My hairline is not receding. Its merely making a tactical retreat to a more defensible position.

It's not so much that your hairline is receding - more a case of an advancing neck.

As I said in another response, only the greatest mountains have timberlines. I knew a man who liked to describe his high forehead and bald head as a 'three-story intellect with a skylight'. He has a successful medical career that didn't make this claim seem pompous.

The theory I like best is that hair starts slipping off the top of your head and starts to grow out of your ears and nostrils since it's easier for it to come out from a lower position... if that's the case, I wonder what the tops of your toes look like! 😁

As a woman, I can't agree enough with the trimming of brows, nose and ears! I really don't mind if a man is bald or greying, but grooming is soooo important. Thanks for mentioning that.

This video really strikes a chord. Turning fifty was a real turning point. I accepted that my hair is getting grayer and i will never have the sculpted body I want. I get teased about wearing tuck-in shirts at neighborhood get-togethers but I just feel dumpy in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Sometimes I wear a tie even when I work from home. Others think I am crazy but being well-dressed makes me feel better about myself and I have no plans to stop. Thanks for another quality video.

I respectfully disagree with you on the sculpted body part. Unless you have a disability, you can totally achieve the body you want. You will have to be more careful about what you eat than when you were younger, and you might have to workout more intensely, but you can do it. I guess it depends on what you consider “sculpted”. 50 is the new 40, haven’t you heard?
@12ealDealOfficial
@12ealDealOfficial 3 года назад
I also disagree on the sculpted body part, but I think dressing nice at home is a trend that should have never gone away. Even if all we typically do is accept a package at the door, there have been instances I've been unexpectedly visited by city employees, neighbors, internet service technicians, land surveyors, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc, and wished I had presented myself more professionally. Conversely, I've visited my own neighbors spontaneously and come to the conclusion that most people in my area live like animals.

Or an obvious toupee. My best friend in high school married a dark haired man; then years later, I ran into her at a restaurant and I couldn't figure out who the gorgeous man was that she was with. I thought she must have divorced her first husband and now she was with someone else, but no, her husband's hair had just turned gray. His undereye shadows were no longer obvious and his skin tone looked much brighter. Gray hair can make some men look much more attractive because it's kinder on their skin tone than dark hair.

There's the familiarity and comfort aspect. When you get "our" age (almost 56), you dress for comfort - especially May-September - in the deep south. Which means loose t-shirt, shorts, and crocs. Workplace is jeans/khakis with golf shirt and boots. It's almost unbearable for me to wear a long sleeve shirt now, let alone a coat.

I'm 65 so I'm way older than "middle aged". What got me through "middle aged" - young adulthood for that matter and continues today are motorcycles....European motorcycles to be specific. Nortons, Beezas, Beemers, Guzzis etc. The best fashion accessories for me today are a pair of well built leathers, matched with boots, helmet and gloves and all accessorize correctly with my bright red Ducati. Also own one in yellow and white which too accessorize with my ensemble without having to think much about it. I highly recommend this anti aging strategy! Especially for all you "middle aged" kids out there.

Thinning hair and receding hairline is FAR from the worst thing that can happen to a man. My father-in-law (late-50s) insists on maintaining an 80's hair band mullet (now entirely gray) despite the fact that the bands have been defunct for decades and their members are dying at a significant rate. Actually, I'm 50, and I never feared losing my hair. I come from a family of bald men - my father, my grandfather, my uncle, my brother, all started losing their hair pretty young, so I never gave it too much thought, you can't win over genetics I guess. So when my hair started thinning, I went for a fully shaved head and a beard (which I keep about 6-8 mm long). I think it's a great look for men, and it can even make you look younger - in my case, even if some white hair started slowly creeping upon my beard these days, people often think I'm in my early 40s instead of being 50.

There seems to be this false believe that to dress well you have to have alot of money; this is simply not true. Like the old saying goes, knowledge is power; all you need is the knowledge of how to dress, and where to purchase quality clothing for a reasonable price. I buy most of my clothes from eBay, or other second hand stores, for a fraction of the price of new. And I have learned a ton about dressing, and menswear, from Gentleman's Gazette.

My tip is don't waste money on new clothes. I've shopped at charity shops since my 20s and have a room full of Paul Smith, moschino, super dry, all saints etc which collectively cost me a fraction of just a new pair of loaks. Better still, after losing 2 stone and finding everything way too big I can afford to redonate the lot and start again! It's all fun

As a result, I’m healthy, mentally and physically, strong, Have Lot’s of energy. Instead of managing an expensive wardrobe that hides who you are, why not manage your health and maintain a healthy mind and body? If you do that, a middle - old age man can wear anything from sport to sophisticated clothing, and look well and good in anything. Yes, you can. Being unwell, and out of shape makes wearing clothing the challenge. To look good, you don’t need money, clothes, or a tailor. You need to manage your health and body.

They're a little too modern for Downton Abbey, oh by about 20-30 years give or take. But honestly just dress however makes you feel comfortable- whether that's a 3 piece tweed or sweats and a hoodie, and whatever "most people" think is irrelevant if you're comfortable in it. Those who matter don't care and those who care don't matter.

Some of those "clunky" slip ons actually look fine if you are dressing casually; Like jeans and a t-shirt. Yes, some men in their 40's and 50's still have the physique to pull off the old faded jeans and t-shirt thing.. Sometimes you can dress simply, and it still looks attractive- as opposed to going for the "classic" look everytime. Most men are not a clothes horse like you.. haha

As a female, I can tell you that a man of a certain age having that "Macklemore" haircut or other very trendy hairstyles is very tiresome to see. Classic haircuts on a gentleman of any age is much more comfortable and pleasant to see. Also- the clunky comfort shoes have to go! I believe we can all find comfortable and good looking real shoes to wear! Trainers are for training.

I know how you feel. I work in a factory where a T-shirt under a uniform shirt paired with work pants and steel-toed shoes is my "business attire" twelve hours a day. This, coupled with the fact that I'm in Texas where it's summer for eight months out of the year, makes it difficult to justify spending a few hundred dollars or more on a dressy wardrobe which might get worn only a handful of times.

This is an older post but I went through this myself. I'm an industrial painter but when the occasion calls or I just feel like dressing up a bit I dress in a button up shirt, chino pants, and dress boots. A nice hat, belt, and a watch finish it off. This is after years of trying to dress up but always feeling uncomfortable because it just wasn't me. But dressing a bit more casual is more comfortable and I look nice... not out of place. And in this day and age I always standout has well dressed and get compliments. Just start with a nice shirt, pants, and shoes. Don't buy a suit if you can help it.

There is so much good advice here! I am now 68, but still very active. I still feel "young" at heart. We went to a family get together yesterday and my wife insisted I wear Jeans (and a polo style shirt) After much cajoling, I did.. Someone posted pics online that night and I look like a fool! I wanted to wear a pair of casual gray slacks.. and a nicer shirt. Lesson learned. Around home, and working on projects, I'm a GRUB. Cargo pants and T shirts.. But? Still have most of my hair but it's mostly grey now..
@calebfuller4713

I think it was the polo shirt... Jeans and a polo was what my dad wore in the 80s/early 90s. A plain T-shirt and a pair of modern jeans (not that stone-wash pair from 1987) and you're good to go. "Slacks" and you're getting into stuff MY grandfather would have worn... Grandmother too for that matter. At least be able to call them trousers!
