I appreciate that feeling....It makes me feel like I'm at my elderly neighbor's house as a kid watching game shows and/or being on "the peoplemover" at Disneyland.
@InfiniteMushroom Couldn't agree with you, more. The 1950s was a time of prosperity and enrichment for humankind, and there's nothing racist about saying that it was the white man that had brought these great times about. The truth is rarely ever spoken. It often seems that the simplicity of a clean, working society of class is lost to people, to the point where we've all given up on trying to bring them back simply because most have forgotten. We are all animals, yes, but only in the 1950s had we truly achieved the greatness and purity that humankind deserves, now, more than ever. I say that we all think, far far too much, and we all need to get together and find the core of happiness as we had found in the times after WW2. I am only 18, and I understand. We could always spread word to those who're uninformed, and maybe bring times of purity back? Possibly too far gone, eh? Let me know if I'm off-topic, or just blabbering. As for now, we should just enjoy the music from a long lost era. :)
Anyone who likes this type music will also like 50s and 60s Exotica (Faux Polynesian Hawaiian music), 60s and early 70s Bossa Nova, 60s - 70s Easy listening, 60's mainstream jazz, The Bob Crew Generation greatest hits CD, James Last, Bert Kaempfert, Walter Wanderley, Ray Conniff, 60s Herb Alpert, 60s Sergio Mendez with Route 66, 60s Cal Tjader. Much great music from yesteryear waiting to rediscovered....
Thank you for that list! Been adding more music like this to my Spotify. I grew up in the 60’s-70’s, and don’t listen to anything else but this type of music. Don’t forget Percy Faith and Henri Mancini (sp). 💜
Remember 50 years ago when they said "In the future"... We'd all work from home using computers. We'd all talk on videophones. And there would be no need to wait in line at the bank drive-through because we'd all have virtual money on plastic cards? Well, it was true! ...But I still miss 1970's Sears.
We had a Woolworth's in old downtown Granite City.. we always called it the dime store.. not sure why.... It was such a neat store... with the dinner.. and counter. I always loved eating there as a kid, in the 70's and 80's. Things started changing in the mid 80's. I think in the late 80's it closed... not long after they tore it down.. today its a parking lot. Across the street was the old Washington Theater, as a kid I remember it being so big and grand on the inside. I vaguely remember seeing the original Superman, Jaws, Grease, and probably other early movies there... sadly it too closed in the early 80's.. and buy the late 80's was torn down and turned into a bus station. I wish I had a time machine and I could go back and visit those place one more time
They'd bring you the malt in a glass plus the metal cup from the mixer for what didn't fit in the glass. I'd always get a chocolate malt and an order of fries at the counter. My other favorite thing as a kid was the candy kiosk at Sears, where I would get a little bag of chocolate stars. At the time I always thought this kind of music was annoying. Still do. 🙃
And the lounge in the photo was on a jumbo jet, back when airline fares were regulated, and much higher than they are now. Airlines couldn't compete on price, so they had to compete on quality of service: the most comfortable seats, best meals, most attentive staff, onboard lounges, most frequent service. When fares were deregulated, it started a race to the bottom, as airlines cut their fares, but made up for it by shrinking seats (though people today are much bigger), and charging for even the most basic things, like baggage, carry-ons, and seat selection. Result: widespread air-rage, and drunken misbehaviour from people who should never have been allowed to board in their condition.
Is that what this is? For some odd reason, there was a missing link every time I heard this music in my adult life. Now Stephen Hogan makes sense of it all. I probably was a baby and my parents did shop at Sears Montgomery Ward all the time. It all makes sense now. I've recalled a piece of music from my early babyhood. thanks, Stephen Hogan! this music is smoke'n.
Malls were a great place in the 70s...Beautiful wimmens everywhere, new products, new styles to see...I remember being amazed at those crappy $70.00 digital watches back in the late 70s...
Back then we had way less on the outside to show the world...... Today we have all that bling, click click....ding Dong here is your order... But what really matters in life......can we be happy and appreciate the little things ? Like this music ? The things that really matters you never have to buy ❤️🙏
I was trying to find that kinda music I'd hear in 60s/70s movies shows that was like smooth jazz with trumpet and violin. This was exactly what I was looking for. Perfect for relaxing.
Search for "Muzak". If you don't find what you want there, try "Seeburg" Seeburg has 3 types of music. Basic, for shopping and stuff like that, Mood, which would play in higher class places, and Industrial, which would be played in the workplace, and normally have a higher tempo.
Pour a drink, smoke a fine cigar and grab a nice girl, without a thought of who will take away those pleasures. The world we knew. Nowadays, it's impossible to find that scene. Or is it?
This also reminds me of the background music on The Price Is Right from the mid seventies when they describe the prizes. Tell us about the prize Johnny..."A new avocado green colored stove from Tappan"
TPIR musical cues are the only reason I watched that show as a kid. Here's a link to them all ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TROFXZvM8sI.html
This Beautiful music has gotten me through this dark 2020. I think the Cold War era folks were onto something piping this artificial happiness everywhere you went.....to take the edge off. I say we try it again.
In the 1960's we faced death from the hydrogen bomb. In the 2020's we face death from a micro-organism. The more things change, the more they stay the same. We made it till now without a nuclear war. We will get through Covid-19, too, if we are smart. And this music will help.

I truly like this music. I want to use it at my wedding, but people laugh at me... my mother says it sounds psychedelic , my partner is a musician he doesn't mind it, but he is sure the guests won't like it and I think the guests will think I am crazy... you know what I think? I think they simply aren't sophisticated enough to see the beauty of this music...
A better time in many ways. Our folks in the late 60's and the 1970's were enjoying the present and optimistic regarding the future. Sadly, that has been so lost today. I remember this music so well. Most large communities had a "beautiful music" FM radio station that played this music 24/7. Listen to this video for just 10 minutes, and you'll feel better.
In 1960 the world population was only 3 billion people and in the USA the population was only 180 million people, today the world is overpopulated and the scarcity of resources and jobs means that there is a lot of aggression and hatred between people.
@@juancarlos-ct5cf I'm skeptical about the overpopulation thing. every couple we know has between 0 and 2 children, so how could the population be doubling? that makes no sense.
Brings to mind that scene from the movie, Goodfellas, where they're walking into the tiki lounge and the narrators introducing all the various mafiosa, including Johnny Two-Times. Like a Mouskateer Roll Call for gangsters.
I’m 60 I remember going to the local department store. The women were so well dressed with the white gloves & furs.big pearl necklaces they knew each other & the associates that work there.always had the one women that bathed with jean Nate 😊.people were polite respectful back then.I was 10 at the time I heard these 2 women talking .the one women said oh jean your buying that dress? She answered back Gordon won’t mind he’s flying to Boston to make a good deal on a contract.they both giggled I was thinking wow growing up is so nice.damn if I knew then what I know now.lmao
Oh yeah, bass was often the major player in this type of lounge music, just as much integral as all the other instruments. Cocktail lounge music really had some really great substance.
For those curious, these are the specific tracks in this video that were used on the Peoplemover at Disneyland: 9:15 "March" 12:49 "May" 39:25 "Decisions" 49:16 "Industry in Motion #1" 1:09:01 "It's Sprinkling" 1:14:33 '"It's Windy" 1:27:42 "Neutral Springs #2" 1:32:08 "Neutral Springs #5" 1:35:33 "Window Shopping"
Was Decisions used on the DL Peoplemover? I don't have it in the source tracks I received many years ago which are also in my Peoplemover video on my page. All of the others ones, absolutely.
Great combination of hotel lobby, elevator and cocktail lounge music from the late 60's thru mid-70's; - nothing like it! Flowing, relaxing and smooth . . .
I play this when driving my convertible. Once, at traffic lights, I turned it up and someone threw a milkshake at me. Although it ruined the upholstery, I think they wanted to be friends. The lights went green before I could smile and do a little jiggly dance in my seat, which I was grateful for, as things started to get clammy quite quickly.
I can NOT love this enough! Music like this saved me during the pandemic. I was in the middle of a house reno, art deco glamour, but this music has made me transition into late 60's early 70's, and my house LOVES it! Tx!
Back then we had less..... Now we have the whole world in our hands.... But things like this, and that time period was just fine..... No worries.... Just fine...
If you can locate it in the AM band and reception is clear, CFMB AM 1280 out of Montreal plays "musak" (as Iearn't this type of music is called) between 12AM and 5AM weekdays. I wish there was a radio station that played it regularly during daylight hours. AM580 CKLW (Windsor) still plays hits of the 50's/60's/70's regularly and still sounds like the AM days if you were not around in the era (like myself). I clearly remember this music as a child in the 80's being played at being played at three locations in my youth. Metro Detroit Airport, rest stops along the interstates and a hotel Lobby in Niagara Falls, Thank you for posting and Happy listening!
Muzak was a company that provided this type of music programming to businesses. Went under, but their name has become a generic label for this material.
@@charlielong262 Joe was not as great a reader as Carol. He was usually hired for his innovative creativity. Carol on the other hand, could read ‘fly shit’, as they say. Note for note. I knew them both back in the day…
I TOTALLY know that exact place! The visual image i mean. Its the coach lounge they had on American Airlines 747s in the early 70s. Yes, that right, they used to have lounges in 2nd class back in the day. Vividly remember the strange illuminated display case in back of the bar, with carefully mounted sea shells. It was in the very back of the plane. Very cool feature. Our family made the trip in June of 1970. The 747 "Jumbo Jet" had just come out, with lots of hype and fanfare. I was SUPER stoked to be riding in a 747. JFK to SFO, later went to LA where i got to go to Disneyland. Flew back via TWA, also a 747. Such an epic trip.
This photo and the music reminds me of the glorious days of flying on those huge monster Jets that had sitting rooms and bars like above. It was a glorious and exciting time to live. You always dressed your best, even as a kid, you wore a suit if you were a guy. There was absolutely NO STRESS anywhere you went. Music and people were relaxed and seemed happy.
@@hudsony777 Nostalgia. It's a powerful drug. Like, the amount of domestic abuse in the 70s was off the charts. And if you weren't white, good luck trying to even walk through a K-Mart without triggering mass paranoia. Not saying that there weren't some nice things about the 70s -- I remember playing hide and seek all summer with the neighborhood kids until very, very late...the idea that we could get hurt or worse never even crossed our minds, or our parents. But as a society, we are much, much, MUCH better now than we were back then.
It is. This is what Boeing (was it Boeing?) wanted to launch as the "more-than-first-class" lounge-in-the-sky. Not affordable by today's standards. It illustrates the positive thinking that was prevalent these days...
I was actually reading through these comments to find out where the picture with the waves out the window was taken. Anyone know if it was just a set for a picture or an actual location at that time?
@@wonderlandalice9238 To me, it looks like a cruise ship that's out in the middle of the ocean. The chairs everybody is sitting in are very common common on ships, even to this day.
When I listen to this kind of music I wish I could been lived in those fantastic golden days in 60's and 70's, when clothing fashion was stunning and the music awesome. I always keep cursing, that I was born way too late and because of that I never been able to experience those awesome years.
You notice everyone in the pictures wearing suits and the ladies are wearing dresses except for that one guy with a turtleneck and corduroys maybe. You dressed up you fixed your hair you respected yourself. Nowadays all these young ladies just pulling their hair up in a bun on top of their head and wearing tight fittings pajama pants that have an image of jeans on them or those thin black leotards that show every curve of their genitalia and rear end which is disgusting. It's as if people just want to be nasty and make it okay to be that way. Gentleman and ladies saying " Thank you " and the reply was either " You're very welcome" or " It was my pleasure ". If you said " Excuse me " the reply would be " Oh pardon me " or " Oh no, Excuse me " or " Oh sorry, am I in your way !? ". Nowadays the replies of " No problem " and " You're good " lack the manners of those days. Let's just be more polite and be thoughtful of others.
The theme called November transports me to the time of the jetset, it comes to mind flying on airlines like Varig, United, Luftansa, Air Frande KLM to name a few, but imagining that wonderful time very vividly.😊✈
Hey, this is beautiful music even when you lose a bet and have to stand in an elevator for 6 hours playing it as people ride up and down looking at you as though you're insane.
Takes me back to sitting in either a Steak & Ale Restaurant or walking through one of the old now defunct department stores of yesterday . Glad I was there to live it on the first go around ! An absolute joy to listen to the again !
This music takes me back to a time when things were just simpler . I remember going to the doctor's and this music would be playing, or, going to the mall and just walking around with my parents. I love how it allows me to appreciate what my parents did for myself and sister.
Thanks fro sharing, First track 'Action People #9'' is a quintessential example of 'TV Music', circa 1971, love the chord changes, melody, groove and instrumentation. A total vibe and mood, really like time traveling to 50 years ago.
For many of you, like me: the term for nostalgia for an era that someone wasn't brought up in is often referred to as "anemoia", which was coined by John Koenig in his Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, and it refers to the feeling of nostalgia for a time you've never experienced. Perhaps we are anemoiacs.
Love the sound of that Rhodes piano! I would love to be able to go back in time and experience this again--the times, the sounds, the colors, the fashions, the styles. Although I could do without the stench of smoke everywhere. But other than that.
Stepford Wives music, all designed to get you in the mood to spend, spend, spend. The shops knew what they were doing and it worked. I love it to bits!
Penn-Prest polyester denim jeans from the Dad & Lad collection at Penneys; Mother doesn't want to iron anymore cuz she got Liberated went back to school and taking EST classes. So confusing...
