Mid-flight Oil Pressure Maxed Out!

My first flight as a qualified pilot didn't go according to plan. Shortly after takeoff and departing the airfield's circuit, the oil pressure needle went sky high. So I immediately head back to the airfield, mentally preparing for an emergency / forced landing if the engine quits on me.
Ultimately it was a false alarm, with the oil pressure gauge reading incorrectly, perhaps a poor earth connection or just a faulty gauge.
Hope you enjoyed my first flight as a qualified pilot, first urgent action needed, and also my first RU-vid video. There's more flying adventures to come soon, so make sure to like this video if you do, and subscribe to come fly with me in the next one.

i had this issue on a night student solo flight luckily was not completely at red zone but way to high for comfort being in the middle of farm land very little lighted areas. thankfully oil pressure returned to green. Its no fun staring at black planning where to land should there be an engine failure! great job mate!

Guessing it was an issue with oil circulation? Not seen that one myself, usually it's low oil pressure and high oil temp that is a bad sign. Well handled and good call to return.

I believe it was a faulty gauge or wiring issue in the end, but I'm not completely sure 😅 thanks for the watch and kind words 🙌

Hi Rob, great video, I'll be in touch via email about maybe getting something on the club website about this, I think it's a useful experience to share! Thanks

Good video Rob, out of interest is that a pair of GoPros you're using? if so what model. I'm gussing the video stabilisation almost makes it look like they are gimbal mounted especially when the content is sped up. Just curious.

@@RobHolmes8 Yeah - fairplay. I asked because, whilst thinking about it safely on the ground, I agree it was the right situation to. But if I was in your shoes, I may well have just turned around telling myself it was nothing! Helps to learn from though. If similar happens to me in future (fingers crossed not!) I think I'm more likely to make the call.

why did you use 1 stage of flap, when you were airborne before the numbers? not really required.

@@RobHolmes8 I flew a C42 from Perranporth for a while, and even when operating from the tarmac we always took off with the first stage of flap because that's what the POH recommends.
