This guy is a real one for even listing Netscape, most people wouldn’t help at all or not want to hear it when that's what support is even for. I know this guy was just playing around and that it's ridiculous that someone would be using a pre-nt windows version now. He still wanted to help him out
nah they will still point you in the right direction, stuff that is known to have worked in the past, but you are on your own. microsoft wont write anything new for products that have reached end of life. Unless its a major thing. They did an update for NT4, that bit the dust 20 years ago, a couple of years ago.
Yeah so tech support for any popular apparatus that youd thibk would be very selective in who they employ are actually all trash. I once spoke to Amazon support and the guy there could barely speak english, all his replies were slow. Amazon man, frickin amazon
David is an absolute goat, he very well knew that Microsoft ended support for older windows versions, and even though he didn’t know anything about windows 3.1, he still helped him. I’ve never seen any other tech support willing to help someone like that. ❤
I am not surprised the bloke helped, Microsoft don't write anything new for it, after its reached end of life, unless its major. that's about it. They will still point you in the right direction, like their support tech did, but you are on your own, if it works or fails. They wont just say its not supported that's it, and upgrade it. They know that MSDOS etc is still a round, and they will do their best to help, as its one of their products, and it could be running some sort of tricky expensive software, that wont run on anything 9x or NT based due to stability, or its dos based.

what a chad David is, he's advised to promote Windows 11 to people using Windows 8.1 or older but instead he notifies the customer that Windows 3.1 is out of support and still tries to help the customer browse the internet, what a chad.
If he really cared he'd have told him that if he connects to the internet with that old browser and OS he'll get infected by viruses in 5 miliseconds, but why would he know that honestly
Fun Fact: Deutsche Bahn (Germanys National Train Carrier) recently posted a Job Offer for an IT Job with the requirement to be proficient in using Windows 3.11 & MS DOS because our older Highspeed Trains built by Siemens Mobility still use Windows 3.11 as well as MS DOS. Siemens also still pushes Software & Security Updates for these older trains running these old versions as stated in their contract with DB. More specifically, the software of these older trains is called "SIBAS" or "Siemens Bahn Automatisierungssystem" or "Siemens Train Automation System" in English. They're not AI generated. Customer Support agents almost always have pre-made template reponses ready, and often copy-paste troubleshooting steps from an internal knowledge base
If i were to work there i would have just dropped the professional act and went: "that is archaic technology that is pretty much extinct, i don't think i can do much bud but i will still try because it sounds fun"
This is kinda funny to watch lol. One thing that suprised me is that David said that he will still try his best to help with an operating system that runs in MS DOS.
because he has set different keyboard language in the system and that dictionary does not contain words he types. If a word is not found in dictionary it's marked as red underline. That's how spell check works.

just bought an Atari mega st (a Motorola 68000 system circa 1986). Opened it up and it has a 386 mod co processor soldered in. I built a 68030 tf 536 accelerator a scsi hard drive etc. I'm trying to get windows 95 running now.. Added a side cart for network wireless and got it running windows and Mosaic. I now have a machine from 1986 surfing the Internet.
