It is not in America’s national security interest to get entangled in Israel’s war in Lebanon, nor in a broader conflict against Iran. Netanyahu is refusing a negotiated cease fire agreement endorsed by the U.S., the EU, the UK and other regional countries and accepted by Hamas. The end to the Gaza war will end the fighting with Hezbollah as well. Netanyahu is intent on pursuing his goals militarily rather than through negotiation. Part of his calculus is his desire to remain in power and avoid jail, much like Trump. The U.S. this time should limit its role in shooting down missiles directed toward Israel but provide the weapons and intelligence Israel needs to do so itself. The U.S. needs to end this situation of the tail wagging the dog. Netanyahu must bear the responsibility for his refusal to accept a negotiated ceasefire which can then lead to a longer term solution. Here in the U.S., no one elected or would elect Netanyahu to make our nation’s decisions on whether to go to war. So if Netanyahu and his right wing Israeli government wants their wider war, let their country fight it alone.

*Wonder why it took Israel took so long to try to protect itself. I also recognize that Israel has its own crimes, like stealing Palestinian territory.*
