I can see Microsoft focusing more on perfecting the Facebook's Horizon Workspace-like services and cater it to businesses and enterprises while Facebook focuses more on the social/entertainment side of things within the Metaverse.

Microsoft seems to be more focused on what can happen now, which I like. In contrast, Meta seems to focus on what *will* come in the future. For that reason, I prefer Microsoft's approach.

Remember Facebook Event was just a trailer that mostly CGI concept trailer of the unreleased Mixed Reality Hardware. But Microsoft is purely what the actual footage.

Microsoft looks to be several years ahead with working concepts. Facebook has a movie trailer.

I would love for this to be more accessible for folks who can’t move such as quadriplegics, ASL patients, etc. My dad was “quad” and lived 4 hours away from me but we would have loved to hang out in the metaverse together. That would have been such an amazing tool for him.

For me the Metaverse isnt as exciting as they make it seem to me. For me if you want to be in that type of world, you will still feel bound by your real world. For example the avatar flipping in space... she is literally sitting somewhere at home while that is happening. I dont know... Im not sold. If you cant 'feel' , 'smell' or 'taste' something in the metaverse... then its still very 2d and you are looking through a VR headset etc. Also.... why the massive push to get everyone into a 'game' themed world? Metaverse just reminds me of another social game really. I dont know... Too many thoughts in my head about this lol

Honestly, I wasn’t a believer in metaverse technology until I saw Microsoft’s take. At first it just seemed like Roblox on steroids. I think Microsoft is better suited to pull this off since they can easily tap into their hardware and software synergies. I use Teams literally everyday all day so it would be cool to have a more “real” experience where you can walk around and network somewhat naturally. Facebook created a big website.

it is funny because there is no commentary on this video, it is just a comparison. At first glance marks presentation seems more fun and future driven, but man microsoft knows how to be professional. It is a really good presentation.

This is scary… First it was Facebook that asked to identify people ´s faces in the pictures you posted, therefore, providing this info to governments freely. Now, to finish it, they want us to teach their AI to identify not only faces, but how you think, what makes you choose this over that or how you plan for the future by making the choices you make. Scary indeed.

Mark is like giving mere conceptual presentation while MS is presenting concepts with prototype..

I'd say Facebook's presentation feels more like a Ready Player One futuristic vision, while Microsoft feels a little more corporate and microsofty. I still hate Facebook though so whatever. Microsoft is just really bad at marketing to mainstream audiences.

Facebook's take on it is essentially to get you to enjoy "living" in a virtual world rather than actually going out and living in the real one. I feel sorry for anyone who can't see how this is an extreme form of escapism and all for Facebook's economic gain no less.

Metaverse sounds like a lot of data and machines. More money for the tech companies to create unnecessary stuff to keep people and industries to spend. Good job. I would rather walk my real dog in the real park while eating a real ice cream than spending time in this meta.

Microsoft is more targeted towards business and professional use whilst Facebook is more targeted towards the general public is what I take from this :)

I feel there is value in the Metaverse I guess in the corporate space. If it matures where it's simple, and offers something more than what conferencing can do. I really don't feel like jumping into the metaverse in a personal context. I'm not sure if we need more technology pervading our personal lives, it just doesn't seem naturally healthy.

I think Microsoft will start trying to market to businesses and then slowly transfer to gaming like the computer did.

This just makes me uncomfortable and anxious.. i know they gonna force like something we can't live without but i hope everyone just ignores it

Facebook's Metaverse seems way cooler, but I have a feeling that businesses will always choose Microsoft. A cool idea would be, big companies to cooperate and create one metaverse.

Reject the term “Metaverse” to reject this change, use the word “Nexus” as a name for digital universes

MS looks more beneficial, adaptable when rolled out in near future. Mark meta just seems bits and pieces of sci-fi for now.

I really don't understand how this is supposed to be seen a a revolutionary thing. Going in a 3d space with a custom avatar to meet others sound like Second Life... which came out in 2003 hardly a new concept if you ask me.

Microsoft and Facebook both have impressive plans but I think NFT and games are THE entry points into the metaverse. NfT projects like Starlight NFT are proving this. What do you guys think?

One is like a few hundred bucks (quest), the other is like 4 5 thousand bucks......one for the average very day user, the other for corporates. Totally different user base.

Meta is a full blown metaverse company. Microsoft is just one of the players. Hence the different in as production quality.

Not too sure metaverse is efficient for work. Google chat and messaging apps still seem far superior because you can chat with multiple individuals separately or together in groups without having to worry about visually or audibly being seen or heard. Whereas in metaverse it's like physically working in a office all over again just with pretty visuals.

Just another way for these companies like Facebook and Microsoft to sell your information imagine putting on the glasses walking to work and you just see a flower field of ads

Mark's entire presentation was actually in the Metaverse.

Until both systems offer realistic graphics like in AAA games this is basically VR chat. In my opinion the tech isn’t there yet. How are they going to link my room to the Metaverse? Don’t get me wrong it would be an amazing way for me to get a realistic view of a project out of my country, a tour of somewhere I’m not, etc. I just don’t think moving my Phone/VR Set around to scan all regions of my house everyday will be as great. Plus you have to consider the lengths that the realistic/heavy cloud data of your Metaverse home has to go to through in order to go to and from servers almost having to always display the accurate depiction of your house. Downloading or Rendering 3D designs are already slow on the cloud imagine your whole house having to load once you turn on your VR Set. TLDR Great Idea but doesn’t have the tech to support it yet
