Mictlan | The Aztec Underworld 

This Aztec underworld sounds like it would be a hell of a video game. All those quests and boss levels.

In one of the Aztec creation tales, one of the gods has to travel into mictlan and gather up all the bones of the previous world's dead to try again to create life on the earth, and i believe has to fight some massive creature

This would be a great game premise

But, "they're not punishing you" he said, "they're freeing your soul". So the way he see's it, if you're frightened of dying and-and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But, if you've made your peace then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth. It's just a matter of how you look at it, that's all. So don't worry, okay.

This realm was also home to yours truly, along with the rest of the bat gods. In some stories, the great and deadly winds within Mictlán were created by the flapping of our wings. The Mayan counterpart was Xibalba and mine was Camazotz.

I had a dream, I fell in love with a girl.. We went on a hike, the terrain was Rockey made of granite and shale and in every crevasse there was crystals and mineral formations ... We found a cave went inside then I was teleported to another place, the place was built out of ancient Aztec type of structures.... The ground was covered in bones of people and monsters .... After walking in this ancient building I realised I was all alone... Then I came across other people, they said they were stuck there forever... I tried to leave back where the entrance was but it was like a gate with symbols all over and a giant beast in the shadows was blocking the path and snake like people were in a hole trying to pull me into the hole in the ground if I tried crossing though the door ... I ran back to where the people were and asked one why I was there, she said I was in hell for being evil. I asked her "isn't everyone evil?" And she replied "only If we chose to be" ... I was scared and tried to find weapons to help slay the beast so I can escape ... Then I saw a ghost of the girl I loved and then I couldn't find her ... I found goat horns and elk horns with handles and they had symbols all over them .. I ran toward the beast with them willing to fight . Then I woke up covered in sweat and terrified/sad ... I never knew about mictlan before this dream.

I first heard about this deity from Maya and the Three.

That place where you have to walk for miles barefoot through obsidian and flint flakes. That's my level. I will own it. As a knapper who also doesn't like to wear shoes I can assure you I was made for that place and I've been preparing for it my whole life..

The second part of the journey, "Tepeme Monamictlan," can actually be found on the Earth's surface. It is located in east-central California, but on the surface, it is known as "Yosemite Valley." 😄 j/k, Mythology Unleashed. I liked the use of the image of the famous valley, it does have that vibe described of the Aztec Underground's second level. As well, in reality, Yosemite Valley is a very dangerous place to traverse if not done with great awareness of your surroundings and given respect for the environment you are in. Plus, Yosemite Valley has its abundant share of unexplainable phenomenon occurrences and mysterious disappearances of visitors to the U.S. National Park that is Yosemite.

Sounds cooler than christianity's concept and slightly more logical. What NDE experiencers commonly report is being in a dark but peaceful void with an omnipotent presence. Personally i believe you enter the void no different than you were when you died so theres no escaping your current point in your souls journey, this is what i speculate hell being for some people
