This is great. Thanks for taking the time to share it. The hydration point is really important. I sweat a lot year round. The hydration today really pays off three days from now. It is an endless cycle. My sleep is the weakest point of my health and fitness. I get 4.5 hours at most a night. I have to pad up. One it gives me more confidence to skate harder, two it allows me to skate tomorrow, three it keeps me in the clear with work. Getting hurt while padded up is much more acceptable than getting hurt with out wearing proper protection. I tried to get my kids interested in 2006. It didn't work but it put a bug in me that I couldn't shake and 11 years later I decided I was going to skate. That was it for me. All in at 41 and now 45 it is the best thing I have done for myself as adult. Stay rad Sir.

Thank you for checking out the video and for your kind words. I was hoping that this would help out some of the dads out there with the long game. I've seen so many dads come and go; especially around 2014 when the Bones Brigade Autobiography came out. Around that time, many dads picked up skateboarding, but it's just a handful that still remain. I have also taken the advice of making the time to skateboard that you shared on the A. Shetler podcast. It's helped me to internalize and think of the priority(ies) that I need to rank and decide whether they are time wasters or focus and finish to go skate.

@@skating4satori672 appreciate all that you and your family put into this channel. Priorities equal resources Sir. Time is the greatest resource and must be spent wisely. Off the subject question. Has your son tried a Surfskate? I think he would be awesome on one.

I’m 51 ! Keep going brother. I love just skating the bowls that they have nowadays. In the 4 ft I don’t wear pads but in the bigger stuff I do for sure. I wear wrist guards all the time and I wear Elbow pads all the time.

I think the not drinking part also translates to pretty much easier maintaining a lower total body weight, which is a _huge_ deal when you're getting older and stamina might not be what it used to be. I'm a very skinny dude, almost 38 now, and have no problems when it comes to stamina, but I see sooo many older skaters struggle with what is really just them being a bit (or a lot) overweight. 8:35 The big thing also to realise is how vegetarian or vegan foods are _much_ harder to digest, so that's in no way healthier at all. Having a good variety of foods is key. Not eating fish or meat is a big mistake a lot of people make when it comes to thinking they are eating healthy. And yeah, the other thing is definitely eating only moderate quantities. I also pretty much do not eat candy or snacks. 22:00 I agree so strongly with the equipment recommendations!! Very underrated stuff. I hate it when people in their 20s or 30s try to recommend not to wear helmets. There's literally no reason to assume wearing a helmet is ever a bad thing. I've already had some slams where my helmet kept my head safe several times. It's really just the smart thing to do. Keep in mind there are also different ratings for helmets that are supposed to withstand multiple impacts, versus just dealing well with one single heavy impact and breaking on impact. In other words, don't ride with a damaged / broken helmet, as it won't be nearly as good as a new one. So yeah, the rating / certification is important. Long story short, excellent video!!

Thanks for checking out the video and the feedback! Sometimes I'm not sure if people agree with the advice or if it's helping them.

This was a great video, but I have to admit that I was distracted by all those sweet Hosoi boards in that background ha ha

Thanks for checking out the video and the Hosoi collection! They were virtually impossible to find in the early 2000s, so I have been collecting some of the various color ways over the past few years.

Go big or go home and don't drink Gatorade!!! JK🤣 I am 45, have been sk8ing since the mid 80ies and I am all about daily yoga, meditation, exercise, plant based nutrients and being happy. I don't smoke anything, no drugs (including caffeine) and practice semen retention. My point being is that I can sk8 for several hours without a break surpassing all ages on my BMX and board at the sk8parks. I learned to slow everything down, have fun and allow my body to tell me when to step it up a bit. I have sk8ed at parks looking at a trick I want to do for 2 years before even trying it. Take your time and have fun. Enjoy this journey🧘🏻‍♂️🤙😎

Excellent advice and it was cool to hear you go to skate in Hawaii, it's where I grew up skating all over Oahu.
