I have a UTX85 DE that I paid for in full from BladeHQ it was just shy of $400 and it's ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I have a background in Machining and Metallurgy and I tore the knife down to inspect it and as I said in my first line, it is perfect in every way. I have never seen a Microtech with a gap between the chassis. And I honestly can't believe Microtech allowed a knife to go out the door like this. But hey if they did it absolutely needs to be called out. I made a video when I got my Andre DeVilliers Butcher Mid Tech and it was not up to par and I actually got attacked by Andre and I suspect some of his employees on my comments section. But shortly after he redesigned the lock bar on the knife to address what I covered in the video. Thanks for the vid!

I recently bought a new Microtech from DLT Trading and couldn’t retract it without using two hands. The dealer said it was normal and refunded my money less shipping. I’d never buy another one of their junky knives.

I don’t blame you. I owned a real Halo a few years ago and paid over $500 bucks. It used to have problems as well and was always messing up on its firing system. I got in a Clone Halo 6 yesterday from Wish for less than $30 and it’s perfect. In fact it hasn’t misfired once and I’ve fired it consistently since I got it. It’s tight with no gap’s either. Just like you said, it’s all because of the Quality Control. All I can say to Microtech is,, please do something about it!!!! Thanks for sharing your feedback. Mark in Ky. 👌😎

That tan knife is not a real Microtech. The Halo 6 has a little sliding safety built into button.

What was the reason why you didn’t get a refund for the defective knife to begin with? Maybe next time you don’t settle for a defective product to begin with and it would save a lot of hassle from back and forth with Microtech.

Most dealers won’t refund guns/knives once you walk out the door. However, most manufacturers of guns/knives have good lifetime warranties. A few of them are bad at warranty service though and that’s the real problem.

This is the reason why I always buy the clone versions. There really isn't much of a difference unless it requires advanced technology. Knives don't require advanced technology to make except for the blade that requires a knowledge of metallurgy.

You really think the goobs at MT are "metallurgists?" Steel is purchased already forged in whatever combination is available. Commercial knives are NOT made the way they are on Forged in Fire, and if you pay attention you'll see those "one-off" knives require extensive final finishing versus commercial knives which much adhere to a price point. For this reason knife makers start with strips of steel alloy which are then cut to profile using a water jet or electric discharge machine run by computer that kicks out blades to exactly dimensions. The billet handles are made the same way - 7075 in the case of top drawer, 6061 for lesser applications and they are clamped into a CDC mill, and in minutes pop out fully machined. If the design and dimensions are right, the final knife will be right. MT is overcharging because they know their target market. The average internet commando who imagines himself some kind of special operator pays big money because they've bought into the fantasy. The Chinese versions of MT products may use less exotic steel for the blades but it's steel, and more than capable of killing a human. They may even used Zinc castings for handles, but Zinc alloy isn't "weak" by any means - just look under the hood of your car to find lots of such parts. Zinc alloy tends to be heavier than aluminum with a higher compression strength and equal tensile strength though slightly less stiffness, though NONE of those properties can be tested by the end consumer. A Chinese Halo V is good enough to sit around snapping all day until one gets tired of playing with it....same as a USA made version which NOBODY is carrying around because it cost too much to risk.

Thank you for an excellent video proving that MT products are over-priced and under-quality. From the video the "clone" is clearly assembled better than the USA model and MT ought to be ashamed of themselves that a $750 knife EVER has to be sent back! Talk about a bunch of arrogant A-holes! If you received a defective knife from a Chinese "store" they'd have sent you an RMA to return it for a new one! It's a shame that a $45 Halo V has better customer support from the factory 6,000 miles away than does the $750 Halo V! IF I was ever going to piss away $750 on a knife (which I never will), having watched so many videos created by disappointed customers has ensured I won't. A $45 Halo V will work just fine for me and beyond that, there are countless other brands and types of knives that cost $20 and work perfectly fine as a carry blade. MT's motto seems to be taken from the words of P.T. Barnum, "A fool and his money are soon parted."
