience. If you have been using Safari or chrome on iOS, You will not like web browsing. There is no third party web browser that has great feature and works without any problem. UC browser is the most popular one, but it is missing basic functions like opening tab in the background. Maxthon browser crashes after you open three tabs. Frankly, if you are coming from an iPhone, you will feel like you are forcing yourself to use the apps. But apart from the app gap, I love the UI. I am hoping windows 10 delivers and becomes smoother.

I've been using my Lumis 950 XL for three weeks so far. I love it. However, there are some issues, first of all, lack of apps, and updates, some apps haven't been updated for over a year. If MS can provide more apps and updates I'm sure they will gain huge market shares from ios and android.

I had the 640xl for 2 months and sold it back, oh boy was that a ride, The phone is incredible, the battery lasted me 3 days, all the apps were there. I just wasn't feeling it, it lacked the finesse of other phones, it really feels like a PHONE not a smart phone.

I am using an iPhone 6s and Lumia 1520. Just love my Lumia 1520, but can't find good apps to ditch my iPhone. And, the few available apps make the experience even worse on the amazing windows OS. I love its UI but Microsoft has to do a lot of catch up. I had my hands on the Lumia 950 XL yesterday for half an hour at the MS store. The display is simply gorgeous. Camera is amazing. Hope developers write high quality and smooth apps for the OS.

+Pocketnow I have found that if you want to have the name number of tiles you have on the 950XL on the 950 itself, it is fairly easy to do and anyone can make this change. Go to Settings, then System, and finally Display. Reduce the slider involving the size of text and apps down to either 350% or 300%. Restart the phone and then go back to Settings, Personalization, and Start and toggle "Show more tiles." Your tiles will now be like the 950XL including the multi-task grid. Hopefully this will make things better for the 950 at least. I will be sharing this on the review of the 950XL for anyone who is interested there.

I love this phone. Software side. I'm not a fan of the new multitasking screen. I often try to swipe down an app to close it out but you have to drag really far down to ensure it's gone.I appreciate being able to move the keyboard around. Have been inconvenienced by it once though. You get numbers and can't move it back down.Loving glance mode again.Battery life right? I woke up to my phone being at 55% I was like, "wuuuut?" Really happy.Haven't received new build update though so that bothers me.The front facing camera delivers gorgeous images.I love this phone in white.The back does creek and that was really disappointing.Retina scanner has only not been good once. I find myself typing in the pin when my phone is laid down flat which doesn't bug me. I showed off retina. scanner to like 6 people.Baconit just got better along with other apps. Phone doesn't heat up like my Icon.Microsd of 64GB and I now have all my music that I could want. Will probably get more since I want to test out long videos and take hundreds of photos. The camera and screen sell you on the simplest of sceneries.This is a great phone no matter what the surface phone is. No buyers remorse here.

The actual phone and operating system looks awesome. The issue is that there aren't any good applications supported within the Windows phone. The keyboard is actually pretty awesome as well as the overall aesthetic of the device. They need to work on the device having better application support and then eventually they might have a decent phone.

I love WP. Loved my 930 when I had it, but the lack of apps (especially Google ones) is really making me glance more towards a 2016 iPhone. Apps are one of the most fundamental ways we interact with our phone, which is why WP is suffering in sales. It's a huge problem that they do not seem to be in all that much of a hurry to fix. Luckily for them, the surface line is saving them.

+Golden Boy I felt the same way. I love WP and the operating system is so smooth, doesn't slow down and just performs the way it should. I loved my HTC M8 for Windows but the lack of apps that I needed and the Ultra Pixel camera wasn't cutting it for me. So I purchased the newest LG V10 (my 1st android device) and I couldn't be happier!

I have to have an Android because it's the only OS that gives me access to the Apps I need. However the 950XL /Windows 10 system seems much improved and worth getting as a mobile partner for work with a W10 laptop.

If i had money to buy a phone in this price range i would definitely go for this phone, i have used a lower end windows phone before i loved it,currently using Moto G and with time it has slowed down got buggy with 5.1 update but my friends WP still works like a charm. and howsoever claims that WP don't have apps support well you should yourself use it before commenting. it has all the necessary apps n good games. i m done, hit like and move to next one

@ Micheal, you can actually enable the same "extra tile"- view with a little trick... they showed it on windowscentral. I think you just have to tweak the scaling-settings a bit (from 300% to 250% or something like that) on the 950. I actually did it on my 930 and I love it ;) ... Big fan of the wide tiles and now i can place 2 next to each other.

It would be great if you could describe what alternative apps are available for the most commonly used apps in android and iOs, and if possible if there are any distinctive differences in experience and/or frustrations. It would also be great if it comes from the user's perspective who may be used to these two operating systems. I understand that these more so relate to the OS itself and its advantages/issues, but talking about it still describes the overall experience that the user will have with this particular phone. Thanks!

Hello Michael I know this isn't about the lumia but one quick question, is that the Moto 360? only reason I'm holding out on buying one. Google hasn't updated RU-vid on windows mobile on forever and no social media. And the games I can find on Android are probably nowhere to be found on windows mobile. Maybe if the app selection gets much better I'll enjoy it. I really want to enjoy it, but the lack of apps is a deal breaker.

+Redey1290 you can forget about google apps on windows phone, there are plenty of better third party youtube apps thou, regarding social media, well you'd have to be more specific because there is at least a basic list of 20 social apps, mostly first party and also third party which are at times better or at least sufficient for everyday users

I completely agree!! Microsoft needs to get their game together since Windows 10 Mobile is NOT in beta. Since Microsoft is a software company they can and should iron out the bugs very quickly. Time will tell.

Please compare the 950 and 950 xl in a good camera test, I somehow felt you didn't do justice to the 950 in your review, don't get me wrong I love your reviews, it's just something i felt about that review in particular. Also test if there's a difference in the slow motion as the 810 should be capable of better/faster processing. Just my two cents, sorry for the bad structure of this comment I've been up all night and its 9:20 am back here in India hope you can take a look at those things.

1-can you compare the Microsoft apps (outlook, office...) on this phone with the ones on android phones? (my friends say they work better on IOS and Android than on windows phone). 2-also make a full review of the camera. 3-check the heat distribution while using the phone? 4- try windows hello while on the move (walking or doing sports...) 5- try to use a 200 GB (if you have one) SD card, and see if it work with phone (didn't work with my friend. thank you

I have the 950XL and I've always wondered if I should've saved money by settling for the 950. I could've gotten the 950 for $200 on AT&T (compared tot he $650 + tax for the 950XL). The family plan I'm on, my monthly fee doesn't change so I'm assuming that the whole upgrading charge is already built into it.

How is the 810 with regards to heat. If I remember correct the 950XL have watercooling? So do the 810 still overheat and down clock itself?

I got to play with lumia 950 in Microsoft store. I felt like the window 10software wasn't as snappy as the stock windows phone 8.1 in my lumia 730. The salesman said that the unit is a demo unit with a Product demo feature that keeps running in the background. Still I find the device feeling ordinary in hand Waiting for the price drop and how windows 10 is received in the market

+· KING · well do research beforehand, if you are a heavy user with very specific apps then the short answer is, no, forget it. but if not chances are that you'll have most apps or similar ones in windows phone, the app gap is a bitch, but this merge of OSes phone,tablet,pc will be beneficial for the market if people start noticing and make the jump forcing developers to see the business oportunities, only then the app gap will shorten, and android and ios will have to get their act together because market now has been stagnant and it is ridiculous watching every iteration of flagships laughably similar to previous generations milking people's money because of the lack of real competition.

I swear I'd buy every single Lumia phone if they just make some high quality apps and desktop apps on it! I have the nokia lumia 1020 it's literally a digital camera with a mp3 player I used to use it for navigation but thanks god Here maps is available on iPhone now.

+meals24u simple answer, much better. You can easily get a day out of the phone, even with its huge amazing screen which is much better than the iPhone and therefore, requires much more juice to power it. you can easily get a day, 2 if you're careful!
